A few days later at the academy, Scarlet glanced at Jasmine awkwardly. The latter had attended her class and nothing could possibly be more difficult than teaching one's own master.

Her new discovery made her legs weigh more than lead and what made it worse was the fact that she had diminished Jasmine before. Not to mention, she had pushed her to death in her previous life. Every time her gaze met Jasmine's, she wondered whether the latter still remembered it and if she kept a grudge.

On the other hand, Jasmine couldn't be bothered with what Scarlet was thinking since her own mind was all over. place. It was already hard enough to focus on anything when she didn't know where Dairon was. He had left the island the day after Terra's wedding banquet without telling a single soul. No one knew where he was and she couldn't help thinking of awful possibilities. Had he been caught? Did he have to escape to the underworld?

A paper plane landed on her hand that was on the table. Knowing that it had to be a note, she checked it out and sure enough, it was from Xarz. The little god wanted her to focus more on what Scarlet was teaching because apparently, it might save her life if a recurrence of eight hundred years ago happened.

She smiled, nodded to Xarz to confirm receipt of the message and put aside the paper plane to listen to Scarlet.

"Why would a deity self-destruct by saving their own life?" Harlyn asked in response to something Scarlet had said. Jasmine couldn't make head or tail of it but she realized that the answer to that might be important.

"That's because there is a limit to one's abilities even with the most power. Provocation makes you blind to repercussions."

Her brows rose slightly. That would work.

'Thanks for the brilliant idea, Scarlet.' She thought in her mind when she realized that King Rian was easier to provoke than any immortal. If they couldn't kill him by stripping his power, they could make him destroy himself.

She felt a numb sting on her back and winced. It lasted only a few seconds but it made her heart race faster and by the time the dizziness faded, Scarlet was talking about the topic she dreaded.

"On that note, it has been discovered that there are demons among us. We have to drag them out."

Her gaze was on Jasmine as she emphasized, "King Rian's words. Whoever reveals a demon to him will be granted their heart's greatest desire."

Jasmine battled to maintain a nonchalant facade. Dairon's life would be in danger if anyone caught wind of his identity. As soon as the session ended, she was first to leave the room. Scarlet blocked her path.

"What do you want, Scarlet?" She nearly snapped in annoyance.

Scarlet made sure everyone had left before pulling Jasmine aside to speak to her. "I hope you don't mind me calling you by your name in the presence of other deities. I wasn't certain whether you wanted them to know that you are my master."

"It's alright." She turned to leave, in a hurry because she was scared Scarlet would read between the lines.

"What should I call you then?" The goddess followed to ask, to which Jasmine gave a nonchalant response. "Whatever makes you comfortable."

She teleported away before Scarlet could say anything else, rendering the goddess confused. What was that about?

"Are you friends with that skank?" Marina scoffed. Scarlet had not seen her arrive.

"Oh, hey Marina." She was uncomfortable.

"I want to kill her every time I see her." Marina growled out the usual words she said whenever she saw Jasmine. However, this time, Scarlet wanted to rip her apart for saying them. She calmed herself down and dismissed Marina. "I'm busy right now. Do you need anything? If not, I'll go about my business."

In case Bardumond had an idea where Dairon could be, Jasmine sought him out. It turned out that he was expecting her.

"Are you looking for Dairon too?" He asked when she was shown to his private garden where he was taking a nap in the gazebo.

She sat across the table from him with a confused expression. "What do you mean, "too"? Who else is looking for him?"

He sat up. "I am."

"What?" It took her a moment to comprehend what would happen if Bardumond found him. "Why, brother? For more power? For wealth?"

He ran a hand down his face. "That's not why I want to turn him in."

"Then why?" She demanded to know.

"Because he is a potential danger." He bit out, and cut her off before she could argue. "I know this hurts you, Jasmine, but they are causing us harm. They should go back to where they belong."

"Dairon is only half demon. He would get killed if he were to go to the underworld." She looked at him pleadingly. "Besides, we don't know for sure that King Rian will send the demons off to the underworld. What if all he wants is to kill him? He did nothing to deserve any of the outcomes!"

Bardumond didn't know whether she was that gullible or just blinded by love. "Do you realize that his innocence has not been proven? He could be a victim, but he could also be a culprit in hiding. He could hurt anyone including you, and don't forget that this happened as soon as I found out his identity. It could be retaliation."

