"No, I'm interested. But the only thing I need to do first is meet this Giovanni. I also plan to start my journey soon, and don't want to have to miss out on it. If I get along with Giovanni, I'll just take the position of a cadre if that's fine. Like a hidden ace or something; I'm not good with building up an entire organization." Ors went over the facts he knew thus far about this world and its timeline.
Things seemed to work the same way as the anime, but the timeline was before then by about ten to fifteen years, as Giovanni was not yet a gym leader and Team Rocket hadn't really started yet.
Also, in the anime, Team Rocket was founded by Giovanni's mother, meaning that that was something else "off" about this world.
"That's fine, I'm sure you'll be going to the Viridian City Gym at some point soon since its one of the weaker gyms and you have a water type, just ask for Cryptia at the Viridian Pokemon Center. She's Giovanni's sister and can bring you to him just use the words 'Blast Off' when you meet him in a sentence and he'll know what to do."
After giving a thumbs up and answering with a, "Got it." Ors started to walk to the teleporter in the corner of the cave.
"One other thing. Try to be discreet about it. Cryptia doesn't know about Team Rocket, she's just a doctor there."
And with that final warning, Ors found himself back inside the Fennel Pokemon Center.
Quite a few of the over 200 graduates had already left on their journeys, though some were intending to stay behind and train first.
Thus, when Ors walked into Rena's room, he woke her up, saying, "We're going to need to get going the second you feel able to. Everyone else has a one or two day advantage on us."
The doctors had already removed all of the equipment that had been healing her, and she was in a large tub of water now, passed out. Honestly, her body was already healed for the most part. It was her mind that took the biggest hit.
She hadn't ever felt much pain in her tenure as nobility, thus getting an artery sliced and a hole blown open in her side dealt heavy emotional wounds.
Ors was the one who had spent time in the prior two days trying to heal it, resulting in the bond between the two growing closer by miles.
Rena nearly completely relied on him at this point and developed a bit of separation anxiety. This was shown in that whenever the trainer left her in the mindscape to do something, she inadvertently transmitted extreme fear.
He still hadn't told her. It was better to wait until she was well and truly better.
The one bright side of the situation was that rather than becoming afraid of battles, Rena now yearned for them as a method to increase strength, so that she never had to feel that helpless again.
After a brief discussion, the duo decided to head to Ors' house that night and leave the next morning. They checked out from the hospital despite Nurse Joy's reservations and went back home.
Trusting in her advice as a doctor, though, both decided they wouldn't let Rena train until she felt completely better.
Just as they went to leave, Ors heard the sound of the teleporter. He walked past Vatira, and the two nodded to each other.
Aboard the bus on the road back home, he felt his pocket buzz. Smartphones were extremely rare in this world. Well, real smartphones. The "phones" of this world had three main functions: calling/messaging, a pokedex, and showing bank statements.
"True smartphones" had all of the capabilities of a phone from Earth with the single exception: no World Wide Web. There was sort of internet, but because smartphones were relegated to the rich, it was mostly just forum posts and social media for the uppermost class.
One of the most useful parts of the smartphone was its map and high speed messaging. Most phones took quite a while to send a message, and bits of data could be lost along the way because of pokemon that ate it.
This didn't happen with rich phones because the network was taken care of by a Porygon and Rotom brigade.
The elite were just as elite in this world as the last, but at least this one was slightly more meritocratic, as even rich kids would lose out to the poor as long as the poor worked harder and was lucky enough to get a good pokemon. Ok, it was still pretty unfair.
Checking the spiffy new phone, he saw a message.
— I changed your phone number to this phone already and set up an account for your Team Rocket activities in the Blastoff app on your home screen. I'll communicate using this whenever I need to reach you. Good luck starting your journey!
With a quick thanks as a reply, Ors started running back home, Rena in his pocket in a pokeball.
That night, the family decided to have a going away party. They baked a large cake and made a salad with tons of vegetables for Rena. That night, after everyone had gone to bed except for Ors and Selene, she turned to him and smiled.
Her finger shining, she stabbed her throat with her finger, just enough to draw blood. "M-Mom? What the fuck was that?!"
"This is a prerecorded message I made before I became mute that I sealed into my throat." Her voice was serene. All Ors could think of was how much a pity it was that her voice had been stolen.
"I know you have questions, but Nemea will be able to answer them when she gets here. For now, let's get started. You have turned eighteen by the time I am playing this..." Well, he skipped grades, so he wasn't.
Selene blushed a bit at her incorrect assumption. "...So that means you have a pokemon. You will also be leaving tomorrow. There's so much you don't know, and I can't tell you, so I'll tell you want I can. First, warnings. Watch out for any pokemon that has a red stripe on the bottom of its foot. If you see it, that means the pokemon carries the genes of an Abomination and could become one given a trigger."
'Well that's good to know. Wait, didn't that Ekans I saw have a red stripe near the bottom of its underbelly? Nah, couldn't be right.' Just in case, however, Ors sent a quick message warning Vatira.
—Hey, Vatira, just so you know, there might be an abomination in that lake. I'm not sure, I just caught it out of the corner of my eye.
