Chapter 15
Richard frantically walked out of the banquet hall. The wrist that Karhan held trembled as if it were about to fall off, but that wasn’t the problem now.
Returning to the Marquis Tersian mansion in a carriage, Richard rummaged through the pile of papers. All documents were prepared by the broker, and from one to ten, there was nothing that did not go through his hands.
Richard, who was about to contact the broker right away, remembered that he had left to find a new client.
“Shit…”
He felt choked. But there was still hope. The broker told him the address where he was going, so he was going to send someone over there. Send an official letter to the royal family to confirm that the deal was made……. And…, And…
Like a worn-out thread, his thoughts didn’t continue and it kept breaking off. Anxiety ate him up. Richard, who was scanning the document with trembling hands, stopped breathing. How much money did he borrow from the bank? How much money does he have to pay the other vendors? The money borrowed from acquaintances to use for living expenses……?
A huge amount of money that couldn’t even be counted weighed down on Richard like a rock, and he felt like he was being crushed to death when he thought of the money he had to pay back.
He had already sold everything he could, and he would not be able to pay all his debts even if he handed over the mansion. Even the 10,000 products that were produced were taken by the broker himself, saying he would distribute them. Richard muttered to himself as the blood drained away.
“Why… Why didn’t I think of doubting…….”
Richard looked back on the first time he met a broker. The broker was clean. He was not a nobleman, but he had a good reputation as a merchant. He was close to many celebrities, and all previous transactions were successful. He was perfect as a broker. Richards shook his head.
“Yeah, when the sun comes up, I can go see his acquaintances.”
They will know. Where the broker is and what he is really like. He must have leaked information to his close acquaintances.
Richard rubbed his face up and down with his palm. He couldn’t forget Lilia’s face when he last saw her. It was the same as the last banquet. Before the scandal erupted, she looked at him with a faint smile.
“Damn it!!”
The thought of being played around with Lilia’s crafted board made him feel disgusted. He didn’t know when or how far it was planned. There was only the crumpling sound of innocent paper, and then the sound of footsteps rang out in the hallway. Soon the bedroom door burst open and Siona rushed in.
“Richard Tersian!!”
Siona, who ran screaming, grabbed Richard by the collar. Her face turned red and she screamed.
“You got scammed!!! What does this mean for us now!!”
“……Let go of me.”
“My money! What about my money?!”
Perhaps the collar was not enough, Siona grabbed Richard’s hair and ripped it off. The power of her grasp was so great that a scream came out of his mouth.
“Are you crazy?”
Richard pushed Siona roughly. Siona screamed as she fell to the floor.
“I trusted you and invested! What are you going to do now?…. It’s all because of you!!!”
Siona, who got up again, rushed at Richard with a scream. Upon hearing the disturbance, the employees rushed and tried to separate Siona, but she did not fall back.
“Why is it my fault! Did I tell you to invest? If you’re married, you should mind your own business!”
As Richard shouted face to face, Siona spat out swear words. In spite of the foul language that was close to a curse, Richard fought with Siona by grabbing her hair. As the disturbance grew bigger and bigger, the Marchioness appeared.
“What are you doing!!”
The Marquis Tersian with a cane roared. As the marquis tried to stop the fight, Siona cried and said,
“Richard, that bastard has been scammed!”
“……What?”
The expression disappeared from the face of the Marchioness. The Marchioness looked at Richard with a creepily straight face.
“What do you mean?”
“The broker was a fraud!”
With a thud, the Marchioness sank on the floor. She began to talk to herself as if she had lost her mind.
“No way. It must be a dream. That’s ridiculous.….”
“Mother!”
Richard pushed Siona aside and approached the Marchioness. Then the Marchioness turned her head and looked at Richard.
“You’re lying, aren’t you?”
For a moment, Richard couldn’t say anything. He couldn’t even come up with an excuse. The Marquis screamed when Richard didn’t answer.
“ARGHHHH!!!”

Surprised, the three people reached out to her, but she passed out. The employee next to her woke her up, who was helpless. When the employee helped the Marchioness out, there was a horrifying silence.
Even Siona, who was sobbing, did not breathe a single breath. The face of the Marquis, who stood tall like a stone statue, gradually turned earthly. He clasped his cane hard enough as if to break it.
“Th-this…”
The Marquis Tersian, who raised his cane, began to beat Richard.
