Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Old phone

"Move your fucking ass already!"

Gorn was startled by the sudden yell. Lifting his chin he was greeted by a look full of poison.

"I have some things to do tonight, so work faster you shit!"

The voice was so annoying that Gorn wanted to smash Socar's face into dust. However, he remained silent and worked faster. Not saying anything was the best option he could choose at the moment. Socar was older than him and more experienced. His way of thinking was poor, and his character foul, but nothing could be done since his strength was way above Gorn's.

'How long do I have to endure this?!'

Gorn was trying his best not to snap. Changing jobs was possible, but the available options were rather few and even worse.
Gorn helped Socar dismantle a huge bear. Sometimes, time flew very slowly while at work. It was a test of mental fortitude to get through those hard times.

The awaited moment finally arrived. It was time to go home. Packing his stuff as quickly as possible Gorn took a bus and headed home. In half an hour he reached his home. A simple rented apartment with one medium-sized room, a small kitchen, and a bathroom. Throwing his bag to a corner Gorn crashed into the bed. He was so tired that he almost fell asleep on the spot.

Mustering all his willpower Gorn got up. Rage flew through his veins. Grabbing the nearest chair he smashed it against the wall.

"Work and sleep! Work and sleep!!! Fuck it! My life amounts only to this?!"

After a few minutes, tiredness took over again, but this time he refused to go to sleep.
Searching through his stuff he found an old phone.

"What is this?"

Taking the phone Gorn turned it on. After what seemed like a long time the phone finally gave signs of working.

"What is this?"

The phone had nothing on it except an application.

"The forest? Is this a game? Ha, perfect!"

As a former gamer, Gorn was very excited by his new discovery.

"RPG? Sweet!"

Main quest: Deep inside the forest lies a special blue gem. Obtain the gem!

"The game's character already has my name? I don't remember registering any names. Weird..."

Being tired Gorn did not pay attention to the small details. The game was rather simple, his main character was extremely weak, barely being able to kill a wild dog that was outside the forest. The insane level of difficulty stimulated Gorn's gamer's senses.
After a long grinding process, a small change finally arrived.

White orb of power: Upon activating, it grants the user one status point. Does not work if the stat is above 10.
Activating the orb Gorn distributed the point to endurance.

With those words, he fell asleep. In the blink of an eye, it was already morning. Stopping the alarm Gorn got to his feet and prepared to go to work.

Doing the same thing over and over again had its benefits as well. As always, nothing happened during the day. Since Gorn was eager to get home and play the game more, time went by slower than usual.

Yet again, the most awaited moment of the day arrived. Taking the bus, reaching his room, and throwing the backpack to the side, Gorn sat on the remaining healthy chair.

"Is it due to my excitement or how come I'm not so tired anymore?"

Putting everything on a good night's rest, Gorn grabbed the phone and started to play the game yet again. Sadly, this time he could not make any progress, nor did he find any orbs of power.

After a few more days Gorn finally managed to obtain another orb of power. Those orbs were mandatory if he wanted to get deeper inside the forest. This time he put the point into strength.

One point was not enough to make too big of a change so the grinding process on the outskirts of the forest continued.
After two weeks of grinding Gorn finally managed to bring one stat to 10.

Sitting in front of a mirror Gorn looked at his body. His frail body had now a fair amount of lean muscle on it. The difference was enormous, and even a fool could notice that something happened. Two weeks ago he weighed around sixty kilograms, and now he weighed seventy kilograms. The strange thing was that the ten kilograms increase in weight came without any changes to his eating habits or physical activities.

Looking at the old phone that was on the table Gorn felt chills going down his spine.

"Is it possible? No way...right?!"

The only different thing he did was play that game. Suddenly a strange idea went through his head.

"Status!" said Gorn out loud.
