Chapter 4: CHAPTER 4 / An island disappears

Shadow Twins Island, headquarters of the Black Ring cooperation and Black Ring cooperation armed forces… it was dark. Not a single soul could be seen. Everyone had gone back to their homes to seek shelter of the storm.

Exactly at midnight, the storm hit the island, wrapping itself around.

[Steve’s POV]

“Shit!” I was angry at myself for failing again at 570 points. I’ve been playing flappy bird for a half an hour now. I looked at the ceiling. The raindrops were hitting the windows of my apartment.

My phone vibrated as I got a message from Mia. “Look out of the window” ‘What does she want from me?’ But as I had nothing better to do anyway, I decided to just go with it. I walked out of my bedroom and into the living room, which had the biggest windows.

It was dark outside. A few cars were parked, and the street lanterns were turned off. I picked up my phone, wanting to ask Mia what she expected me to see, as all the cars outside started to blink like crazy.

I looked outside. Thanks to the light, I was able to see better now. ‘I don’t get it. Why are they all…’. Realization struck me. I gulped. ‘Light the lanterns are turned off.’ I slowly looked up at the swarm of small glowing lights.

‘What are these?’ I walked closer to the window. “SHIT!” One of the lights came out of the sky and flew directly at me like an angry bullet. I jumped to the side, but that stupid thing hit me right in the chest, throwing my back against the wall. I blacked out just a few seconds later.

[No one’s POV]

Thousands of these blue glowing, flying orbs spread all over the island, hitting everyone with no exception. Not even Animals were spared. After half an hour, the entire island had been practically “paralyzed”.

One hour later, the storm hit the island.

[White house]

“We need to do something!” The president of banged his fist on the desk. “We can’t have these idiots sell their weapons to our allies! Else, they may decide to completely stop buying our weapons!”

The room was quiet as nobody had any idea how to deal with the situation. It was normal for private companies to produce weapons and sell them, and although they was always some state control involved in these companies, none of them had ever managed to get in a position rivaling the United States in weapon production.

“Why can’t we just sanction them?” The president asked, angry. “Mr. president… the Black Ring cooperation isn’t importing anything from America except for software, which is the only thing we still have to influence them a little bit. But as far as I know as soon as we stop selling them the software, they’ll start to buy it from China or produce their own which would be…”

The doors were nearly kicked open as a soldier came running inside. He gave commander a picture of the ocean. “It’s just water…” He said as he put the picture back on the desk. The soldier, still heavily breathing, said: “That’s a picture of Shadow Twin’s Island from 20 minutes ago.

The soldier collapsed but was ignored. “How can this be?” “How can an entire island disappear?” The president grinned. “That’s exactly what we need”
