Clink!

A sword crashed onto a magic shield making a loud metallic sound. Seeing her failed attack, the woman pulled back and glanced at her opponent with a high guard.

"What's on your mind, my dear little sister?" The woman asked.

Elise didn't respond but her eyes laid upon the woman whose red hair was a little shorter than her. Her beauty screamed maturity and together with her alluring hazel colored eyes, many men would turn their heads at the sight of her.

"Father is going home today." Elise said before conjuring a magic circle from her hands. Aether gathered around her palms as she aimed it toward her sister.

[Flame Barrage.]

Wooosh!

Numerous flame balls shot through the air.

"Oh…" The woman answered as she jumped around, successfully dodging the fireballs. However, the ground where it crashed was now scorched and had turned black.

The woman continued, "Isn't that a normal thing? He's been worried about you after you left for 30 days and now you're grumbling as if you got scolded."

Elise gritted her teeth and poured more aether into her spell, increasing the number of fireballs traveling into the air.

Seeing the intensity of her attacks, the woman didn't evade anymore and positioned her sword forward. Stepping to the ground with a huge force, she swung her sword, successfully slashing the fireballs in quick succession.

Slash—, slash—

The woman had a smile on her face, proving that this kind of thing wasn't even enough to make her serious at all.

"So you got scolded huh?" The woman muttered before bursting into laughter. "Hahahaha, what a fool! I already warned you not to accept his task! And yet, you kept wanting to prove yourself."

At that moment, the woman sheathed her sword and shook her head at the stupidity of her little sister.

'Can't be helped.'

"Elise, you've known our father for so many years and we all know that he's just a mean bastard. Unless you become the queen of the world, he'll never be proud of you. Look at us, we're not even bothering him anymore." The woman advised Elise as they both sat on the training ground bench with sweats oozing on their forehead.

The sun was bright above their heads and together with the quick spar, anyone could feel the hotness they were feeling right now.

"You don't understand, Sister Diane. It's not like that." Elise shook her head, denying her sister's allegations.

Although she's still a little upset about what happened back then, it's not the first time she experienced being scolded. She has already gotten used to her father's behavior.

"Ehhhh?" Diane tilted her head in confusion; her eyes narrowed. "Are there any other reasons?"

"Yes, and I'm sure even mom would be shocked when he got back." Elise smiled thinking of their reactions before shaking her head, "I'll take that back. Not only mom but all of you would be surprised."

Bewildered by Elise's words, Diane held her chin. She felt intrigued about this thing and was wondering what this surprise could be.

'Did he win a grand lottery or something?'

However, no matter how much she pondered about it, Diane couldn't really come up with a reason that would surprise her. In the end, she grumbled cutely.

"Why don't you just tell me?" Diane nudged her arms on Elise as she smirked. "Come on, tell me, tell me…"

"Hmph, just wait till he comes back. He's already on his way anyway." Elise pouted not wanting to tell her sister about it. In her mind, the figure of a boy rippled around like waves of water not wanting to get out.

'That bastard, how dare he take advantage of us?'

She was furious thinking about how he purposefully dragged the flight in a wavy pattern so she could cling to his body while they were flying with Shelly.

That's not the thought of a 12 year old boy at all!

Now he's part of the family, how does it make sense?

Maybe he even planned all of this from the start!

"Come to think of it, I heard you got into a fight in the academy? Yesterday, was it?" Diana suddenly remembered something and asked her sister about it.

Elise was awoken from her thoughts and immediately replied, "They are from the Rexus House. I think they just wanted to take revenge for what happened to Kleo."

"They suspect you?"

"Well, I'm with him, together with my friends. After I came back alone, they surely suspected that I killed all of them. Can you believe it? They even accused me of killing my friends!" Elise expressed her dissatisfaction with clenched fists. Knowing the truth, she couldn't help but fight back.

"But you told me that you only killed Kleo right? So who took care of his dogs?"

"It's…"

"Aha! I see… I get it. You don't have to explain. I can already guess the whole picture." As if a light bulb appeared on top of her head, Diana interrupted her sister's words.

