"That's a wild thought." She chewed the inside of her cheek.

Shit.

Didn't the time reversal erase the memory of the demon bite from Bardumond's mind? How could he remember it? She knew that he would be more suspicious if she changed the topic so she asked, "What makes you think I was bitten by a demon?"

He pointed at her neck. "It's not completely healed. The asshole must have bitten you and made it heal himself so no one would ever know. I can't find out who it is because the wound is closed." He explained, much to her relief.

He looked at her in surprise and she knew it was because she had sighed in relief even though she had been bitten.

"If it's healed, it cannot affect me anymore, right?" She made an excuse for her reaction.

"Luckily, it cannot." He moved on from the topic but ended up adding another ingredient to her herbal juice. When she looked at him like she was about to complain, he explained, "The demon might have bitten you simply because you seemed appealing to him. This will dull whatever attracted him to you so he doesn't notice. Don't worry, it will not change anything about you."

She had the urge to laugh. Would it work on Dairon? She was aware of his urge to bite her which he had been fighting. She doubted anything could dull it but if it did, she would be relieved. She hated that he had to hold it in just because he didn't have a tail.

Bardumond stared at her like he was controlling himself from doing something.

"What is it?" She asked.

"I want to strangle that demon. If I ever catch him, I will chop his tail off, roast it and forcefully feed it to him." He swore. Luckily, Dairon didn't have a tail.

"That's not why I asked about King Rian." She dragged his attention back to the topic that brought her here.

"What do you want to know about him?" He looked at her curiously.

"Does he have a mate?" She asked.

"None that I know of. He has been on his own as far as my memory goes." He answered as though he wanted to end the topic and block off any more questions from her.

That made her even more certain that he knew something that could be of use.

"What about Goddess Lolanthe's mother?" She probed.

As expected, he shook his head. "That's not for me to tell you."

Before he could change the topic, she grabbed his arm and looked up at him cutely. "Not even for your little sister? Please, brother…" She coaxed, not giving him the chance to say no before batting her eyelids adorably. "You always say that you love me."

"What will I do with you?" He was helpless.

She knew that she had convinced him and she inwardly cheered. She would have to thank Dahlia for her tips at acting cute. If the little girl wanted anything, one either had to give in to her or have their heart melted into giving in to her.

She didn't wait for Bardumond to realize what he had just said yes to, and cupped her face in her hands, propping her elbows on her knees as if she was waiting for story time.

He sighed when his last attempt at making her forget failed. "Mother's mother was a demoness."

Her eyes widened as her hands dropped from her chin. She was not sure what she had expected to hear but it was definitely not that.

She took a while processing it. "Okay… that was unexpected."

"That's why I didn't want to tell you." He ran a hand through his messy hair.

"Why?" She did not understand.

"Now you are going to ask a gazillion more questions which I never thought I would have to answer.

"Don't be like that, brother. Tell me more." She coaxed.

"King Rian had just become the king of the realm of immortals when he met the princess of the underworld."

"The daughter of Ulke?" She asked in shock. That didn't sound right.

"No. The underworld was ruled by a different king at the time, Asnar. Ulke was still a newborn demon." He explained, much to her relief. She still felt uncomfortable at the thought of marriage that would be considered incestuous in the human realm and the thought that she could be potentially related to Ulke, even if it were by adoption, was nauseating.

"Her name was Delaney. He knew that she was a demoness right of the bat but got together with her anyway. They had Goddess Lolanthe before getting married and didn't get to marry before she died."

Jasmine felt the only hope in her vanish. She was hoping they could use his mate against him but since she was already dead, all that was left was curiosity.

"How come Goddess Lolanthe is not a demoness when her mother was one? There is not an ounce of demon blood in her." She observed. Dairon would have known if she was half demoness.

"About that." Bardumond cleared his throat. "King Rian didn't actually love Delaney. I will never be sure why they got together but she became his only destined mate when it happened. As a result, he disliked her and hated all demons along with her. There are other reasons for his hatred towards demons but this is why he hated Delaney.

When it was discovered that the daughter she was carrying could be half demoness, he made an irrevocable exchange. His daughter would be a purebred goddess but in exchange, Delaney would die as soon as she gave birth."

"And here I was thinking that I had learnt the most heartless side of King Rian." She slapped her forehead. Was his daughter's identity more important than her receiving all the love she needed from her mother?

It was slowly starting to make sense why demons hated gods so much. If she were in Asnar's shoes, she would never let off the god that killed the princess either. The least she could do would be peeling off each layer of his skin.

She was curious about how Lolanthe grew up since she had no mother and a scumbag for a father but time was running out. Blaze and Lolanthe would be back soon and there was still something she needed to know.

"Was Delaney ever reincarnated?" She asked.

"Demons do not reincarnate, Jasmine." He told her the news that became a bummer when she thought of Dairon.

"Why?"

"It's just a rule of the underworld. If a demon dies, they are meant to be forgotten. Just like deities. Only a few are remembered and there has to be a good reason to keep their soul."

Since he had heard about Delaney, that meant her soul had been kept. Now that she thought about it, it was a relief that she was not reincarnated. She would have forgotten everything in her next incarnation.

"I should get back." She announced.

"That's it? You only sought me to discuss dead demonesses?" He complained.

She laughed. "I did ask about plants but you made me cut my crap." She wanted to tell him that Narilia would be back soon and he could finally have his mate back, but it would be better if he got a pleasant surprise so she hugged him.

"I don't want to have to face Goddess Lolanthe." She confessed.

"I know you are still uncomfortable because of the fact that she tried to make you Catalyah, but sis, she is not the kind of goddess to harm others unnecessarily." He said.

"So, are you saying that it was necessary to harm my family by taking me away?" She asked defensively.

"That's not what I mean. What I mean is, it was a momentary lapse in sanity. Is there anything you would not do if it were to save Dairon's or Dahlia's life?"

She remained silent so he pushed. "Or if Sophie or Harry were in danger. Is there anything you wouldn't do to save him?"

"I would do anything. But that would not make anything wrong that I do right. I would still face punishment from the law if I did anything wrong so, I believe that I have the right to not forgive Goddess Lolanthe if I don't find sincerity in her words."

She opened the door and walked out of his room before he could get the chance to convince her.

She bumped into Blaze on her way out.

"Jasmine?" He was excited to see her. "I didn't know you were coming over."

"Good afternoon, father." She felt disappointed, having wanted to slip away unnoticed. Her eyes met with Lolanthe's and the latter's looked down sadly.

"My afternoon just got better! Why don't you stay for a cup of tea?" He joyously invited her. "You can make the tea with your mother. She has been wanting to learn how to do it the human realm way." He created a chance for her to interact with Lolanthe.

She felt uncomfortable at the thought. Everyone was urging her to make up with Lolanthe.

Was she being unreasonable by not wanting to?
