Jasmine tried to listen to the source of the sound. As if they were merely making fun of her, they had gone silent.

"Who are you?" She tried again.

"You don't need to know." The female voice turned stern. "Stay away from him."

She burst into laughter even though she felt worse than she already did. It was definitely a hallucination. If not, then the female warning her was Catalyah and she was trying to get rid of her romantic rival by scaring her to death.

"Catalyah?" She scoffed. The name gave her so much so much discomfort that she thought she would pass out. She needed to get her scepter and get out of here. If it was possible, she hoped she wouldn't have to recall anything that featured Catalyah anymore.

She didn't, but she did remember something that featured her own memory.

At the time, Dairon had been trying to Summon Alaya in vain. He had not managed to meet her because she was supposedly busy but the sea had reacted in a certain way that made him get the message.

Curious to know what would happen if she tried to summon Sophie, she had called for her across the sea. She didn't see Sophie either but the necklace with wings appeared.

At the time, she thought it was a gift from Alaya but she doubted it now. How could Alaya have mlsomething that belonged to Catalyah, an earth goddess?

On the other hand, it made perfect sense for Lolanthe to have something that belonged to Catalyah, and to gift it to her daughter. It would make sense that her natural mother didn't hear her call, but her adoptive mother did. The latter was after all an immortal. She felt cheated when it fell into place.

Why would Lolanthe give her Catalyah's necklace? Did she also view her as Catalyah's replacement? She hated to think about it anymore. It was driving her crazy.

As if on cue, the necklace appeared out of thin air and settled at her feet.

She rolled her eyes. She had not asked for it. She took a few steps forward while trying to ignore it and couldn't stop wondering whether she might need it. Why else would it appear out of thin air? She walked back and picked it up reluctantly. "I don't want to use you either. I have no choice, I swear." She put it around her neck and it was as though her vision had cleared. She had not thought that there was anything wrong with it before but after wearing the necklace, the space that was a void suddenly had two tunnels. Was this some treasure hunt?

She groaned when she realized that it was supposed to be a treasure hunt. She would find items along the way that she could use to her advantage and there would probably be clues to make the hunt easier. So far, she had not found any clues and she was certain that she needed one. Which tunnel was she supposed to take?

She could try one at a time but that might make her waste too much time. What if she couldn't find her way back?

She took a deep breath and looked down at the necklace. "Which way should I go?"

"Go left." There was that voice again.

She rolled her eyes. "I'm not naive."

Catalyah would definitely make her go the wrong way. That was possible, but it was also possible that Catalyah would expect her to think that way and to make her even more confused, she might tell her the right way to go.

She slapped her forehead. What now?

"The right tunnel leads you to the underworld." The voice explained. She was confused. Why was Catalyah helping her? She couldn't make sense of it no matter how she thought. At least she was certain that she would never help Marina. Perhaps that was the biggest difference between her and the King's successor.

After thinking through it, she walked through the left tunnel, leaving behind a trail of rocks in case she lost her way.

A flash of blinding light at the end of the tunnel made her shut her eyes and she immediately knew that it was a portal. If it didn't lead to the underworld, where would she go? Was that where her scepter would be?

There was only one way to find out. She slowed down and poked her hand through the source of the blinding light that looked like a cloud. When she pulled her hand back, it felt slightly warmer and her palm had a certain glow to it. The other side couldn't be a bad place.

She pushed through and slowly blinked her eyes to get used to the light. It looked like spring with the blooming flowers of different beautiful colors. The sea in her horizon looked hypnotising and she wanted to run over and take a swim.

She felt excited for some strange reason and before she could process it, she was running around like an overjoyed little girl. She had not felt this happy in… forever? It was as if a missing part of her had been pieced back.

Most importantly, she could feel the presence of her scepter. She knew that it was nearby and she wouldn't even need Phoenix to help her get to it. She could probably swim or walk towards it.

She didn't know that such a place existed in Clarepar sea. Was it one of the underwater kingdoms? She only knew of The Enchanted Circle but from the paintings, it looked nothing like this. This place was multiple times more beautiful.

She dashed to a boat by the seaside and instead of getting on it, she ran her fingers along it. The strong sense of recognition almost fooled her into thinking she had been here before, but that was until she realized that it looked like a place Dairon would love. The feeling of reunion must be his as well. She didn't know what to think of it.

Should she be overjoyed that she could understand him more than other females could comprehend their mates, because she could feel his emotions first-hand?

The realization made her feel a little proud of herself.

….

Two thousand years ago.

In the castle of Blaze.

"Where are you going?" Bardumond asked Catalyah who wouldn't stop humming as she skipped down the hallways. She had almost bumped into him when he entered the castle.

She stopped and adjusted her scarf onto her shoulders. "To the sea. Do you want to come along? Wait. You are probably busy."

"To the sea?" Bardumond was confused as he looked down at her. "Who goes to the sea dressed up like this?" She was wearing her most beautiful emerald gown that was different from everything else she wore, and the realization that it was nothing like goddesses wore made him raise his eyebrows.

He grabbed her arm. "Did you meet a male?"

She pulled away and burst into laughter. "Brother, I'm old enough."

"No, you aren't. Father will kill you if he finds out." He reprimanded her sternly.

She winked at him. "About that, could you help me make an excuse if he discovers my absence?" When he hesitated, she tapped his shoulder and tiptoed to whisper in his ear. "When I have a heart-to-heart with Narilia later, I'll put in some good words for you."

He gasped in shock and she chuckled. "I know you like her. Come on, you have to help me. I know you love me the most, brother."

Bardumond shook his head helplessly. "What will I do with you?"

"Thank you!" She kissed his cheek and ran off, only stopping when she got to the spot where she first met Dairon.

He was sitting at the shore when she arrived and she sat down gently. The sea was playing a tune and it took a while for her to realize that he was controlling it.

When the song ended, he finally noticed her.

"It's beautiful." She whispered.

He wasn't shocked by her presence so she guessed that he must have felt her presence. "You are beautiful."

He scanned her attire and flashed a smile. "Have you been to the human realm before?"

"Only after learning that you grew up as a human." She blurted out the truth and her jaw dropped. "Why can't I lie in your presence? I meant to say that I like the human realm… you know, to appear cool."

He chuckled. "You don't need to put up an act around me. I already like you as you are."

He stood up and dusted his pants before holding out a hand to help her up. "I want to take you to a place as beautiful as you."

"Where?" She asked curiously.

He kissed the back of her hand when he took it. "The Proconian Isles. It's a coincidence that after meeting you, I also paid a visit to the place you were born and fell in love with it."

While writing this chapter, I listened to Johnny Hallyday's Oh Marie on repeat. It's a very old French song but the rhythm felt just right for the chapter.

The extra chapter will be up in 3 hours.