"W-what?" Elise's mouth twitched wondering what her sister could be thinking.

Diana caressed her imaginary beard, and like a wise sage, she began to explain what she guessed in her mind.

"You must have been fighting monsters and then you're probably losing. Before you know it, Kleo betrayed you and pushed you away as bait for the monster so they could run away. But!" Diana stopped and smiled mysteriously, "The monster didn't kill you, instead, it chased Kleo and the others. Kleo barely managed to kill it, however, in the process, your friends got killed as well. Ahh, and then you kill him right?"

At that moment, Elise hurriedly fled away from the training ground not wanting to listen to her sister's delusional conclusions.

But then again, her guess was also quite interesting. Unfortunately, that's not what happened.

"If you want to learn a spell, I could arrange you to the academy. They have the best quality instructors so I'm sure you'll learn a lot from them."

Drifting in an endless stream of clouds, two people sat on the back of the eagle. However, their faces looked calm as if the wind resistance couldn't bother them.

"Honestly, I don't want to go to the academy." Zeus said, looking at the path ahead.

"Why? If you want to learn many things, it's the best path you could ever take. You can socialize, meet friends, rivals, and even receive advice from veteran professors." Duke Kayn elaborated on several benefits he could receive.

To be honest, it was tempting. Learning new things and meeting friends he could trust were something he also dreamed of while he was in the mountains. Of course, the academy also has its perks but he didn't go down the mountain just to attend classes like his other peers.

He's here with a purpose. Finding his father and experiencing the wonders of the world. Being in the academy would limit his freedom. What's more, there's also a risk of being targeted once they found out that a 12-year-old boy already awakened his aether.

Zeus just couldn't risk it. It's better to be careful.

"I feel like the academy is not suitable for me. If I merely wanted to be friends or to socialize, I could just do that anywhere. But, I have a purpose. Finding my father has always been my priority."

"Well, I won't force you. In fact, you don't really need to go there. It's not a mandatory thing but the chances of finding your father would be much easier if you're in there. Come to think of it, you haven't told me his name yet." Duke Kayn said, placing his hands on his chin.

"I'm afraid to reveal his name. It's just… he might be a criminal so…" Zeus said, shrugging his shoulders.

Hearing Zeus' conclusion, Duke Kayn's eyes sharpened in awe. Not only was he cautious but also a bit mature for his age. Sometimes, Duke Kayn even wondered if he was talking to a grown man all along.

"If that's the case, so be it. I won't interfere with your affairs but if you need help, you can come to me. You're part of the Ambrose Family now and we always got your back."

"Duke…"

"Mm?"

"Sometimes I'm wondering why you're so kind to me. I know I saved your daughter and you're probably just repaying it but this is too much, isn't it?"

"Frankly speaking, I valued your talents and wits. That's all. If you think of a reason beyond that, then it's your choice to believe it. But remember, you're free to leave if you feel trapped."

Zeus nodded. He knows his limitations that's why he chose to have backing than receive a material reward. If he leaves, wouldn't his reward go for nothing?

"Thank you."

Duke Kayn gently smiled and nodded.

At that moment,

Caw!

Zeus raised his head and looked at Shelly's figure who just landed on top of the eagle's body. Immediately, he stood up and received her in his arms. Looking at her tired face, a soft sigh escaped from his mouth.

She was already fast asleep.

"She can really sense me even if I left her for over one hour now? That's like a few thousand miles, right? Maybe even more."

Duke Kayn glanced at Shelly with a hint of interest.

"Your pet is quite special. Her tracking skills are unheard of. Well, perhaps it only works for her owner but still, that's a really convenient trait."

Zeus nodded in agreement. It seemed like her origins are not as simple as he thought. Earlier, he left Shelly in hopes of finding out if she could track him through the scent of his clothes.

Of course, she's aware otherwise, she'd burst into tears if he suddenly left her alone.

However, what the Duke didn't know is it wasn't only Shelly. For some reason, Zeus could also pinpoint her location.

'It's as if… I could see from her eyes.'
