Jasmine looked at Marina who was deliberately trying to provoke her in ridicule. Did she think she could get her to lose her temper so she could use her reaction against her? Not a chance.
"You're worse off. You can't even afford to be a substitute and can only resort to using your family influence which failed too." She looked down at her like an ant. *I actually pity you, Marina."
"How dare you!" Having been poked at her sore spot, Marina exploded.
Jasmine shook her head at how she expected to achieve whatever she was trying when she was so easily provoked herself. Glancing in Scarlet's direction, she instantly understood what was going on. Scarlet was using Marina as ammunition to attack her. She had another thing coming for her.
For an instance, she felt as though she was suddenly stronger than Scarlet. She instantly knew that it was Dairon's power. She saw the fear in Scarlet's eyes when she glared at her.
"Don't court trouble." She mouthed with an evil smile she knew didn't belong to her. Before the urge to kill Scarlet took over her, she teleported to the academy of demideities.
…
She dusted her clothes when she arrived. She had accidentally made sand fly in her direction when she arrived and some of it had gotten into her hair. She frowned in displeasure. This should have happened when she had that silly contest with Dairon at the beach. Of course, the sand should have flown in Dairon's direction.
"Beautiful Jas! I knew you could do it." Sinos rushed to her excitedly just as she tied her hair that she had undone to get sand out. She glanced at the scepter at her waist which had supported itself there as if her belt was magnetic and the scepter was metallic. She took it off and gave it to Sinos.
"You sound as though you are not the one who gave me the mission." She laughed at his excitement. He looked like a little boy who had just received his favorite candy.
He inspected her scepter to ensure it was the real deal and when he had successfully confirmed its powers, he looked back at her. "Can't I be excited for you?"
He led the way to the training room and placed her scepter on the tablet meant for issuing missions. "You completed the mission three days before the deadline. As a reward, I'll let you make me more clothes."
"You're crazy." She chuckled at his antics, certain that he would have asked her to make him clothes as punishment if she didn't manage to complete it. Was this all so he would get new clothes? "I made you some and forgot to bring them."
He looked like he was one step away from jumping in joy. "I'll drop by the island later and take them."
"And goodness, you look beautiful." He stared at her when she took a seat.
She felt creeped out when she realized that he was almost seeing someone else through her.
"Just like Catalyah, right?" She remarked and his face paled. She burst into laughter. "I'm kidding!"
He sighed in relief but didn't continue to talk about it. "It's been a while. We have to test your combat skills."
"Okay." She stood and grabbed a training sword. He made the furniture disappear and a green carpet appear in its place, which they used as a temporary battleground.
She looked at him as he took his stance. What if she accidentally hurt him using Dairon's powers?
As if she had commanded them to leave, she felt her normal strength return and realized that she had begun getting accustomed to his power. She felt as frail as a flower in comparison but she was reassured.
Sinos struck but just as his sword reached her, it flew out of his hands and pierced into the wall behind her. She turned sharply to look at it. Crap. She had once again forgotten all about that.
He looked just as surprised but he laughed. "While there are no rules in war, I don't recommend you using your mate's powers during practice." He stopped reprimanding her when he realized that he had never heard such a thing as Dairon being an air demigod. He realized why her scepter felt different. "Wait. It's your new element."
She looked at him meaningfully, silently admitting it. "I haven't gotten used to it yet."
"No wonder you look different." He finally understood. As soon as he spoke, he closed in on her with no intention to reach for his sword. "Jasmine, can I tell you something?"
"Okay?" She was confused by his move of getting close all of a sudden.
"Don't tell anyone yet."
She knew he was talking about her new element.
"Dairon already knows." She blinked in uncertainty. Was it wrong to let the others know? But it had only showed up this morning and she accidentally let Dairon know.
Sinos looked at her seriously. "Aside from him. You have too many enemies. There's a reason why only two of your elements showed up at the reveal banquet. It's not a coincidence."

She thought about it deeply. "I thought it's because… of Dairon." Wasn't it because he had given her his powers that her hidden element was unlocked?
"That's the trigger. Not the reason." He stated.
She nodded in understanding. "Makes sense."
"We can try to control it while we spar." He reassured it.
"Forget sparring. It shows up when I teleport and who knows how many times I'll make a fool out of myself?" She frowned.
"Don't think about it." He made it sound easy.
She only ignored it for a few minutes before it slipped into her mind.
"Wait. The pegasus." She muttered.
Sinos glared at her for a second before he knocked her sword our of her hand. "How could you get distracted while sparring with me?"
She swiped a stray strand of hair from her face. "I'm sorry. I couldn't help thinking about him." She steadied and pushed Sinos's sword out of his hand with a force of air.
"Here I was thinking that your fire powers were fatal. I was yet to experience air." He laughed when he realized that she was no simple demigoddess. "What were you saying about that pegasus?" He asked. He had learnt about Phoenix from Dairon when they reconciled and stopped trying to murder each other.
"His element is air. Do you think that could be the reason why I have him?" She realized that it didn't make sense. "Wait. If I have air powers, I don't necessarily need wings. But then again, Catalyah had wings and a pegasus at the same time." She was confused.
Sinos knocked her sword out as soon as she steadied it. "Wasn't he helpful during your mission? At least I hope you didn't opt to fight the waves and cause a fatal raging storm in the human realm when you can fly across the sea."
She shook her head. "My head wouldn't be that thick. Do you mean his purpose was to help with the mission? What about now that I have completed the mission?"
"You can take him as a pet." He joked. Phoenix would never agree to that from the little he knew about the overly arrogant pegasus. "Or you could use him if you ever need him. He will be waiting."
She nodded and silently sparred with him several more times.
By the time they were done, she was tired and sweaty.
"Are you ready to go home?" He asked as they packed up.
She stopped what she was doing and turned to him. "Actually, I have a question." He looked at her so she asked, "Aside from me feeling it, how can I be sure that he is my mate? If it feels the same way as falling in love, isn't it possible to fall in love with a male who isn't actually my mate?"
He studied her expression. "Are you doubting him?"
She didn't answer him and he knew that she was not intending to share any details with him.
"There isn't a foolproof way to know. It all depends on your mate but if your question is limited to Dairon, I wouldn't know much."
She sighed. "Catalyah only knew from the scepter of water. She didn't ever express certainty. At least not from the memories I know. All I know is that she felt complete after meeting him. But isn't that what you would feel after meeting a very close friend?"
He was certain that she was asking to know about her own feelings. "If you don't trust the strong feeling of completion, there are two ways to find out."
"Okay." She probed for him to tell her.
He thought about it seriously. "One, try doing something that would hurt them. If you feel the same amount of pain, they're your mate."
She rolled her eyes. "Don't be an idiot."
He chuckled, knowing that she would never deliberately hurt Dairon so he moved to the next suggestion. "Two, your fate is intertwined. Think about it."
