The next day, Jasmine put up a nonchalant act as though she had not discovered something outrageous. It was hard not to set King Rian ablaze when she met him in the morning.

He had decided to resume his duty as her trainer—and she was now certain of the reason why he chose her as a trainee. He was trying to use her. Fat chance.

She was not just angry with him for what he was trying to do to her but for what he did to Catalyah as well. Even though she hated to feel it, it was also unfair for Scarlet since she was just a little goddess back then. She didn't deserve to have her powers stolen from her.

"I will send you to the underworld if you continue spacing out." King Rian threatened her.

"I'm sorry." She lied and tried to focus on whatever he had been jabbering on about for the last half hour.

He studied her while putting up a caring facade but she could see right through him. He was planning something evil. She could see it coming, and she swallowed when he opened his mouth.

"If you have read all the books I assigned you to read—which I hope you were not too lazy to complete—you will realize that you have broken at least a dozen rules since you came to the realm of immortals."

"I'm sure they are not that many?" She laughed dryly.

"Yes they are." His voice turned stern. "And you should be thankful that I decided not to punish you for them."

Thanks, I guess? She thought in her mind, but knew better than to be relieved around this cunning fox.

He took a step closer to her and lowered his voice as if not trusting that the walls were soundproof. "That does not mean you will not learn your lessons. I have every intention of teaching you what is wrong and what is right."

"What do I have to do?" She placed her left hand over her right one, which stung with an urge to set the god before her ablaze.

"First, tell me the progress of your mission." He demanded.

She swallowed. This was it. "Ulke does not have a child." She lied.

"He does." He smirked, probably inwardly laughing at her naivety.

She was never going to admit that she knew Dairon's true identity no matter what happened.

The thought was yet to settle in her mind when she heard his daunting remark.

"He is quite close to you. Maybe that will make it easier for you to settle him because who knows? He could be the most fatal danger to the Realm of Immortals."

Why? She wondered why he thought so, but she did not ask. That was probably something Ulke had said in desperation to get his son killed.

"I will try my best." She lied.

He was not satisfied with her answer but he kept himself from blowing up at her. "That is not good enough, my dear. You have to make sure he is no longer alive before the next full moon."

What would happen if Dairon was alive during the next full moon? She had no idea but she nodded, intending to ask about it later.

She hurried out of the training room as soon as King Rian let her. It was difficult to have to hold in her emotions around him. She didn't have that much self control, so she was not shocked to find burn marks on her palms when she looked at them.

"You will need a jameela ointment for that." Came a familiar voice that almost made her jump out of her skin.

"Bardumond, you scared me!" She patted her chest and looked to make sure there was no one listening in on them. The hallways were empty with just the two of them, and she glared at him. "You can't just materialize out of thin air!"

"Sorry." He rubbed his hair, obviously not sorry. "I am a god, and that's how we go places. It's nice to finally meet you, sis. If I didn't know how much you love me, I would start to think you are avoiding me."

She was guarding her mate's secret and Bardumond was the biggest threat to Dairon even though he didn't know it. Of course she would avoid him.

She flashed him a smile. "I would never avoid my brother." Their brief hug didn't seem to convince him.

Her neck stung at the spot where Dairon had bitten her before, making her curse under her breath. Bardumond could not be underestimated.

"Do you need anything, brother? I need to get going." She tried not to sound too desperate for him to leave.

"Lord Blaze invited you and Dairon for dinner. That's what I was going to tell you."

She was taken aback by his words and it took a while to pick her dropped jaw and gather her senses. She continued staring at the god before her. "You mean to say that Lord Blaze invited me to dinner, right? Are you slotting in Dairon's name because you are afraid that it would be awkward for me to go without him?"

"Your imagination is wild but no. He actually said that he wanted to dine with both of you. So did mother."

The mention of Lolanthe dulled her eyes. He was quick to notice it, which he brushed aside with details about the dinner.

"He will be happy to see both of you."

She forced a smile and hoped that if Dairon agreed to go, he would not cause a storm and strike Blaze with lightning again.

"I will tell him about it." She promised.

The two of them walked out of the academy side by side, and they were silent until Bardumond spoke.

"If you are looking for his weakness, it's not going to be easy to find it. But I do know something that will terrify the living daylights out of him."

"What are you talking about?" She frowned in confusion at the sudden topic that she could barely understand.

"King Rian." Bardumond pointed with his chin back to the academy building, signifying where King Rian was a few moments ago.

She looked at the building then back at him. They had already found that his weakness was Scarlet, but she didn't mind hearing what Bardumond had to say about it. She looked at him curiously.

His eyes narrowed evilly. "Catalyah."

"What?"

"I know for a fact that he has been pretending for ages, making everyone think that he loved her, but he didn't. He was afraid that she would take his place." He explained convincingly.

"But she is…" She didn't want to say aloud the word that would hurt him, but he knew what she meant and he nodded.

"Then how can I use her to scare him? Bring Catalyah back to life and let her confront him?" She was being sarcastic, but he nodded in approval.

"You can do that. You don't actually have to do it. You just have to make him believe it." He urged.

She laughed in disbelief when she finally wrapped her mind around his suggestion.. "You want me to pretend to be Catalyah."