"I disagree with you. Ulke has a hand in this. Are you going to help the king of the underworld in his schemes?" She raised her voice in frustration. "Don't forget the fact that he has been hiding his identity as a half demon for an entire millennium and more. If he wanted to harm anyone, wouldn't he have done it already?"

Bardumond was no longer listening to her. She knew from his puzzled expression that his concentration had lapsed, but she was still shocked when he shouted out Narilia's name.

She snapped her fingers before his eyes to call for his attention. "Is everything okay?"

"It's nothing. I thought I saw Narilia. It's probably an illusion."

Was it a coincidence? She wondered. Narilia had been at the banquet. She wondered whether Bardumond could really have seen her. She would definitely know where Dairon was. Thinking about it briefly, she decided against the possibility. Narilia couldn't appear at her former home as a demoness.

She pressed her lips together and stood to leave, turning down Bardumond when he offered her a cup of tea. "Could you do me a favor and let me know if you find Dairon, before turning him in?" She asked and walked away faster than he could respond. She took a turn in a rush and bumped into Lolanthe, making her wish she didn't come. She had just ended a conversation she didn't want to ever have again and not even two minutes later, she would have to talk to the goddess she least wanted to see?

"Are you alright, Jasmine?" Asked Lolanthe, holding Jasmine to steady her even though the latter had not tripped.

"Since when do you care about me?" Came Jasmine's cold response.

"Since… Never mind." Lolanthe pulled her back before she could walk away. "I have something important to tell you. Could you spare a minute and meet me in my room?"

She wanted to say no but it was too late as the goddess had chosen to fly away. Just great. She battled between leaving and going to Lolanthe's room. What was Lolanthe trying to do? She could ignore her, but there was a chance that it was related to Dairon. Hence, she went to Lolanthe's room and hoped the goddess was not going to try anything she shouldn't.

"You came." Lolanthe was pleasantly surprised when Jasmine opened the door. She had her back facing the door but she would recognize Jasmine's footsteps from miles away.

"You said it was important." Jasmine left the door slightly open and only took one step away from it.

Lolanthe ignored her show of distrust and closed in instead. "You must have heard the announcement. Everyone is looking for demons now all over the Srovian Mountains and Norlan Islands." Lolanthe started.

"I know that."

"Well, I think it's a farce. King Rian owns a power detector. He could get them using his own effort and he probably will." She continued.

"Okay?" Jasmine still couldn't understand where she was getting with this.

This was the hard part, so Lolanthe shut the door in case anyone overheard them. They were this far into the castle and the possibility was minute but one couldn't be entirely certain.

"You have to be careful. You cannot use your powers during this period."

Hearing the very words Dairon had said to her on the day of the banquet, she was puzzled. "Why? I don't have any reason to be scared of revealing my powers. I'm not a demon."

"No you aren't. But you are the reason why the demons are here. They are after you. If they trace your powers to you and get you, well, you can be certain that they will not let you live." She stated seriously.

Jasmine was lost for words. How did she morph from an ordinary fashion designer to a reborn demigoddess whose life was highly sought by demons and gods within what felt like a few heartbeats?

"Does teleportation count?" She asked for fun, but Lolanthe's answer baffled her.

"It would be safer if you used the pegasus to get to places." She picked a black book from the nightstand and held it out. "This will be helpful to you."

As soon as Jasmine took it, a wave of familiarity hit her. She opened it on the spot and gasped. "I wrote this in my first life. To think it would potentially help me now."

"You did?" It was Lolanthe's turn to be shocked.

"I think so?" She put it in her satchel. "Thank you. I'll get going."

"Jasmine," She called as the latter opened the door.

"Not now, Goddess Lolanthe." She knew that Lolanthe was about to start the topic that made them both uncomfortable and she was not ready to have that kind of conversation now.

Lolanthe watched her leave with a smile that quickly morphed into confusion once she thought back to Jasmine's words about the book.

That black book had been in the castle's library since at least two thousand years ago and the first time she saw it, her daughters were scribbling into it. Why did Jasmine claim to have written it in her past life?

Her mouth gaped when she connected her recent behavior into a possibility. Was she possessed by Catalyah?
