Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Beating the shit out of the examiner

As far as a hunter didn't commit any serious crimes, the police would seldom do more than give a warning, especially if the hunter had a high status. The percentage of people who awakened a power was rather small worldwide, thus their importance was not small. Of course, it also depended on the capability of the person.

With some impatience, Gorn advanced.

'Where is that place?'

After what seemed to be a chore, he finally found his destination.

Eagle Guild Testing Area

The characters were big and shiny, and very hard to go unnoticed.

'If only this location was somewhere easier to access.'

The building was situated in a more secluded area. While examining the building, Gorn saw a bus stop a few meters besides him.

'Why didn't I think about that?'

Unfortunately, it was too late for regret. Giving everyone a quick glance Gorn entered the building. The first thing he saw was a long hallway. Unlike his expectations, the place was quite crowded with people. Everyone went towards one of the free tables, paid the tax, received a ticket then proceeded towards another room.

Gorn did the same. The process was so ordinary that no one even greeted him.

On his ticket was written a number and a letter. Looking around briefly Gorn saw a door with the number 1A written on top. Entering that room, he was finally greeted by someone.

"Welcome to Eagle's Guild testing area. Give me your ticket, and wait patiently until we start."

The man's smile was very forced, but Gorn didn't care. Giving away his ticket he walked towards another area while glancing at the nearby people. After a few moments, he saw a familiar face. The other person also seemed to look toward him.

Smiling, Gorn headed that way: "Hello Lora, the world sure is small right?"

Lora smiled awkwardly: "Indeed. It didn't even cross my mind that we will go to the same place."

Brown long hair, brown eyes, oval face with normal features, she seemed above average in terms of looks. Even though her height was small, she had an attractive body. For some reason, Gorn reckoned that that trait was inherited and not achieved.

Lora's eyes were shining brightly, exuding eagerness and anticipation. Her demeanor was very different from the last time they met.

"This should be an important turning point in our life," said Gorn casually, more to himself.

Lora smiled widely, her face almost shining: "Yes, I've been waiting for this moment for some time already."

"You look rather young, how old are you if you don't mind me asking?"

She didn't hesitate at all: "I'm twenty-three years old."

Gorn was a little taken aback by the innocence in her eyes.

"Well, you have the whole future ahead of yourself."

Right at this point, the staff spoke loudly, almost shouting.

"It's time to start the test. Be quiet, form a line and come towards me. State the nature of your ability then demonstrate!" The man's demeanor demanded respect and obedience.

A line was quickly formed.

"I have an attack ability."

A punching machine appeared from the floor not that far away.

"Hit it with everything you got."

The man closed his eyes and focused. In a few moments, a ball of flame appeared on his palm. The flame became bigger and bigger. When it stopped growing, the man opened his eyes, aimed, and shot at the machine.
The numbers quickly went up and stopped at two thousand sharp.

"Fail, next!"

The man was on the verge of crying: "There should be some kind of problem with that machine right?"

As a response, he received a good beating.

"Stop, stop. I'll leave, just stop!"

The examiner seemed to want to make an example out of him and stopped only after through-out beating the crap out of the poor individual.

"We don't give a shit about your feelings! If I say you fail, then scram or suffer the same fate."

Half the people from the crowd swallowed their saliva. Seeing the disdain in the examiner's eyes, Gorn's image of Eagle Guild turned negative on the spot.

"Fail!"
"Fail!"
"Fail!"

In a short time, it was Lora's turn. She still had the same look in her eyes as before. Walking with confidence she spoke: "I have a support ability."

In the next moment, another device appeared from the floor.

"Use your power on that machine."

As instructed, she did just that. The machine glowed slightly and then showed the number seventy-five.

"What garbage, fail!"

Lora's face changed drastically. The innocent look in her eyes turned savage.

"Are you fucking blind you ugly piece of shit?!!" retorted Lora at the examiner.

Everyone felt a cold chill flow down their spine hearing her say those words.

'She is dead...dead.'

Without any surprise, the instructor started to give her a good beating. Being in a world of pain, something she was not used to, Lora started to panic and scream for help while running toward other participants.

The others evaded her like the plague. When despair almost took over, she saw Gorn, and her eyes shined with hope. Getting behind him, she grabbed his arm while speaking rapidly.

"You said you like me right?! Please help me and I will become your girlfriend, please!"

Her face was almost entirely swollen by this point, but her fear could still be seen. Looking at the examiner who was coming his way, Gorn felt sick to his stomach.

The examiner sent a punch toward Gorn's face without any hesitation. People who had powers related to enhancing their physique were even smaller, so the examiner was like the apex predator inside that room.

There were people who could also attack, like the first person who had a fireball ability, however, that took time and concentration to activate, unlike Gorn's energy bullet.

The punch was easily avoided by Gorn. Furthermore, a counter was sent flying right away, fully connecting with the opponent's face.
Gorn's punch was made using his full power. The examiner's nose broke instantly, and his front teeth flew through the air non-gallantly.

A one-hit K.O.

Total silence. Gorn lifted the instructor by its hair and slapped him awake.

"Wake up, today is your turn!"

That day was the first time Gorn saw how badly his physical power could damage another human being that was not on the same level as him. Not knowing to fully control his power Gorn almost beat the examiner to death.

By this point, only Lora remained by his side. The others ran away for some time already.