“You’re a useless bastard!”
“Ouch! Father!”
When the tall man hit him with an iron cane, it hurt to tears. But the Marquis did not stop. He poured out his anger on Richard as if he were venting all his anger that had accumulated until now.
“It’s all your fault!! The fact that I was left behind in the Imperial Palace, and that the historic mansion was on the verge of being handed over to another person………!”
cried the Marquis, throwing out the bent cane.
“Get out now!!!”
Richard, who was crouching, was forcibly dragged out. The Marquis ran wild, saying, “Never think about coming back until you catch the fraudster.”
Richard, who was kicked out at night, burst into tears. He grabbed the gate and begged for forgiveness over his mistake, but the answer didn’t come back/but was met with silence. Eventually, Richard dragged his throbbing body away from the mansion.
His hair was torn, and the new clothes for today’s banquet were ragged. Richard decided to visit those whom the broker boasted of his friendship.
From then on, he started going around the houses of his acquaintances. Most of them frowned at the sight of Richard, who suddenly came at night, but they answered him gently because his condition seemed unusual.
“Oh, him? He has been my drinking friend, but I don’t know much about him personally…….”
“He was a man who liked to listen. But I don’t know more because he rarely talks about himself.”
“I’ve heard roughly about what he was doing, but I’m not sure.”
Everyone just said, “I don’t know.” The people who confirmed that they were acquainted with the broker were saying the same thing
‘We’re close, but we don’t know.’
Richard, who was staggering, collapsed on the road. This has made it clear. The fact that he was perfectly scammed.

The splendid lights of the banquet hall grew farther and farther away. Karhan paused and stared at the banquet hall before returning to the carriage.
It was a place where he was confident until a while ago, but it felt as far as a mirage. The goodwill of the people that was directed at him, the dancing with Lilia……. He felt like he woke up from a midsummer night’s dream.
When he looked up, he saw the terrace that he went out with Lilia earlier. He was going to take a short break, but Lilia’s condition became strange after she came out on the terrace. Her face was red as if she had a fever, and she could not answer the question properly. She had been overdoing it lately, so he thought she might have gotten sick/overwhelmed.
Karhan suggested that it would be better to go back home, and Lilia agreed. Then Lilia went home first with the Bloden family. Karhan removed his gaze from the terrace and started walking again.
—Let’s continue to…… Let’s be good friends.
Suddenly, he remembered what Lilia said on the terrace. He hadn’t even confessed properly yet, but Lilia has already drawn a line in her relationship with Karhan.
Just as the moon hid in the clouds, Karhan’s face darkened a little. Before, Lilia told Karhan that he was a good friend. One side has a different feeling unilaterally, so is this relationship friendly? Can’t it be more than that?
For a moment, the darkened eyes returned. Karhan muttered to himself.
“You’ve changed….”
In the past, he would have been disappointed and given up on his own. It won’t work, it’s already over. But Karhan has already changed too much to back down at Lilia’s words.
Above all, he didn’t want to give up this feeling that he learned belatedly by stacking it up step by step. How could he stop a heart that grew more every day in an instant? Of course, he couldn’t continue to force his feelings on her, so he thought it would take some time.
Karhan’s carriage was seen in the distance. As Karhan was walking in that direction, he saw a person standing in front of the carriage and stopped. The woman with her dark brown hair up was Rebecca, Karhan’s mother. Rebecca, who was standing with her arms crossed, frowned when she found Karhan.
“What are you doing?”
There was cold criticism coming from Rebecca’s mouth.
“Didn’t I tell you to stay out of sight?”
Karhan did not avoid her gaze and looked directly at Rebecca. Perhaps she didn’t know he would face her head-on, but Rebecca’s eyes seemed surprised.
Events of the past flashed into Karhan’s mind one by one. Rebecca was something that Karhan could never resist. It was natural for him to obey and submit to her.
Once upon a time, Karhan wanted to be her family. Although not loved like his brother Blaire, he wanted to be recognized as family, not just a family member. But that is just a lingering feeling..… He only realized now.
“I don’t want to.”
“What…?”
At the unexpected answer, Rebecca asked back.
“I have no intention of doing so.”
It took him a long time to utter this single sentence. Now he knew how warm the sun was shining. Karhan didn’t want to be in the shadows anymore.
