"Don't tease yer kid brother too much, or else he'll leave ya in the dust. When he gets married, he won't even pay ya a visit! Yer got such good kid brother who listens. Mine are always fightin’ n’ don't even visit me. Treat 'im well, ya hear?"

"Yes, yes, I'll treat my brother well," she chuckled.

“Say, where yer from? Yer not from these parts, right?”

“It’s a complicated story, but no, we’re not around these parts.”

Hearing her meek response, the owner looked at them. No adults accompanied them, and they were two lone siblings who looked to be traveling. With the tragedies from the demons, he could only guess what had happened and sympathy garnered within him.

“Here,” Noah placed a long sword on the countertop.

“Oh, yer both siblings for a reason. Yer both got good eyes picking out weapons!” The owner said. “It’ll be a total of 50 silver coins.”

System 404: [That pretty cheap for both weapons.]

“What about his?” Yulia asked.

“I told ya that I would give a discount. Ya don’t need to pay for it.”

System 404: [It must’ve been because of that sob story.]

‘It’s definitely that sob story.’

“Are you sure? You said you’d give a discount, not a buy one get one free, boss,” Yulia asked again.

“Ah, just take it. It’s not like this one time goin’ make my store go bankrupt, ya know.”

Yulia chuckled and thanked him for his generosity. Following suit, Noah also thanked him. She paid 50 silver coins and said, “I’ll definitely stop by again, boss.”

“Sure thing! Come by again!”

Before leaving, Yulia equipped her weapon by her waist beneath her cloak and advised Noah to do the same. The owner nodded his head, seeing that Yulia was not new at this. It’s easy to stand out and get robbed in even broad daylight if one expose their belongings, especially expensive ones.

“Make sure to follow yer sister closely, kid! She knows more than ya, so always listen to ‘er!” The owner shouted at Noah before they left.

Once they were out and walking about, Yulia kept stifling her laughter. Behind her, Noah didn’t say a thing. However, by constantly reminding herself that she was the ‘older sister,’ she calmed down bit by bit.

“Okay, okay, enough. I’m going to the palace now. Need anything else?” She asked him.

“Nothing else,” he responded.

With one hand on the reins, she grabbed his hand, leading him through the crowd with their horses. Along the way, she spent a few more coins to fill their stomachs. Only when they were no longer in crowded areas did she stopped holding his hand and got onto her horse.

System 404: [The path is pretty straightforward. Just follow the path, and within an hour, you should reach the palace.]

After an hour, they arrived at the palace gates. Stopped by guards, they got off their horses, stating their reason for coming.

“I’m a mage,” Yulia said and then turned to Noah. “And he’s the hero.”

Noah took off his glove, showing the guard the mark on his hand. The guard was a bit skeptical, rubbing the mark if it would disappear. Then he said, “I’ll report this to my superior and be right back.”

After a few minutes, they were guided inside. Their horses were handled by someone else who led them to a stable. The maid led them to a luxurious waiting room and told them that someone will be with them soon. A few minutes passed before someone knocked on the door and opened it.

“I heard that the hero arrived with a mage companion.”

The deep voice belonged to a man wearing simple religious robes. His long hair was tied back into a neat ponytail, and he looked to be in his mid-thirties. She probed at his identity.

‘Ezekiel, a high priest. What a befitting name.’

“I’m Ezekiel, a high priest at the Light temple. If you don’t mind, may I check the legitimacy of that mark?” He asked Noah.

Noah didn’t answer and simply drew his hand out to him. After testing with some holy magic, Ezekiel gasped and thanked god that the hero had finally arrived. Then he turned to Yulia and said, “And you must be his sister who happens to be a mage.”

“Actually, no. We’re just traveling together because our destination was the same,” Yulia denied. Unlike before, this could lead to unnecessary complications. She was here to find the foreign male lead. If she did anything wrong, it would only fall to Noah’s shoulder for having such incompetent ‘sister.’ So, it was best to cut things cleanly here.

“Ah,” Ezekiel quickly changed the topic. “My apologies, miss. Can I test your magic strength?”

“Of course.”

He had called for a maid to bring in the testing sphere. Once brought in, he explained, “All you have to do is place your hand on it and pour in your magic.”

System 404 quickly warned her: [Don’t pour in too much, host. It’s testing your magic strength by seeing how much you can pour in there.]

‘Of course. These kinds of things are always suspicious.’

She poured a moderate amount into the sphere, and Ezekiel wasn’t surprised by the results. He smiled and said, “You are a bit below average, but don’t worry. Many mages who had joined have moderate strength. Yours may be a bit below theirs, but I have confidence that you’ll do well.”

“Thank you,” she showed a polite smile.

“Now then, I’ll escort the hero to his designated room, and someone else will be here to guide you to the mage’s headquarters.”

Ezekiel stood up and gestured for Noah to follow. Following him out of the room, he glanced one more time at Yulia. She waved goodbye with a smile before the door closed. Everything was finally starting to settle.
