Chapter 1: Prologue: To Prison With You!

“Please help us!” Nope. “Our world is in danger.” I can’t hear you. “The Kingdom of Farkrose begs of you!” Yea, I am just going to plug my ears and pretend I can’t hear anything. I have seen this trope before! The world is in danger, and I must defeat the demon king! I have also seen the anti trope, but I am not going to bend to the whims of the people in this world.

My name is Saori, and up until a little bit ago I was lazily enjoying a tv dinner in my room while playing an MMO that everyone has heard of. You haven’t heard of it? You need to not live under a rock. My eyes went white, and now I am in this situation. The king. The kingdom, they all want me to slay some demon lord. Yadda yadda. This is where I will put my foot down. Right at the beginning.

“I refuse!” The gaudily dressed king was cut off mid way through his speech, and he was bewildered as he looked down at me. “Dear hero? What was that you said? It sounded like you said you refused.” I nodded my head. This king needed to clean out his ears. I had literally yelled that out in this grand echoing throne room. “You heard me! I refuse!”

“Just please lis-” He was about to continue, but I needed to be firm here. “No ifs ands or buts I refuse. I am not a citizen of this kingdom, and I don’t care about a demon lord. I would rather get back to my tv dinner and video games.”

“Teevee? Video games? Listen hero-” His expression changed to one filled with anger as his veins started popping out. Before he had an aneurysm, I was going to make sure that my position was stated. “You will not convince me of anything. Just go summon some other hero. I don’t give a shit quite frankly, so can you send me home?” Arguing with me would get him knowhere, and I think he sensed it. His expression became a smirk. “Very well then, Guards take her away!” 

Just like that I became a prisoner in a fantasy world. Look, they didn’t even give me a lawyer or anything. It was straight to the prison cell for me. They told me I would be here until I learned my place. What is that supposed to mean? Wasn’t I the hero? Wasn’t I allowed to choose my own destiny? Why couldn’t these bastards just send me home? I will get back at that stupid king! On that day, I vowed that I would get back at everyone in this kingdom. But actually prison life isn’t so bad, and I get access to books because the princess takes pity on me. Wait, maybe this will be the ideal prison life?
