Two shadows moved under absence of the sun. While the rain drizzled heavily on the village, they soon reached the place where the mutated man, who was also the village chief, currently resides.

It was ordinary; a house that seemed no different from the other village huts. However, a wooden spiked barricade circled the place, making it harder to sneak in without getting noticed.

Zeus stopped under one of the houses, a few feet away from the target location. His eyes scanned his surroundings before they swept towards the villagers guarding the barricade inside and out.

"Take their attention and try to intimidate them and while you do that, I'll sneak inside and kill the village chief." Zeus' voice contained solemnity. They only have one chance to do it otherwise if this plan failed, a swarm of villagers coming for revenge would surely go after them. With the number of them reaching hundreds, it would be hard to keep a soft hand.

"That's manageable." Khan equipped his gloves and started to move.

As his steps were loud and clear, even if it was raining, the villagers noticed his presence. Immediately, all of them raised their guards. In their heads, Khan is a threat. He already tried to kill their village chief after all.

"Are you here to kill the village chief again?" A burly man asked.

"We already told you that we won't let you do what you want here even if you're powerful."

"Unless you kill us, you won't be able to take a single step here!"

Their faces contained vigilance as they stared at the fat man. On the other hand, Khan remained unfazed. Despite his appearance, some of the villagers were still alert and had been sweeping their eyes in circles.

"Yes, I'm here to kill that monster," Khan said as a provocation which in turn ignited the fire in the villagers' eyes.

"What monster!? He's our village chief!"

"He took care of us when we didn't have anything to eat because all the goods were ransacked by the bandits! Now, you're despising him just because he's infected? How dare you say that to our savior!?"

"Even if we die here, we won't let you harm the village chief."

Voices reverberated under the sound of the rain splattering to the roofs. Khan felt conflicted as he listened to their calls. Even then, the village chief is no longer a human. It couldn't be changed. Just by standing here, he could already hear faint shrieks coming inside that house.

For Khan, that's not the voice of a human anymore.

"Hehe." Khan chuckled. "Is that so?"

He cracked his knuckles and stood proudly against hundreds of villagers who had their weapons raised. His aether burst out of his body.

"Then I won't be merciful to you…bastards!!!"

If this is a theater act, Zeus would have applauded Khan's believable act. Unfortunately, it was not and he has a job to do as well.

As Khan managed to catch their attention which was also his desired result, Zeus slowly moved outside their radar. Using silent footwork he trained with Sera, the process didn't take long and he arrived at the back of the house.

Shrieeeek!!!

Sweats trickled on his body but the rain washed them down away. Now that he was nearby, he could hear the cries of the monster inside the house.

'Going through the door is not a good choice.' Zeus surveyed the area before his eyes darted to a broken window. He murmured, "I'll use this."

The window was only composed of bamboo sticks so it was easy to enter without making any sounds. With his knowledge of stealth, Zeus easily sneaked inside.

Shrieeeek!!!

Zeus hurriedly activated his [Lightning] and [Enhance]. He followed where the shrieking sound came from and he arrived in an open room where light rarely passed through.

However, his sight peered towards the mutated rat tied on the floor.

'Is this the village chief?'

Despite the dim light, the appearance of the monster entered his sight.

It was a horrifying creature.

Calling it a rat would be an insult to the real rats. Its head was shaped into a triangle with cracks and gushing blood on it. Overly large ears protruded from his temple, all the way down to his shoulders. The body of this creature now resembled a zombie-like appearance with melting skin which made his bone and organs easy to spot.

Several metal chains locked this monster down, preventing it from escaping and wreaking havoc.

'This is new.'

This was the first time he saw a horrifying creature. Just staring at the creature, goosebumps creeped into his skin like a group of bugs crawling down his spine.

He's not afraid. Rather, he's just overwhelmed how a creature could be this vile.

Without hindrance, Zeus raised his staff. After his [Lightning] proficiency went up, he can now coat his weapon in lightning. As such, around his staff, golden lightning crackled as if numerous snakes.

