Chapter 30: Arriving At The Manor

The ability to see from her perspective made Zeus a little bit ecstatic. However, no matter how much he tried to control it, he couldn't do it again. Even when it activates, it's only in random intervals and the scenes were also quite vague. 

Perhaps, it also might be Shelly who activated it through some sort of emotional trigger. 

'Maybe we could train that ability together?' Zeus thought inwardly. 

The potential of this ability is massive if used right. Imagine seeing two different places at the same time without being there. As Shelly could see in the dark, it would also be easier to traverse in the night without lights. There are so many other things it could do and of course, he couldn't wait to try it. 

The only problem is… 

'How do I do that?' 

The owner of the pet inn already eyed Shelly. She must be quite sure that Shelly is different from an ordinary raven. That might be the reason why she offered to buy her. 

Even then, how does he activate her potential? Does she need some sort of life and death situation? 

Zeus pondered for a moment but after thinking for a while, he shook his head. 

'No, I can't let her force it. She's still a child.'

According to the Duke, a beast usually awakens their aether at their adulthood which is 10 years. Then, that's the time when the owner trains them through hunting and eating monster cores. However, if that eye skill was truly from her, does that mean she already awakened her aether? 

[ Pet: Shelly (Raven?).] 

'It has a question mark now.' Looking at the status window, Zeus fell into a deep thought. 

"What's on your mind?" Duke Kayn asked. 

"A lot of things."

"Really? But, I think you should forget it for now." 

Zeus raised his eyebrows and tilted his head in confusion. 

At that moment. 

Whoosh! 

The eagle suddenly began to lower their flight altitude. They descended through the dark clouds which were filled with lightning storms inside. After passing through it, the weather subsided and the eagle's flying speed started to slow down. 

"It's because we're here." 

As the eagle glided through the skies, the jaw-dropping view of the capital lay before his eyes. Unlike the different atmosphere and the medieval designs of the safe zone, the capital was much more organized and modernized. Even calling it a city wouldn't be an understatement. 

Unfortunately, the technology seemed lacking compared to Earth. It would be nice if there are cars. But then again, they don't really need it since they could use beasts as means of transportation. 

As Zeus surveyed the capital, his eyes shifted to the humongous and majestic palace standing at the very center. It was surrounded by brick walls and was enveloped in a huge dome. Feeling the dense aether surrounding it, Zeus' eyes sharpened. 

'The King is here. One of the 4 known powerful figures in the world.'+

This is also the height he wanted to reach. No, rather, he wanted to be beyond that. 

Shortly afterwards, the eagle passed by a seeming energy curtain which caused the eagle's flying speed to slow down. Numerous gazes suddenly raised towards them. It contained caution and hostility. However, after seeing a familiar aura, these people withdrew their gazes. 

'Must be the guards.' Zeus thought. It would be strange if there were no guards who monitor flying beasts passing by this area. 

Swoosh—

Aside from the view of the landscape below, Zeus also bumped into many exotic beasts flying in the air. The Duke greeted some of them and a few looked like his acquaintances. 

Even then, the flight didn't get much delayed. Just like the road laws, it seems like there are also rules to follow when flying in the capital. 

A few minutes later after that, the eagle finally arrived at the Ambrose Family Manor.

"Be respectful when greeting them. They might not like you at first so you have to give them a good first impression." Duke Kayn said as they passed by a long hall leading to the main room. Many maids and butlers bowed immediately as they galloped ahead. 

This manor isn't as large as Zeus predicted. It was probably just the size of a 4 story mansion. Even then, the free space was so large that you could even train spells without restriction. Also, there are pools as well and several areas for relaxation. 

Zeus nodded. "Yes."

First impressions were always important. Even though Elise wouldn't be a problem, he still hoped the others don't have much disdain against him. After all, it would be a hassle if they trouble him every day. 

"Ready?" 

At that moment, they stopped in front of a large wooden door. Zeus could hear faint chatters from the other side and adrenaline started to pump in his blood. 

