Chapter 20: where it all starts

just like I thought, I had to go to the Poseidon cabin and the people started avoiding me.

except for clarisse, because we would still wrestle and have a fun time-fighting.

I had the same dream I did when I was here, Poseidon and Zeus fighting and Kronos talking again.

man after this I'm going to want a slacker life. I woke up to grover knocking on my door.

"Mr. D wants to see you," he said as I opened the door.

"give me five minutes," I said as I closed my door.

I packed up the essentials, added some spells to make my backpack have extra space, and left it in my cabin.

I made my way to the big house, ignoring all the stares I was receiving.

"well well, our little celebrity," Mr. D said as I entered the room.

"Well, well, our reformed alcoholic," I said, sitting next to Chiron.

the look on his face showed that no one had talked back to him.

"now then will you give me the quest already, I'm trying to go home and live a slacker life," I said

now everyone was stunned at what I was saying, Chiron, grover, Mr. D, and Annabeth just stood there stunned.

"ah yes... well this is unexpected. you shall consult the Oracle in the attic if you accept the quest," Chiron said.

I got up from my seat and headed to the Oracle and closed the attic door behind me.

"what is my destiny," I asked looking at it

(this is my own prophecy.)

"the guardian must return, to save the broken world.

the maiden holds the key, to return from an endless sleep.

forever wandering, forever fighting,

the lone hero walks the path of darkness

to save or raze, darkness shows the path.

fires champion across pantheon, to Egypt he shall go.

for evil day awaits."

I sighed thinking about this prophecy and how it was going to impact my slacker life. I can guess most of it but as they said, prophecies can have double meanings.

I went downstairs and said the original prophecy and then it came time to choose my partner in the quest.

"grover you in," I asked as I look over at him.

he looked nervous before looking at me again and this time he was determined.

"I can't let my friend go to the underworld alone huh," he said with a shaky voice.

"pack up we leave in 10," I said getting out of my chair.

"about the third p-," Chiron began to say.

"is not needed, I have a general idea of the enemies I am going to face, and have made preparations to kill them. no need to worry," I said leaving the door.

I grabbed my backpack and made my way toward the hearth and sat next to Hestia.

"I will be gone for a while," I said to her.

"do not worry, I will watch over your quest, and do well to remember that family is everyone's greatest ally," she said as she straightened my hair.

"I will make you proud, aunt Hestia," I said as I took a bow.

I slung my backpack over my shoulder and met grover and Chiron that were waiting on the hill.

Chiron was holding "my" weapon and made me return the weapon I stole from him.

we got into the van and it dropped us off at the bus station and we bought two tickets.

"We should have brought another Person Percy," grover said smelling the air.

we sat down in the front seat and I kept riptide in my hands and waited for the furies to board the bus.

when they did I controlled the mist and attacked them only leaving Ms. Dodds and I whispered to her.

"tell hades to meet me at St. Louis Arch," I whispered and decapitated her.

"Are you alright Percy," grover said hurrying over.

"Don't worry about it," I said as I stopped the bus.

everyone got off and I made sure not to forget my bag this time. grover and I finally came to the spot I was hoping for.

Aunty Em's Garden Gnome Emporium.

I was going to get something to eat and then cure Medusa and we can head on our merry way.

"I smell monsters, Percy," grover said nervously.

"well this monster is a semi-good one, depends on who sees her," I said knocking on the door.

the door opened and out came the woman I was looking for help.

I put my hand on her head and immediately removed the petty little curse of Athena's.

"There now we have a proper conversation without that petty little curse getting in our way," I said as we took a seat at the table.

"now then Medusa, may we please have something to eat while we talk," I asked her.

"Medusa," grover yelled as he backed up in fear.

"don't worry, I removed the curse that was placed on her, I think she suffered enough for something she didn't have control over," I said as I felt a godly energy appear near me.

"oh what joy, Athena's here," I said looking out the window.