Zzzz—

At that moment, with a strong force, Zeus slammed down his weapon.

Shu—

The ground exploded.

Boom!!!

The monster released a painful shriek as it felt the staff smash its body. Instincts kicked in and it tried to escape after its shackles broke.

Unfortunately, Zeus wouldn't let this monster go. With another attack, the monster flew in the air like a cannonball, and crashed onto a nearby wall, penetrating through it in the process.

Baam!

In the end, his body rammed outside before eventually puncturing itself onto the spiked barricade.

Shrrieek!!!

Unfortunately, with the loud cries of this monster, the villagers currently being stalled by Khan were immediately alerted. As they looked where the sound came, their eyes widened.

"The village chief!!!"

"Damn it, we're fooled! He has an accomplice!"

"Village chief is bleeding! Doctor Robert, help us!!!"

Zeus exited the house with greenish blood splashed on his face. His staff was dripping with blood too but as the rain splattered on his body, this blood was washed away.

"Staff boy! You did it!" Khan's voice echoed from a distance. He hurriedly rushed through the scene and looked at the monster which was not missing half of its body.

"You overdid it," Khan muttered.

Zeus shook his head. "What can I do? My staff doesn't cut…it destroys."

The monster shrieked uncontrollably like a lost child in the woods. It must have been agonizing to resist the pain of his shattered lower half. Cries of panic and helplessness resounded through the village as they watched their village chief's final shriek.

At that moment, the monster's voice gradually became lower until its breath finally diminished.

"With this, it should be mission complete right?" Khan looked at the villagers with pity. After this, they would go back to Zeus' house and ask the Duke for quick assistance to help them cure the villagers.

At that moment, a panting voice called toward Zeus and Khan.

"You two! You really did it!"

It was Doctor Robert. His face was filled with joy, grief, and satisfaction. It must have been hard for him as he had to deal with so many villagers asking for his help.

"No. It's you that we have to thank, Doctor Robert. Without you, maybe these villages won't last long." Khan smiled in gratitude.

Doctor Robert wiped the tears from his eyes. He's really happy to be able to gain the appreciation of these adventurers.

"Do you have any plans now?" Robert asked.

"I'm going to ask the Duk— my father for help," Zeus replied, stuttering halfway through.

"Is that so?" Doctor Robert asked worriedly before he sighed in relief. "Thank God."

However, even after Zeus' assurance, Doctor Robert was still worried. It was evident on his face as he looked at the two.

"Don't worry Doctor Robert, we'll save the villagers. The source of the plague is gone and we could definitely do it." Khan's fists clenched together as he glanced at the red-eyes villagers glaring at them. He continued, "But not now. We have to calm them down first."

Zeus also nodded but if one stared closely, they would see the puzzled look in his eyes.

"Zeus, you should go back to the kingdom now, ask your father for help, and leave this to me." A determined expression formed on Khan's face. "I got this."

At that moment, instead of agreeing, Zeus pulled a note covered in plastic and handed it to Khan.

"What is this for?" Khan accepted the letter with a perplexed expression.

"Open that and recite that to my father. Use my horse parked on the farmhouse near the entrance. I'll take care of this."

Khan hesitated. "Are you sure?"

"100 percent." Zeus smiled.

As soon as Zeus said those words, Khan nodded and didn't dilly-dally around. At times like this, time is precious. Without turning back, Khan swiftly dashed away like a fast-moving wind leaving behind strong gusts of wind.

Zeus stared at his disappearing back before turning back to the villagers. Although their eyes contained a hint of madness, none of them initiated an attack.

"Young man, we should subdue them while they are still conscious. With their hatred, it would be hard to control them all at once." Doctor Robert, who was behind Zeus, suggested. He slowly moved towards Zeus with his hands behind his back.

"I'm planning to do that." Zeus clenched the staff in his hand, waiting for the opportunity.

Chests throbbing wildly as all the villagers readied their weapons.

At that moment.

Shu—

The wind behind him breezed just as Zeus was about to move. Then, after a second, he felt a sharp object pierce his back.