He decided to lie about how he knew the information until he could trust Vatira comletely.
"Next warning, never go to Kalos, no matter what you do. It will taint your soul with a certain kind of energy that destroys your soul over time the more you absorb."
The answer obviously had to do with mega evolution, but what specifically was unkown to Ors,
"Third and finally, drinking alcohol decreases your energy storage, so don't do that. Maybe once or twice at important parties. Now for the last advice. Most people don't focus on training defense, as they never think about assassination. It may not happen, but... It could, so train that. You should also see grandpa in the morning. He has something for you."
And with that, her throat healed and silence returned. "Thanks, mom. When is Nemea supposed to get here?"
*She should arrive in about five minutes. She was late off work today.* Was the signed response.
Mother and son sat in silence for exactly that length of time beforre two shapes appeared in the shadowy distance.

After sixteen years of living here, Ors leaned back into the handmade porch swing, feeling the rough wood. He stared out into the forest, murky with its swirling shapes. He truly felt as if he was appreciating it for the first time. On of the shapes nearly teleported up to the front porch. It was a girl not much older than Ors.
"Finally home. I've been waiting to come back here ever since the League sent me to Cabernet Point. Ors, Mom. How've you guys been in the past couple of weeks?" This was Ors' older sister. Her personality was similar to Lada, but without the mischievousness of the latter.
Ors grinned wildly. "Let's go! Finally home, Nim! Just in time for me to leave though..."
"What am I, chopped liver?" A voice asked farther back.
"No way, Leo?!" Asked Ors incredulously. This dear sibling hadn't been back in two years, on a mission in Mount Silver. The outskirts, of course. Only elite four and up could brave somewhere like Mount Silver.
Leo had the playfulness Lada did, but with none of the energy. "How's it going, guys? Can I see your pokemon?"
Both laughed. "Always the same with you, O." Nemea answered.
However, Leo shifted awkwardly. "Um, don't be too shocked when you see Luxio. He's... a little different."
And suddenly there were seven pokemon on the ground in front of the porch. Rena from Ors and three pokemon from each of the others. That meant Nemea had caught a new pokemon.
First was a Luxray. It had gold stripes on its body and red skin instead of blue. A Kanto variant of the Shinx line, using fire instead of electricity. This was an absolute beast; Leo's starter and ace.
Species: Luxray (Kanto Variant)
Type: Fire
Potential: Green
Ability: Flash Fire
Level: 46
Moves: ???
Ors theorized that this pokemon came from the union of an Arcanine and Luxray or Growlithe and Luxio, resulting in strange genetic shenanigans.
There was also a level 39 Magmar and a level 37 Ponyta. "There's one more I caught in Mount Silver, my first pokemon not native to Kanto. Go." And a strange, bright snail landed on the ground.
Species: Slugma
Type: Fire
Potential: Blue
Ability: Drought
Level: 23
Learned Moves: Clear Smog (B), Yawn, AncientPower (B)
Egg Moves: Heat Crash (B), Sunny Day (M), Stone Edge (B)
Hidden Moves: Tar Shot (Locked)
"Holy shit..." Whispered Ors to himself. "Where did you find this guy?"
"You've always been good at telling how good pokemon are at a glance. I actually hatched him from an egg at green potential and spent a ton of money on getting him to blue potential. He could end up really getting overpowered if I can get him to Purple Talent and it upgrades his ability."
'I can only imagine if the thing got desolate land as an ability...' Weather affecting abilities worked in a strange manner in this world. Abilities such as drought and snow warning didn't automatically whip up a blizzard whenever the pokemon took a breathe, instead, they gave a boost to the pokemon's move mastery and made it far more powerful in almost every way in that weather.
Supposedly, Primordial Groudon used a sunny day in the past, and records from the library state that it resulted in the deaths of crops for hundreds of miles, dried any remotely nearby humans into shriveled corpses, and left the region uninhabitable for decades.
Nobody had seen it since, but it still was worshipped like a god. It had to still be around somewhere because half breeds would show up every couple of centuries.
Next was his sister's pokemon. A Parasect level 32, a Gloom at level 26, and a level 23 Skiploom. The first two were potential yellow and the Skiploom at green.
Most trainers at her level had a small scanner that could test the potential mostly. However, it could only do so three times before being recharged, meaning she would only use it if the pokemon showed signs of having high potential.
Ors gained a huge advantage here, only using a minute amount of energy with each Inspection, and being able to use it on something he only saw out of the corner of his eyes. The scanners required at least 5 minutes per scan, depending on the size and level of the pokemon.
"No fair!" She whined at Leo. "I wanted to get another green pokemon!"
Leo smirked. "Too bad. Hey, introduce us to your pokemon next, Ortie."
"Her name is Rena, we already bonded." Cringed Ors at the nickname he didn't prefer.
His mom finally signed her way into the conversation. "Are you planning to specialize in water type? On fire, one grass, one fire?"
"No. I'll just catch whatever fits my team best, regardless of type." He had finally made his decision. It would be more difficult, but that's what he had spent so much time at the pokemon school for, after all.