He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and responded with a firm tone. 

"I'm ready."

When the Duke opened with a squeaking sound, the inside came into view. Behind the closed doors was a majestic hall glittering in an elegant light. 

Beneath the golden chandelier, 4 people sat in a circle with nutritious food laid on a glass table. They were seated on the uppermost side so there were still vacant chairs around. 

The Duke and Zeus sauntered through the room. As they entered, everyone suddenly stopped talking and straightened their backs. The mood gradually fell into a good atmosphere. 

"Welcome back, dear." A gorgeous woman with red hair spoke gently. Her deep rubyish eyes were full of love as she gazed at her husband. 

"I missed you, honey." Duke Kayn kissed the woman on her cheek before sitting on the lone chair. 

Zeus remained standing behind him as if he was a bodyguard. However, he could feel several eyes staring at him curiously. 

"Everyone." Duke Kayn spoke, garnering everyone's attention. 

"I'd like you to meet Zeus. Zeus, this is my wife, Isabel." 

Zeus stepped forward and gave her a handshake.

"Nice to meet you, ma'am." Zeus greeted in a soft tone. Her hand felt hot which made him wonder if it was because of her elemental affinity. 

"What a handsome young man." Isabel greeted him with a gentle smile. 

Hearing her compliment, Zeus felt a little embarrassed. After all, he's not really handsome in his opinion.

The Duke continued, "And these are my children. Diane, Karl, and Elise. My eldest is not here because he's stationed to guard the borders but in a few months, you might meet him."

Zeus looked at them and greeted them one by one. Diane seemed to be the second eldest of the three while Elise looked like the youngest. 

Diane looked like a carbon copy of her mother, having the same red hair and eyes. Moreover, her nonchalant gaze already hinted at her personality. Without a doubt, she's definitely an easy-going woman. 

"Diane Ambrose." Diane suddenly said as if she could sense his gaze. 

On the other hand, Karl is a handsome young man. He took on his father's genes with his enigmatic eyes and a seemingly neutral personality. With his perfect body build and look, he's probably the heartbreaker of many girls. 

Lastly, Elise is just Elise. Though she looked gorgeous in that white skirt and blouse, her eyes were staring at him as if he stole her favorite toy. 

"Who is he?" Diane asked curiously. 

"Cough, although this might sound a little sudden he's a boy I adopted." The Duke explained. 

"What!?" 

"Before you speak, you must have heard of Elise's incident right?" 

Everyone slowly nodded in unison. 

"It was an inevitable battle and this young man right here saved her from harm. So, I asked him for a reward but he didn't know what to say. Therefore, I decided to adopt him seeing that he was an orphan and had nowhere to go."

Zeus flinched a little, wondering why the Duke twisted the truth. Either way, he didn't interrupt and let him finish. 

"I'd like you to accept him as your brother and address him as such."

Silence pervaded the room as everyone except Elise opened their mouths in shock. 

"F-father, this is too sudden. What if he's a spy?!" Diane voiced her thoughts. 

"I already did a background check. He's clean."

"B-but still…" Diane stopped her words and glared at Zeus as if trying to devour him. Seeing his unfazed reaction, her brows raised. 

At that moment, Karl, who had been silent until now suddenly spoke in a nonchalant tone. 

"As long as mom accepts him, I have no problem."

"I agree with brother." Elise added. 

Seeing her two siblings push their decision to their mother, Diane bit her teeth. She looked at her mother with a complicated expression before sighing helplessly. 

"Fine, I agree. It's not like I could object to your decision." Diane said before looking at Zeus. "Don't you agree with me, little brother?" 

"Yeah." Zeus nodded. 

"..."

Seeing everyone settled down, Duke Kayn glanced at his wife, waiting for the final decision. 

"How about you honey?" 

"Well…it's fine. He looked like a fine young man. I wouldn't mind having him as my child." She turned towards Zeus and smiled, "I was an orphan like you so I know how you feel." 

"Hahahaha, good, good. Welcome to the family, Zeus."
