Chapter 5: 5. Suitable opponent.

So you might be wondering what I've been doing for the last I don't know how long, well, as you see, I've been frog watching. Frogs are a very fascinating species, with many peculiar aspects in their behav- Wait, who am I even talking to?! Wasn't talking to yourself the first sign of insanity? Well, I can think better if I talk to myself. Alright, now let's think of what to do with the information I got, first of all, the frogs always try to avoid going up here, mostly due to fear from the upper monsters, so I've been using it as a base of operations of some form. Secondly, the tunnel that continues going down, has some weaker enemies than the frogs, seeing as they constantly went there to find something to eat. Thirdly, I'm super hungry, but my thirst isn't super high currently. I've also been practicing appraisal all the time while I was watching the frogs, once again, the information is absolutely useless. Come on Appraisal, pull your weight.

I am also begining to see a pattern here, when they go to eat, they usually leave with 3 others or something like that, I just need to wait until they are reduced to the smallest number possible, then I'll strike, also their intelligence is really bad, like I'm talking they might forget something that just happened to them, since they continue to sit on the lily pads despite their predators being directly under them, that is some serious Stockholm syndrome. And they grow up really quickly, like I'm talking like a tadpole could become a frog in days, I actually don't know how long exactly, I just count one day as if I slept or not.

They're also really violent, I was shocked when I saw the tadpoles basically killing each other, how does this species even survive?! But all of that are unimportant details, what I care about most is what their patterns are like. I hear the water splashing and I look back at the frogs, I thought that they were being eaten, but instead, a large group of them had left, leaving only 3 of them at the lake, this might be my chance, although they are still too many.

I had an idea when I looked at the fish in the water, I started digging at the wall and chipped a large piece from it, then I heated up the rock with my fire breath in secret, and then I threw it into the lake, it was a hard throw since my center of mass was different, but i still made it. When the rock gets into the water, it starts sizzling and hits the fish in its face, the frogs were now looking at the rock. I wait a while and then the fish that had got irritated starts attacking the frogs, it chomps down on one of them and kills it, the other two start fleeing from the lake. One of the frogs get caught by another fish and only one of them had gotten away, nice! This worked ten times better than I thought it would. I run up to the frog that still didn't realize I was here, then I stab it from the back with my claws. The claws only do slight damage to it and wasn't enough to finish it off. Yup I should have expected this, the frog turns and we look at each other.

Woah! The frog tried to smack me with its tongue after that awkward moment. I jump sideways to try and dodge it, and just like the previous frog, this one also had some acid poison thing in its tongue, the frog was still stronger than me in physical terms, I felt a little bad for myself to be overshadowed by a frog. But I still had one advantage, I can breathe fire while it can't, although I don't know how to use that advantage here. I kept on trying to dodge the attacks of the frog as long as I still had breath remaining, the frog was getting closer which made it increasingly harder to dodge.

As I kept dodging I was looking around for anything that could help me, I saw a hole in the wall that looked like it could break at any moment, and so I moved over to it to make the frog miss and accidentally hit the wall. I stand in front of the wall and wait for the frog to aim at me, it fires its tongue straight at me like a spear and then I move sideways and let it hit the wall, the wall wasn't damaged by the hit of its tongue, but the acid burnt the rocks enough to make it fall on its tongue. Haha, I did it! You just activated my trap card! I run around and then attack the struggling frog, I attack it from the side since it couldn't attack me from there.

I bite it from its side and I breathe fire into its side, bleh it also tasted terrible but I wasn't gonna eat it now, I felt a little light headed after using fire breath again. But I continued attacking the struggling frog until it finally stopped moving.

I won, I was panting from the battle, but I finally won! I can now eat in peace, well, it won't be an enjoyable meal but at least I can eat! I grab the frogs' body and move it up to the tunnel I was hiding in, then I prepare myself for trying to eat it, come on Lisa you can do it, it's just a frog. French people eat frog legs as a food right? So that means that it isn't as bad as it seems right?

Alright fine! I know that I'm just delaying the inevitable, I just need to do it! Ok I'm closing my eyes.

Ewww, it's really nasty, like eating wet bitter rubber, eating it is a nightmare! A kitchen nightmare if you will. Come on, just eat all of it already! I force myself to finish the frog.

Oh nice, I got some evolutionary points from that arduous task, but let's at least think of a few positivities, well, it was certainly better than a burnt spider at least, but I am still seriously feeling down, I'm sorry mom for all the meals I was picky about. Another few positivities are that I am now no longer starving! I even drank some water from the lake carefully so thirst will probably not be a problem. But man, fighting one frog was pretty difficult, all that preparation and combat for one singular frog. I guess I really need to train more or get stronger in any way.

Yep, that means spamming skills constantly, hooray...
