Tinnon didn't intend to stay for too long. When he told her that he wanted to go back to the human realm before anyone noticed her absence, she clung to him stubbornly.

"Let me come with you." She pleaded.

He looked down at her helplessly. He had always given her everything she asked for but wasn't this too much?

"Alaya…" He tried to pry her hands off his wrist, only for her eyes to water. His heart broke.

He knew that she was being dramatic and it could be actual water since that was her element but the last thing he could stand was her tears.

"Please. I'm not in the slightest bit useful in the realm of immortals anyway.." She bit her lip as if she would throw a tantrum if he said no, even while knowing that she was being childish. This was the only sure way to get her way with Tinnon.

He looked at her helplessly. "The human realm is not safe for a water goddess."

"I'm not nearly as delicate as I seem. Besides, didn't you say that humans are friendly? Why would they harm me?" She insistently argued.

"They are friendly to their own kind. However, they are scared of the unknown. They are yet to know that gods exist so although we are there on a mission, we pretend to be humans so they don't freak out." He tried to talk her out of it. "You certainly don't want to know their reaction to the existence of demons."

She thought about it and rubbed her chin. "I can do that too. I can disguise myself as a human."

Tinnon contemplated for a while. "That's not difficult. But what if something happened and you reflexively showed your wings? It would be over."

The present.

Jasmine looked at Alaya who had suddenly paused halfway through narrating what had happened in the past. "So, did you go?" She asked, even though the fact that Dairon existed made it obvious that she went.

Alaya ate a piece of her cheesecake. "I did. I sealed my wings away to make sure they didn't ever show up. Humans look a lot like deities so all I had to do was try to fit it. It wasn't too hard of a feat."

Although she already knew what was coming, she continued listening. It was awkward to hear Alaya recount her past when she knew that the other had been deceived all her life.

A light smile lit up Alaya's face and she popped a grape into her mouth to stop it. "Tinnon had to go to Monten for his mission but I stayed back to explore the beautiful Cannon Islands. That's where I met Farren. He was handsome and dreamy, and friendly. I didn't know what I wanted my mate to be like but when I met him, I knew what love felt like."

She skipped most of the details and let out a long, sad sigh. "I didn't tell him who I really was. At first, it was because I was worried that he would be scared of me if he learnt that I'm a goddess. But later, I felt it was already too late to let him know. What if he left me?" She sighed. "When I was certain that he wouldn't, it was already too late. Everything happened too fast for me to tell him anything. I had to go back to the realm of immortals when my parents learnt about my absence and that's when everything went downhill."

She fought away the tears she didn't know she was still capable of shedding. "I was pregnant. I didn't see him again. I hope my parents didn't manage to get to him but then again, he was a human. He would already be dead even if my parents didn't get to him."

Jasmine felt horrible. Was it unfair that she was holding back such important information about her mate?

She sipped on her flower tea and convinced herself that even if anyone was to tell Alaya the truth, it should either be Dairon or his father. From his description of the demon who deceived Alaya, he should still be alive somewhere.

"Do you think I was dumb?" She looked at Jasmine. "I knew that it was against the rules of the realm of immortals to get into such close contact with mortals but not only did I make innumerable friends, but my lover was also a man."

Jasmine felt awkward from her tone. "I only know a little about the rules but you did break them." She chuckled dryly. "If it makes you feel any better, you are not the only one who did."

Alaya looked at her and instantly understood. She had heard of Jasmine having lived in the human realm for years, she would definitely have made countless human friends.

Jasmine stabbed her fork into her cake. "My best friend was a woman." She confessed. "I think the rules should be changed some time soon. Most of them don't make any sense."

"Truer words have never been said." Alaya had to admit.

"How did you meet Dairon anyway?" She asked. "You don't strike me as the kind of goddess to like a water demigod. Besides, you are a fire demigoddess and you must have heard about the feud between us and them."

"Dairon and I…" She blushed slightly, taking note of the fact that she was just about to discuss her mate with his mother. Alaya didn't make her feel uncomfortable so she gathered her words. "We uhm… met at Clarepar Sea. My best friend and I were on a cruise trip while he was out for a swim. He used his water-controlling abilities to tease me and get my attention."

She didn't give all the details because the last thing she wanted to tell his mother was that her son had kidnapped her and trapped her on his island as soon as they met. Although she was no longer mad at him for it and loved him now, it was not the best kind of thing to reveal while trying to help them reconcile.

"That sounds romantic." Alaya looked like she wanted to hear more of their love story.

The duo continued chatting about random topics, most of which somehow morphed back to Dairon.

"When he was little, I would use the sea to play him a lullaby when he couldn't sleep. I didn't get to see him in person but I could feel him. He was the loveliest little demigod."

Jasmine had never seen the little Dairon in person either but she was certain that he was lovely.

"There he is." She suddenly spoke up.

Alaya turned to see Dairon standing behind her. Her heart swelled in happiness. She had not expected him to come. She was certain that he had returned only because he missed Jasmine but that didn't stop her from feeling overjoyed.

She stood and turned around to face him. "I should probably get going."

"Why? You can stay." Jasmine spoke up before she could walk away.

"I have something else to do before sunset. It was night having this tea party with you." She insisted on leaving. While Dairon didn't seem to mind her presence too much, she knew better than to push the limit of his patience.

"Then I'll see you off." Jasmine offered.

Alaya nodded and led the way. Brushing past Dairon, she had the intense urge to hold him in her arms. She resisted it but couldn't help taking his hand briefly. "Goodbye."

He didn't say a word but when she was behind him, she turned around longingly and mentally added, "I hope to see you again soon, son."

Jasmine was just about to brush past him when he grabbed her arm.

"I'll be back in a minute. You won't even realize I was gone." She promised with a soft kiss on his cheek. He looked displeased but grunted in approval.

She quickly joined Alaya and only spoke when they were out of earshot. "Way to go, Goddess Alaya. He will definitely be bothered if he thinks you are avoiding him."

She was slightly surprised. "That's not what I was going for but it would be great if it worked. Thank you, Jasmine."

"You don't need to thank me. I'm doing it for him." She confessed. She didn't know how it felt like to grow up without one's parents but she was certain that it felt great to have a caring mother. Besides, he longed for it.

"I still need to thank you. I'm glad my son found someone loving to spend the rest of his life with." She was joyful when she left the island this time, unlike the other times when she would be heartbroken.

After seeing Alaya off, she finally returned to her displeased mate who had to wait for her.

"Did you wait for too long?" She asked when she got back to the gazebo.

Instead of saying a word, he pulled her into his arms, holding rightly as if he was afraid of losing her.
