Chapter 4: 4. Leaving the danger zones.

The only sleeping that I had done was in the form of power naps, I kept on getting woken up by the cave rumbling or the screeching of monsters, a delicate girl like me can't sleep like this y'know?!

Well, at least I should be thankful that nothing found me in my hole. I heard my stomach grumble while I was thinking, ugh I guess that spider wasn't really enough to satisfy me, I really don't wanna eat another one. And it's likely that the frog I killed was already eaten, that's kill stealing you know?! Man what am I gonna do about food? If I don't eat anything then I'm as good as dead. I guess I'll have to exit my hiding hole and look for an opponent that I can beat, or I could just look for edible plants in this cave, although there is a risk of them being poisoned.

I should at least have a peek outside to see what is going on, right? I push aside the vines and moss then look outside, I see masked weasel like things attacking a giant centipede from all directions, it looks like the centipede might be winning but I don't wanna know who wins. I guess this is my opportunity to run and find another place while these monsters are fighting and others are eyeing them. I leave my hole and then sneak away to try and find a smaller sub-cave or something.

Finally! I've been sneaking around for a while and I've finally gotten the skill. Behind me I was still hearing the screeching of the centipede and the destruction happening between those two. Goodbye my hole, you've served me well, but I don't think I can return here from these monsters. I sneak until I find a tunnel that leads downwards, before I head in I think about what could be inside, usually in games going down means that you're going to more difficult levels right? So I think that I shouldn't go inside this tunnel, but I should hurry and find another one or something, since I don't feel safe at all being out in the open like this.

Good grief, I should hurry up and find someplace, since the sounds of fighting are getting quieter, I was still looking for someplace to hide, when I hear screeching from the roof, when I look upwards I see that monstrous bats were approaching me, I instantly spring into action and start running, I need to run to the closest hole that I know! Ah screw it perhaps my game logic is wrong! I think as I dash towards the tunnel that lead downwards. I should at least appraise those bats while I'm running.

That literally doesn't help at all! What is wrong with you Appraisal?! No no no! Get away you stupid bats! I swear that I'm not delicious, I think at least. Come on, I'm getting closer to the tunnel, but they're also getting closer! I finally got close enough to the tunnel that I jump inside it, the bat tries to snatch me as I jumped but narrowly missed. I made it! The bats were trying to fish me out from the tunnel with their claws, luckily they were too large to get me. Well, I think I should leave before I test my luck too much, hopefully there was an exit or anything inside this place. I walk down the tunnel while occasionally looking at the bats, you will forever be in my sight, well, at least until I leave this place though. Ah my stomach was still grumbling, I seriously need to find some food soon, I walk down the tunnel until it opens up into a larger cave, in that cave I saw a lake there. Water! I also nearly forgot about my thirst, man if only I had some water producing thing.

Looking closer at the lake I see that there were more of the giant frogs there, I could see nearly 15 of them hanging by the lake, there were also fish deep in the lake. Attacking them would be suicide, maybe if I can pick off just one of them then I'd be able to kill it and level up, but how will I get one of them to follow me? I should at least study what they are doing before I do anything reckless, since if it gets down to me running, it's either going back out there or praying for an exit. Man, why am I in such a high level dungeon?! Isn't there a tutorial or anything? Serious bad game design.

Before I start studying the frogs, I should at least study myself, no not in a spiritual way to find myself, but to find out my abilities as a drake, some are pretty obvious, I can use my claws and teeth, but can I climb walls since I'm sorta like a lizard? I try to climb the wall next to me, then I fall down on my back, well that was embarrassing, but luckily no one saw that right? Ok, no climbing ability, but can I breathe fire since I'm a drake, uh how do you do that? I guess think of a skill name like [Fire breath] then exhale?

Alright, I should at least try that. Here goes nothing!

I exhale and a small stream of fire was exhaled from my mouth, that was awesome! I actually used some fantasy like ability, maybe I am not all that weak after all! I get back down as I see that the frogs had turned their head towards my direction, oh crap, that was a mistake, I look back again and I see that one of the frogs was coming here, oh crap oh crap, am I about to get a game over in this stealth mission?! This is why I hate them! Shoo shoo froggy, don't come here! Please god somewhere in heaven, let this stupid frog go somewhere else!

Suddenly, one of the fishes jump up and devours one of the frogs, the other frogs turn their attention towards the fish and start fighting it, the frog that was approaching me though still kept on coming, I thought with all my might until I had a stroke of genius. Oi Mr. System, I want to level up my claws!

I felt my claws being tingly, there was no time to focus on it since the frog was getting even closer. I jump up the wall and try to climb with my claws, I couldn't really make holes in the wall, but I could at least place them in the cracks in the wall, I kept climbing until I reached the roof, I activated stealth and I held on for dear life.

The frog had passed from under me and was looking around it, it didn't find anything, and was about to return. I could attack it now, and risk getting caught by the frogs after they deal with that fish, or I could wait and look for another opportunity after investigation. I spent too long overthinking the positives and negatives of each, that the frog had returned back to the lake to assist with the fish, looks like it'll be the second option for me.

Phew at least I can hold on a bit better than earlier, I slowly get down and I continue hiding, well the positive side is that there are 6 less frogs now, although I'll still get destroyed if I fight that many at once. Calm down my rumbling stomach, once I learn more about them, I'll be able to eat one of them.
