Finally knowing what to do, she took the books that Sinos wanted her to read before the following day and was about to leave when a small blue bird flew into the room through the window and landed on her shoulder. It had an envelope held by its beak. She had seen it fly in but she still shrieked when it landed and looked like it was about to peck her neck. She quickly pulled the envelope, thanked the bird and opened it.

Sinos looked on curiously. Why would anyone send her a letter when she was at the academy? When she didn't act like the bird had gotten the wrong recipient, he continued packing up.

"Lord Blaze wants me to have lunch at his castle." She frowned after reading it.

"Do you want to go?" He asked.

She thought about it and sighed. It was not about her wanting to, because the last thing she wanted was to end up being imprisoned even though she knew that was no longer possible. "I'll go. I have to speak to Lord Blaze anyway."

"Well, see you tomorrow." Sinos bid her after confirming that she knew how to get there.

….

Teleportation wasn't any different this time. The strong wind that announced her arrival caused the guards to lose their balance and fall, hitting their backs against the walls of the castle.

She walked to them and helped them up. "I'm sorry. Are you alright?"

"I'm fine." One of the guards flashed a smile, relieved that the intruder was not Dairon. "You must be Demigoddess Jasmine. Lord Blaze is waiting for you."

She pursed her lips. Had he let everyone know that she would be here so they wouldn't let her go in case she chickened out?

She thanked the guards and made her way down the hallways she had dreaded the last time. This time, they didn't feel scary and she was glad that Dairon was yet to take back his powers. Perhaps he had predicted that she would come here and would feel safer if she had them. It was highly likely since one of his elements was time.

She learnt from the butler that Blaze, Lolanthe and Bardumond were having lunch at the garden so she followed his lead to find them.

They all turned to look at her when she arrived.

"Lord Blaze." She greeted with a slight bow, ignored Lolanthe and threw herself into Bardumond's arms as soon as he stood to greet her. "Brother!"

He was relieved that she was not mad at him, having realized how she had treated his parents.

Blaze looked at her in displeasure. "Didn't you call me Father just a few days ago? Why did you revert to honorifics?"

She pulled away from Bardumond and took a seat opposite Blaze and Lolanthe. "It doesn't feel right calling you my father when you only see your daughter through me. It's neither fair to me nor to her."

Blaze looked at her and shut his eyes for a second to alleviate his hurt. "I don't. You got I all wrong."

"Did I?" She crossed her arms.

He nodded at the same time as he held Lolanthe's hand to soothe her. "I rushed to the human realm to take you back because your feather called me. Adopting you was circumstantial." He explained what made her feel slightly relieved. "I felt obliged to do it because you were a fire demigoddess and I knew it from your eyes. I only felt the paternal connection to you later."

She listened to him and let out a breath. "I see."

Blaze sighed in relief when she looked like she believed him. He was glad that he had not lied about anything regarding why he adopted her. He smiled at her as the servants served food onto her plate. "I never took you as a replacement. It's a coincidence that you are so much like her. Before I knew you well enough, I thought fate was making fun of me for the decisions I made in the past."

Convinced, she returned his smile with a gentle one of her own before looking at Lolanthe." What about you, Goddess Lolanthe?"

She looked uncomfortable as she shifted in her seat before she answered her. "I love you as Jasmine."

Jasmine's smile turned into a twitch of her lips in ridicule. "Is that why you wanted to kill my soul so you would use my body to bring Catalyah back to life?"

"What? I…" Lolanthe's discomfort couldn't be hidden anymore. She was shocked. How did Jasmine know?

Knowing what she was thinking, Jasmine smiled. If she didn't have snippets of Dairon's memory, she would never know that Lolanthe had suggested such a thing after claiming to love her not long before that.

Blaze looked just as shocked but it was for a fraction of a second before he regained his composure. He was probably going to interrogate her in private.

Lolanthe looked like she wanted to say something but Jasmine interrupted her.

"I know." She scoffed.

"Jasmine, I'm a mother." Lolanthe sighed. "If I found out that there is something I could do to bring my baby back to life, how could I not want to try it?" She looked at Jasmine pointedly, ignoring her husband's and son's accusatory gazes.

"You are a woman, you can understand."

Jasmine cut up a piece of the meat on her plate and took a bite, appreciating the flavor without looking at Lolanthe. "Nope. You are just selfish. When I died, my mother didn't adopt another girl and try to use her to bring me back."

She finished the rest of her meal in silence and when she was done, she looked up at Blaze. "Thanks for the meal, father. It was delicious."

When she finally teleported to Dairon's Island, the latter was not home. She spent the next hour checking that she had finished making Sinos's clothes and when she ensured that they were good enough, she went to the library with the books that he had given her and read the rest of the day away.

Dairon finally returned in the evening when she was preparing to make him dinner. She got out of the kitchen with a happy smile. "Where were you all day?"

Her eyes landed on his lips and she reflexively looked away, her face starting to flush when she remembered that she had kissed him the day before.

He knew what she was thinking but didn't call her out on it. Instead, he pulled her into a hug and pecked her lips as he answered her. "Doing my demon duties."

She chuckled at his straightforward answer. Was that what he did everyday when they parted ways for her to go to the academy?

She held his neck, shyness leaving her as she asked, "What do demons do anyway?"

He held her waist, joy filling his heart at the fact that she was no longer too reserved around him.

"Making sure the underworld isn't chaotic, trapping a few gods here and there… but I don't do my first role anymore since I fought with Ulke."

She listened with interest. It still seemed like a joke. "So you are trying to trap gods?"

"Only one." He answered as his hand snaked up her back. She had changed into a comfortable short and t-shirt which his hand snaked under.

She shrunk away and pulled his hand out. "Not here."

She evaded the topic before he could ask where he was allowed to feel her up. "Could you take your powers back? I think they went dormant or something for a while and are back now." She spoke.

"Do they bother you?" He asked.

She thought about it but instead of coming up with an answer, she thought back to Sinos's words. How would she know whether or not he was her mate? Was it possible for her to use his powers if he wasn't?

Seeing him staring at her, she nodded slowly even though she was uncertain of what she was nodding about.

He tapped her forehead and she felt his powers leave her.

She smiled. "That feels better."

She thought about their fate and still wasn't certain whether it counted as intertwined. Did the fact that they were both born in the human realm count?

"Jasmine? What are you thinking about?" He chuckled at her absent-minded stare.

Her gaze met his and she pursed her lips as she took a step away from him. "I found my mate. I don't know if I should continue living here."

"Why?" His heart sank.

She took deep breaths to convince herself that this would help her know.

"Hold on. Do you think it's possible for me to return your soul?" She asked the question she knew would definitely shatter his heart. At the same time, she wanted to be certain that whatever she would feel would be her own emotions.
