Vesemir Master of the Wolf School p.o.v.

Coming upon the field of decay as the locals call it I began to reminisce about this contract. Eskal returned to Kaer Morhen from the path this winter, with contract he wanted advice on. Giving it of course  I found myself curious and decided that i would join him after winter. So when spring hit Eskal,Leo and I left south for AEDIRN. Though I'd rather not bring young Leo along but I'm sure he'd go insane all alone in the castle while I'm gone.

The contract itself was a weird one, from what it sounds like it seem to some kind of curse. It said that anything coming within the range of the decay dies slowly, like their energy is drained from them. The villagers claim that the field has been growing for the last ten or so years and have already ask for assistance from a local noble. Though they did nothing and such have resorted to witchers.

Sure enough the name is fit, a large, almost perfect circle of nothing but stone and dirt appears in front of us. As I step into the circle I feel my magic being drained almost immediately. Not enough to empty my pool anytime soon but in a few days maybe. Though that time goes up as it start drawing even less when Eskal and Leo follow me into it aswell.

"Interesting, it seem this place is draining our magic, not much now that we're all here but definitely noticeable." I state as we head for the center of the drain. This is already a good amount of information, with it drawing magic from all of us it means whatever is the cause isn't malicious. Probably.

"Mmmm, maybe the cause is looking for an energy source and finally found one. Us, maybe why the drain is growing, it consumed all life energy here already." Eskal says with his rather dull witcher voice. Don't know why, we're the only ones here and I taught the idiot that.

Continuing our walk we reach the center where there is a crater, filled with rubble and dust. Not seeing or sensing anything, I drop down the 4 foot hole. Waving Leo down with me, I start sifting through the rubble as he does too. While Eskal kept watch and I was throwing stones out Leo yelped. Turning quick I put my hand on my steel sword get ready for a fight.

"What is it Leo?" Eskal ask, after doing as I did but focused more on Leo than I am.

"The pull on my magic after I touched that stone increased 10 fold." He states while pointing at an obsidian looking stone the size of a child's fist.

Walking up to the stone I hold my medallion close to it and get no response. Taking a chance I hold my finger to the stone for a second understand what Leo meant. It starts drawing my magic pool at an increased rate.

Pulling away I state,"well looks like we found what is draining things around here. Any ideas what it is?"

"No, but considering it's in a crater looking hole it might be from off planet or dropped from a portal high up. Or alot of things that could drop it." Eskal answers.

"Close to what I thought, thinking it might be like meteorite metal. So then what should we do Leo?" I ask turning this seemingly rather tame contract into a lesson.

"Study it like we would a monster and figure out ways to stop it from absorbing energy. Though to do that we might need to go and grab dimeritium or take to KAERM MORHEN." Leo says after a moment of thought while looking at the stone.

"Good answer, and I agree but you should take a look at this." I say as i pull out a small flask of dimeritium dust."A witcher is always prepared, as soon as you hear there is something to do with magic get what ever dimeritium you can."

Looking a bit bashful Leo nods and I take an extra pouch from my side. Pouring the dust into it and using tongs from my path alchemy kit, I put the stone into the pouch. Immediately the drain reduces to below my magic pool filling. Nodding my head I start heading back to the horses to collect the easy money from the contract.

Heading into the village and informing the elder we collect our pay and leave. Giving Eskal most of the money because Leo and I are headed back home. I give Eskal advice on where to head next, that being west the redania and kaedwan border. There being a few noble houses waging battle if the rumors true. Where there's war there's work as our saying goes.

Bidding farewell to Eskal a week later after crossing over the pontar into kaedwan. Leo and I keep heading north doing contracts to gather coon for the school and teach Leo with some hands on lessons. Along the way the stone seems to be draining through the dimeritium dust. Though adding more after buying it at a city seems to lower it even more than before. Thinking of the future I get as much as we can carry, cause even though there is a lot of bars of it at KAER MORHEN, dimeritium is very useful.

Seeing the the lands that are home to me always brings me happiness, even though the castle is not looking as good as it could. The stone has been drawing magic a bit faster but still not a lot. Plans to make a container of pure dimeritium is in my head. Though I'll probably feed it magic every now and then to see what happens.

2 weeks after returning, I'm finished with the dimeritium cube and have put the stone into it. It was absorbing more than when it was first put into the pouch of dimeritium. So here's hoping encasing it completely stops it.
