Chapter 2: Chapter 2: A new path

It was very hard to accept the new reality, but facts were facts. Lying on the floor Gorn calmed himself down, or at least he tried to do that.
His heart was still beating at a fast pace, refusing to slow down.

'I need to make sure that I'm not hallucinating or something.'

The method to do that was very easy, but it took some time. He wanted to quit his job on the spot and play that game non-stop. Unfortunately, he could not afford to do that just yet. Sleeping on the streets was not an appealing option at the moment.

'Two more weeks should be plenty of time to bring one more stat to level ten."

Having a clear goal, and brimming with excitement Gorn got to work. Time flew very slowly, making two weeks feel like a couple of months.

With his endurance at ten, Gorn could make do with less sleep, and his recovery was twice as fast as before. Now he wasn't sleepy after coming from work and could spend extra time doing something else before going back to his routine.

"This is unbelievable!"

The new change brought endless questions and possibilities.

"Can I bring my stats higher than ten? What if I obtain that blue gem and finish the game? Who made this phone?"

These were only a small number of questions that passed through his mind at the moment.
Grabbing the phone Gorn started to play the game. Wild dogs plagued the outskirts while at the entrance of the forest were different types of dogs. These looked more muscular and fierce. After a long time, Gorn managed to kill one of them, but nothing new happened. The process lasted so long because it was very hard to do everything right while using such a small phone.

"If only I had a bigger screen..."

While speaking these words, Gorn's face suddenly lit up. An idea went through his head; an idea he was very eager to test out. Rummaging through his old stuff Gorn tried to find something.

"Where did I put it? I hope I didn't lose it."

After a few tens of minutes, Gorn finally found what he was looking for.

"Perfect!"

He was now holding in his hands a gaming laptop. It was outdated but clearly way better than the old phone. After a few more minutes he also found a cable, with which he was planning to connect the phone to the laptop.

First, he cleaned the laptop using a fine cloth and some special solution he had at hand then he checked if it was working. Pressing the start button Gorn watched with eagerness in his eyes.

"Wonderful!"

Everything was working surprisingly well. A flash of nostalgia went through his eyes.

"Unfortunately I could not enjoy it to the fullest..."

The laptop was bought a few years back when he first started working. It took him a fair amount of time to manage to gather money for buying something decent for gaming. Alas, being most of the time at work, and returning dead tired did not allow him to spend much time playing or doing much with his laptop.

Grabbing the phone he connected the cable to it and then connected the other end to the laptop. Holding his breath Gorn waited for some reaction.

After a few minutes everything turned black, and on the screen appeared the same icon as the one inside the phone.
Clicking on the application the game started. After a quick look, Gorn jumped from his seat while almost shouting.

"Fuck yea!"

His voice was extremely loud, to the displeasure of his neighbors.
The simple-looking game was the same as before, but the graphics changed tremendously. It was like changing from one hundred pixels to one thousand. In addition, the colors, and the sound changed as well. Everything was of better quality.
Carefully putting the laptop on the table Gorn sat on the chair while saying out-loud:

"Let the gaming begin!"

With the help of a mouse, a keyboard, a bigger screen, and overall a way better setup, Gorn's gameplay went through a major improvement.

Wild dog!

The wind brought forward the growl of a menacing-looking animal. As long as he got too close the creature attacked without hesitation.
Gorn went back to the starting area, to be able to make himself familiar with the new commands, and figure everything out before challenging a stronger opponent.

Time flew by quickly while Gorn was immersed in gaming, greatly enjoying himself. After nine straight hours of gaming, Gorn turned everything off and jumped in his bed, it was now five in the morning. All the concentration used during the gaming session drained him of all his energy. His efforts were, however, not in vain, for he managed to find another white orb of power.

"Status!"

With an extra point into agility, Gorn closed his eyes and went to sleep with a smile on his face.

After an unknown amount of time, his normal phone rang out, waking him from his sweet dreams. Looking at the screen he saw Socar's name on it. Glimpsing at the right corner he saw that it was way past twelve o'clock. Smiling, Gorn pressed on the decline option.
