"You lived in the mountains alone!?" Isabel asked in shock after hearing Zeus' past experiences.
"Yeah, I don't have my options anyways. My father left me near the summit of the mountain so it's difficult to ask for help." Zeus answered truthfully. Although some of his words were only half true, it didn't change the fact that he lived in the mountains.
"What father would leave his child in such a dangerous place?" Isabel asked angrily. She's a mother and she knows the feeling of being a parent. When her children were just toddlers, she was even afraid of being away from them even if it was just a few feet.
Now, a father just abandoned his child in the middle of nowhere, how can she not be angry?
"It's alright, Ma'am. My father must have a reason to do that." Zeus uttered softly.
"Reason?! Haha, what ridiculous reason would it be? You're an adult now. Maybe he won't even recognize you anymore or perhaps he already forgot he has a child." Isabel's brows furrowed. Her teeth were clenched in anger for Zeus.
"Mom, calm down." Diane consoled her mother who was already boiling in anger.
Knowing that her emotions started to affect her words, Isabel looked at his husband and asked, "Dear, did you find out who his father is?"
Duke Kayn shook his head. "No. As he had no records or anything that could identify him, it's hard to find his father."
Isabel sighed and nodded. "I see." She turned towards Zeus and smiled, "Don't worry about your father. I will help you find him and we'll kill him together okay?"
Looking at that gentle smile, Zeus felt a sense of oppression.
'Did she just say kill?'
Zeus' body shuddered before forcing a smile in response.
"Y-yes ma'am."
"Call me mom."
"Yes, mom."
The lunch worked just fine without disputes. Zeus felt warm in his heart seeing that they didn't have many problems in having him in the house. Diane also asked many questions about himself and Zeus answered truthfully while also concealing what must be concealed.
The Duke, Elise, and Karl only listened but they were also interested in Zeus' past experiences.
As the conversation goes on, Diane, Karl, and Elise eventually say goodbye. Diane has a task to complete while Karl and Elise need to go back to the academy.
Therefore, after an hour passed, the lunch finally ended.
…
"What's your plan? You must have a plan if you don't want to go to the academy, right?" Duke Kayn asked as they strolled through the back garden of the manor.
"I plan to be an adventurer." Zeus said.
"Adventurer? Hmm, a very dangerous profession but I respect your decision. If you want to be one, I can recommend you to the guild hall but not now. At least not before you learn spells." Duke Kayn uttered. He didn't want to limit Zeus' freedom but it was necessary if he wanted to live long. Monsters aren't pushovers. Some of them are cunning like humans too.
"Well, that's what I planned but I don't have money to buy a spell book yet so I have to work part-time." Zeus addressed his concern.
"Money is not a problem. You're my son now so you don't need to worry about that." Duke Kayn assured him.
"By the way, where are we going?" Zeus suddenly asked. The Duke only told him to follow him but didn't tell him where they would go.
Duke Kayn adjusted his glasses and stared at the large house ahead.
"The library."
"Library?" Zeus asked with a little anticipation.
"Didn't you want to learn a spell? All of our spell books are inside here. However, I'm only giving you two so you could train them to the fullest."
Soon, they reached the library and entered inside. The interior was plainly designed and the only thing that looked elegant was the large chandelier hanging above.
"It's been a long time, Kayn." A raspy voice sounded behind them. Zeus turned toward the owner of the voice.
It was an old man with a white hair and freckles on his cheeks. A brown robe were wrapped around his body. He looked rather ordinary in his opinion.
'Librarian?'
"Oh, old man. You're still alive." Duke Kayn said without looking at the librarian.
"Ah, do you really wish for me to die that badly?" The librarian, who was an old man, arranged the book on the shelves and continued, "It's rare for you to come here. What's the matter?"
"I'm looking for lightning spells. Do we have that?"
"Lightning spells?" The old man stopped, adjusted his glasses, and stared at Zeus. "For this child?"
"Yeah, he awakened a lightning affinity so I'm trying to see if we have one."
"Oh, a genius then?" The old man grinned, showing one of his gold teeth as he stared curiously at Zeus.
"So do we have them?"
"Indeed, we do have them. Follow me." The old man walked into a book section and motioned them to come. His steps were relaxed as if he was stepping on water. Although Zeus noticed that strange scene, he didn't bother to ask.
As soon as they reached the book section, Zeus immediately saw the lightning insignia on the bookshelf. Then, as his eyes shifted down below, rows of books containing lightning spells entered his now hot eyes. They were neatly arranged as if it's been ages since they were last touched. Zeus looked around with a dazed expression.
After all, he might not see this amount of spellbooks in a lifetime.
