Lolanthe was not the only one who was wondering whether Jasmine had been possessed by Catalyah. King Rian couldn't get it out of his head either.
"First, she calls me grandpa in the exact annoying tone Catalyah would use, then she does something Catalyah would never do." He paced his chambers restlessly as he explained everything to Ulke. "Do you think she could actually be Catalyah? Maybe with just a different attitude?"
"Certainly not." Responded the demon. It was not the first time for King Rian to have this kind of suspicion but Ulke's response was the same nonetheless. There was no way Catalyah could be alive at this kind of time. Even if she were to be reborn, he would have to allow it and the last thing he wanted was for the goddess with the power to end him to be alive.
King Rian was calmer after getting reassurance. "Either way, Jasmine is a menace."
"I couldn't agree more." He made his way to the comfortable couch and flopped down. "My son was willing to give her his soul after just meeting, and she just happens to have the same appearance as his past mate. I mean, what are the odds?" He rubbed his chin. He had tried to pin the pieces together and no matter what, he couldn't find any reason for Dairon to be so entangled with a demigoddess aside from the fact that they were both raised in the human realm.
"Do you think she knows where he is?" King Rian asked, even though the possibility was quite low. "Logically, she should know. But does she?"
"She wouldn't be running around like a restless ghost if she knew." He wanted to laugh out aloud and use the chance to end her life but that would be no fun.
"I bet he is in the human realm." Ulke added. "That's where his mother is. Even if he isn't there, I'd still place my jewels on her going to the human realm in hope that she will find him there."
King Rian stopped pacing with realization settling on his face. "That, right there is an opportunity that doesn't appear twice in the same millennium."
"What do you want to do?" Ulke feigned nonchalance when in reality, his only reason for coming today was to get a rise out of King Rian and instigate him. The god thought they were in for mutual benefit when in real sense, their goals were miles different.
The unsuspecting god gave his answer in detail. "Of course, I'm going to let Jasmine go to the human realm. Everyone knows that is against the rules and as soon as she is caught with evidence, she will be convicted and banished from the realm of immortals. No one will care about her anymore and that will make it easier to end her." He looked satisfied with his idea only for the demon to yawn.
"Boring. You have to make sure there is zero chance for her to be reborn." He emphasized. There was little chance for the same immortal to be reborn twice but that didn't make it impossible. And Jasmine had already done enough impossible things.
King Rian couldn't come up with a sure method at the top of his head. "What do you suggest?"
The demon shrugged. "I don't know. You think about it. I'll keep Dairon out of your way but you have to end Jasmine as soon as possible."
Rian took a deep breath. "You forced me to do this, Jasmine." He turned to Ulke after a brief pause. "No matter how I'm going to end her, I know what I should do first. Make her doubt her entire being. Her identity, her past, and her very existence."
____
How to summon a demon. Jasmine read the introduction page on the book Lolanthe had given to her and held back a scoff. How was that going to be of help? She had already tried to summon and not even self-harm had brought him back to her. Nonetheless, she flipped the pages to check out the content. The more she read, the more uncertain she was. How could she remember writing this book when everything in it was so unfamiliar?
Some of the summoning methods were completely new to her, yet, she could vividly remember herself scribbling into it as a little girl. What made her feel even more confused was the memory of a demon telling her exactly how to summon him. His face was a blur in her memory but she must have been close to him if she took his words to heart and even wrote them down. Maybe the book had been rewritten by someone else, she guessed and decided to try it out.
Disappointment and worry filled her entire being when none of the methods worked. Just where was Dairon?
Shutting the book in frustration, she threw away the incense torches and teleported to Cannon Islands even while knowing that King Rian would not like it.
She had just arrived and was dashing for the Caves of Cannon when a woman stopped her. "Hello, would you happen to have seen a man with deep blue eyes and long silver hair?" Asked the woman, and Jasmine was puzzled.
She snapped out of her shock and asked, "Do you have a picture of him? I wouldn't be so certain."
There weren't many humans on Cannon Islands with blue eyes, let alone those as deep as Dairon's and when the woman stated that she didn't have a picture, Jasmine was even more suspicious. How could one look for their loved one without a picture?
"I see. Is he your brother?" She probed, and the woman nodded. Jasmine raised an eyebrow.
"I think I saw a man with that kind of description but I'd have to confirm a few details with you. What's his name?" She pushed.
"Dairon." Responded the woman, before she quickly pushed Jasmine for an answer. "Where did you see him? Did he tell you anything?"
"Second name." She demanded. As expected, the woman gave her own second name.
Jasmine flashed a smile. "That's not what his identification documents say but maybe you want to take a look at the lost man I found? It could be him or someone who can help you find your brother."
"Thank you, miss, but I'll have the police help me." The woman took a step back. She must have been warned.
Jasmine narrowed her eyes. "Come with me."
And the woman obeyed her. She didn't expect to compel anyone nor did she want to, but this woman must know something. She led her along to the Caves of Cannon and sat her on a stone couch.
"What do you know about Dairon?" She asked, panicked because the compelling spell was starting to fade.
"I know nothing. Only that my husband will be brought back to life if I find the demon called Dairon." The woman revealed, before covering her mouth and wondering why she had just said that.
"I see." She let the woman come back to her senses and patted her shoulder. "I'm sorry you lost your husband. But gods do not have the authority to alter the lives of mortals. Whoever promised you that is lying. You are being used."
The woman couldn't comprehend how Jasmine knew that but she burst into tears. "But he promised me. Maybe he is going to bend the rules for me if I do him this huge favor."
"The repercussions are too harsh." Jasmine wanted to know who the god was but figured she would not get an answer so she dropped it and moved closer to the woman and looked into her eyes to compel her.
"This conversation didn't happen. We didn't meet. Go back home." She spoke softly and turned to leave, only for the woman to grab her hand.
"It was you!"
Jasmine turned in confusion. "Huh?"
"You saved my life before. I never got to thank you." She looked to be on the verge of dropping to her knees.
Jasmine didn't know what she was talking about but she nodded and left. It was hard to find Alaya who was in disguise and when she finally did, Alaya pulled her and teleported them to her house without warning.
"What's going on?"
Alaya pulled off the scarf she had worn to hide her striking different hair. "I'm begging you, help my son!"
