Chapter 13: 12. Snake? Snake? Snaaaaake?!

Hehe, the level up from that beetle was really nice, guess I'm really lucky to be able to find such a good opportunity. Unfortunately, me finishing off the beetle enraged the snakes, the large one of them was hissing at me. The crowd of the fighting monsters were too busy fighting each other, although the ones that I had fallen into were now eyeing me. I gotta get outta here quick before I become the biggest target in this cave.

I hear that the hissing of the snake was getting louder and louder. It was obviously getting closer to me, suddenly one of the monkeys finally moves and takes a swing at me. The attack forced my head down which made me lose track of where the snake was. Suddenly two other monkeys come in and start flailing on me. Ow, ow, ow! I had nearly forgotten it, but these monkeys could still do damage to me seeing as the difference wasn't too large. Maybe I got a bit too arrogant with that level up, but I wasn't gonna sit and let these monkeys monkey around. I kick one of the monkeys with my hind legs, the force of the impact pushes it away, and makes it spew blood from its mouth. The other two stop attacking for a moment, I twist around to them and then I spew fire from my mouth, this hits one of the monkeys directly and lights it on fire. The monkey starts freaking out and runs around the place spreading the fire. While the fire was spreading around, I finally see that snake again, it was coiled and was preparing to strike at me. I hold the remaining monkey and use it as body armor for the snakes pounce to fail.

The snake had punched and bitten the monkey instead of me, the monkeys shoulder that was bitten was crushed by the attack, I put my claws around the snakes neck as it was attacking the monkey, and I squeeze as hard as I can, I had also appraised it while I was holding it.

Its stats were pretty high, but was there something wrong with its level? These thoughts were cut short as the snake had retaliated by twisting and biting me in my hand, Ow! I realized that it was a mistake and I let it go, the place where it bit me was slightly crushed. With blood oozing out. I felt a little woozy after that bite.

Oh crap! Was I poisoned by that bite?!

Not again! I'm tired of snakes and their stupid poison! Anyways, I just have to kill this long noodle, then I can run aw- Ahem I mean retreat.

Looks like the monkey that was on fire had perished, now that I see it again, I can see more things were on fire. Although some of them had started to run away. But luckily the snake had retreated slightly after being caught by me, it was now just standing there, eyeing me. Even the fighting around us had started to die down, as the fighters were starting to perish. I hurry up and lunge at the snake, since if I took any longer things would get bad. The snake rattles its tail as it raises its head and hisses, I inhale deeply and then I blow fire towards the snake with all my might.

["Sprinting" leveled up to lv. 2]

I continue running towards the snake at a higher pace than before, the fire had dissipated quickly but luckily it had damaged the snake slightly and gave me cover to get closer to it. I swing my claws at a third of its body to cut off its head. My claws cut halfway into it, but then freeze and stop. Its body was a little to hard for me to cut it completely, the snake moves its tail over me and was now trying to constrict me. From the corner of my eyes, I also spot more snakes coming. My time is nearly up, I need to do it quick. I start taking quick deep breaths, then I force my claw to move downward, I take my other hand and then start smacking down on my other hand. Breathing was getting difficult as the snake was still strangling me, it hadn't moved its head closer to me though. The world was blurring around me and I was begining to hear my own heart pound. Yet I continued trying to cut off its head.

["Fear resistance" leveled up to lv. 3]

I continue forcing my claws to go through, until suddenly, the resistance they were feeling was gone.

The clenching feeling in my neck had disappeared, and I had felt better instantly, my vision takes a while to return completely, but I at least was able to see the head of the snake fly off. But I wasn't safe yet, since the other snakes are coming. I know that I can't win against those numbers, they may be weaker than me individually. But I am not stupid like this beetle here.

I start running towards a clearing in between the trees, pass by 5 monsters that hadn't realized I was there. And then turned around and looked at those snakes, then I blew fire in between us, the trees and the shrubberies between them had caught fire.

I apparently killed some weak monster that was in there, poor them, but I really gotta bounce now. Since I'm now ahead while the snake leader is now a-head. Yeah, that didn't sound as good as I planned it to. Well, gotta bounce!

And then I leave running into the forest there, in fact, I think I was getting deeper into the cavern. Since the wall behind me was getting further and further away. Looking up, I realized that what I thought was a roof, was more like a root. Haha, that sounds kind of funny, but seriously, the roof here was some giant tree root. I was pretty close to a part I can reach, so I decide to head on there.

I wonder what I'd see there.
