She pulled herself away slightly and ran her fingers along his stubble. "Is everything okay?"
He gazed at her deeply and took her hand to lead her away.
"Are you alright?" She asked again as he dragged her away. He was walking so fast that she almost couldn't keep up with his speed. She tried to slow him down but he only stopped when they arrived in his room.
He pulled her in for another hug and held her tightly in his arms. He sighed with a sense of loss before finally letting her go. She couldn't stop confusion from clouding her mind.
"Why didn't you tell me that Rian chose you as his apprentice?" He asked. When she looked up and met his eyes, she found that they were filled with anger. So he was hugging her so he would be able to control himself.. Why was he so infuriated?
She was speechless for a moment. What even made him think that she had accepted to be King Rian's apprentice? She gathered her wits and frowned. "Did he? I'm just his trainee. I said no such thing as agreeing to being his apprentice."
"It makes no difference. He is going to use it to force you." He sounded certain about it, and it made her wonder whether King Rian had done such a thing before. He couldn't have earned an untrustworthy reputation without doing anything wrong.
"I should prepare for the worst then." She gritted her teeth when she felt yet another chill in the pits of her stomach. It was Catalyah's fear. Why did she feel it each time she thought about King Rian? Just what did he do to her?
"Is anything wrong? Jas?" He gave her shoulders a slight push when she didn't respond for a while.
"I don't know why I've been feeling this way." She muttered as she tried to explain it. "It's as if I'm afraid of something but I know it's not my own fear. It's Catalyah's."
"I see." He didn't look nearly as shocked as she expected him to be. She had thought he would look at her like she was hallucinating but to her surprise, he looked like he understood what was going on.
"Narilia forced Catalyah's memories into your head." He explained.
"You told me that." She didn't want to think about it. What were they going to do to her? Would she die to make way for Catalyah's return? It would have been unfair especially to her family. Luckily, Dairon had stopped it from happening.
"But I don't have Catalyah's memories playing in my mind anymore. I only remember a few things."
"What you are feeling is an effect of the incomplete spell." He lied. The truth was that Narilia had almost taken it to the last step when he stopped her. If he was even a millisecond late, she would have succeeded making Jasmine think she was Catalyah.
He felt her forehead and tried to figure out why the effects were still there when he had stopped the spell midway.
She slapped her forehead when she thought of all the rules that King Rian expected her to follow, most of which he was probably going to use to force her into doing things she didn't want to do.
"If it were up to me, I would prefer it if we went to the human realm." She sighed, looking at him meaningfully. His attention went back to her and he stared as if she was saying something impossible.
"A demigoddess and a daemon in the human realm? Are you trying to scare the crap out of humans?" He asked her with a hint of mischief in his tone. He must enjoy the thought of scaring humans out of their own realm. How naughty.
She was serious about it. She paced as a plausible plan fell into place. "We could disguise as humans or live in an inhabited city. How peaceful that would be."
She stopped when she remembered something. "Wait. The house you grew up in is still uninhabited. We could give it a makeover and turn it into a place we would enjoy living in. The whole neighbourhood has no one living in it so we could take it and claim it as ours."
He stopped joking around when he realized how serious she sounded. He didn't like the fact that they had to deal with King Rian's crap either so he nodded in agreement. "We can do that."
"Yes." She was glad that he had agreed so she started thinking about how to make their escape. If they simply teleported, King Rian might be able to catch them by tracing their powers.
"How about we leave tomorrow? We can spend the night planning it out." He suggested.

She stopped in the middle of the room and slumped onto the bed.
"We should go, but we can't leave unless some things are in place?" Her voice lowered.
"What things?" He sat beside her and tried to figure out what she could be talking about. "You couldn't possibly be worried about your training, right? You do not need your demigoddess powers in the human realm. It's quite the contrary; we need to seal our powers permanently to make sure they will never be revealed while we live in the human realm."
"It's not about that." She interrupted him before he could give her another reason why she shouldn't be worried.
"There is something wrong with King Rian. Think about apprentices. Catalyah, Scarlet and then me." She pointed out.
"What about them?" He asked. He had tried to think about it but there was nothing off no matter what perspective he tried to see it from. All he could conclude was that King Rian was a power hungry god who didn't mind using other deities to fulfil his selfish desires.
Jasmine ticked the three names off using the fingers of her right hand. "If he needs so many apprentices, why didn't he try to get another one for so many years?"
Dairon listened to her analyze it.
"I'm sure he will claim that he didn't ever find someone as good as his Catalyah but… forget about Scarlet. Why me? I'm nothing like Catalyah and Scarlet. Sure, I look a lot like Catalyah but aside from that, she is everything I'm not."
She looked into the distance as she tried to make sense of it. She couldn't make any, so she turned to him. "I know you don't like this topic but…could you answer one question?" She asked hesitantly.
"Go ahead." He listened.
She was relieved that he didn't find it awkward to talk about her. She let go of her fingers that she was gripping so tightly that they were starting to sting. "Did Catalyah ever want to be the queen of the realm of immortals?" She asked.
"For all the bad reasons, yes." He responded.
That was different from what she thought. She had expected his answer to be negative because from Catalyah's memories, she didn't seem to like any of the missions that King Rian made her do. Of course, the selfish god made it a point to remind her every few days that she was the future queen of immortals and couldn't afford to have any weakness.
She was taken aback by the fact that Catalyah still wanted to succeed him nonetheless.
"What bad reasons?" She asked when she recalled the one Dairon had mentioned before. "Did she really want to overthrow King Rian?"
He seemed to be in deep thought about it. He rubbed his chin with his forefinger for a while before he nodded. "It depends on how you want to think of it."
"How?" She listened with interest.
"She hated that most of his stupid rules made her do things she didn't want to do." He explained. "Her desire to be the queen was only derived from what she wanted to do with the authority she would gain. She wanted to make sure there was peace among all the realms. As crazy as it sounded, it was not just because she cared about every being, but also for a selfish reason. She was adventurous and wanted to have the right to explore whichever realm she wanted. Besides…"
" Besides what?" From his tone, he knew that it was an important point so she listened keenly.
"Catalyah had the ability to see the future even though time was not her element. She foresaw that Narilia would become a demoness. She did not know how her sister would turn out that way but she wanted to bend the rules so they wouldn't be separated."
Jasmine found it odd in every way. So, King Rian's granddaughter had such a thing in mind. It made sense. She wouldn't stop herself from doing it either if there was anything standing in her way to be with Dahlia.
"That makes it even more odd." She frowned. "Both of his apprentices have something to do with Catalyah. One is her enemy while the other is her lover's new mate. Is it a coincidence?"