"Well, it's been a long time since a lightning practitioner appeared in the Ambrose Family. Where did you get this child, Kayn?" The librarian asked as he looked fondly at Zeus.
"He's my son." Duke Kayn replied as he grabbed one of the lightning spells.
"Son?" The old man squinted his eyes as if thinking of something and then a shrewd smile formed on his lips. Looking at the Duke, he nodded in satisfaction. "Ah, it's good to be young."
Duke Kayn ignored the old man's remarks and walked behind Zeus.
"Choose two Tier 1 spells you want to learn. Find those which you think would suit you the most. I suggest picking an attack type and defense to balance it."
"I'll keep that in mind."
"Alright, I'd leave you, for now, take your time." Duke Kayn put the back he had back before turning towards the librarian. "I have to talk about something."
"Hmm, I see. Come with me."
Zeus secretly glanced at their disappearing backs before running his fingers towards the rows of books.
[Paralyzing Bolt.]
[Lightning Strike.]
[Thunder Roar.]
[Whip Bolt.]
"Hmm…what should I choose?"
At that moment, lightning suddenly flickered on his index fingers. It didn't rip anything but rather just a mere spark.
'What?'
Wondering if he was hallucinating, Zeus ran his fingers to the books again. This time, a spark flickered on his hand, particularly, in front of a spell book.
His brows furrowed together.
"Is it this book?" He grabbed the book and read its front page.
[Lightning.]
That's it. That's the name of the spell. Confused, he began to turn the pages.

"You can generate lightning through your hands… that's it?"
It doesn't look special nor is there anything worthy of his attention. Honestly, in his eyes, it looked pretty ordinary.
However, for some reason, his lightning element resonates with this book.
'Should I go for it?'
After pondering for a while, Zeus eventually decided to gamble. Since his affinity resonates with it, it must be special in some ways that the book doesn't show.
'Now, I have one. Which one should I choose next?'
His defense and speed are already strong. The system even evaluated its mid-1st Order Monster. In all actuality, he doesn't need to focus on it that much compared to other attributes. What he needs the most is lethality and attack power.
Looking back at the fight with that 1st Order Monster, his damage was the most concerning one. If not for his 'Enhance' skill reaching max proficiency at that time, the outcome wouldn't be predictable at all.
Zeus traced his fingers through the books once again. Unfortunately, this time, no books resonated with his fingers.
In the end, he chose a spell named [Thunder Spear]. A spell that in his opinion has the highest lethality out of all these Tier 1 spells. He also considered going for the area of effect types but the aether consumption is too high.
"Done?" The Duke's voice rang loudly in the library. Behind him, the old man followed.
"Yes, I picked these two." Zeus handed the two books.
"Hmm, Thunder Spear? Not bad, and this one is… [Lightning]?" Duke Kayn's eyes narrowed. "Hey old man, this book seemed strange."
"Let me see."
The Duke handed the book and the old man inspected it.
"Indeed. But shouldn't you know this one?"
"Huh?" The Duke placed his hand on his chin.
"This is one of the spells you plundered in Blitz City! You don't remember?"
"No."
"14 years ago! Didn't you destro—"
At that moment, Duke Kayn warned the old man through his eyes not to say anything further.
Unfortunately, Zeus already noticed it.
'No doubt, 'destroy' was the next word. Duke Kayn, did he destroy a city?'
Thinking about it, cold sweats trickled down his forehead. The city on Earth, particularly where he stays, is big. He just can't imagine it being Destroyed. Of course, not knowing the whole context, he remained indifferent.
"I can't really remember it anymore. That being said, since it's a spell I brought, it should be valuable at least. Here." Duke Kayn threw the book back at Zeus.
"Spellbooks could be absorbed for one to learn the contents instantly."
"Wait, wouldn't this—?" Zeus asked in doubt. He once asked Sera how to learn a spell. The answer was through absorbing spellbooks but once that happened, the spellbook would vanish and others wouldn't be able to learn it anymore.
This was the reason why many chose to practice it from scratch. Not only would it benefit many, but even future generations could learn it.
"I didn't tell you to absorb it. I'm just reminding you not to do that." Duke Kayn smiled before turning back to the librarian. "Old man, we're leaving."
"Go on, brat."
"What a rude old man."
Zeus bowed his head toward the librarian, showing his respect. After all, this old man just called the Duke a brat!
"I have high hopes for you child."
"Thank you."
The old man gave him a light nod. Seeing the Duke waiting at the entrance, Zeus immediately bid goodbye.
"Interesting kid… Anyways…"
At that moment, the old man pulled out a book from his hidden inside his clothes and began reading it. A few minutes later, his face was already blushing.
"Oh, Anna, you naughty girl…"
