"You may check." Sophie did not flinch.

Sinos squinted his eyes. "Never mind." From her reaction, she must be certain that the result would prove her to be Jasmine's mother. "Who is her father?" He asked.

"How disrespectful of you to barge into my home and ask such impudent questions!" She slammed her palm against the table.

Sinos smiled. "I'll stop asking, then. We can only use our method."

"No, wait!" She stopped them when they stood to leave.

"Do you have something to say?" Sinos turned to ask with a sly smile.

Sophie hesitated for a while before looking at him. "If I tell you, will you give my daughter back? Do you promise to stay away from her and not bother our family anymore?"

"What a smart human, trying to extort me at such a time." He looked amused, while Jasmine looked at her skeptically. "Unfortunately, that's not for me to decide. If she belongs to our realm, we will definitely take her back with us."

"I didn't say I would go with you." Jasmine protested.

"I know what you are thinking, Jasmine. But you have no idea what the consequences will be if we let a demigoddess live in the human realm. Who is to blame if you harmed the human world?" Sinos dropped the bummer.

He was right, she could only sigh in defeat. She had almost hurt Dahlia twice before. What would she do if it happened again?

"It's okay. Once you learn to control your powers, we can visit once in a while." Dairon reassured her.

"Of course, I'm still waiting for answers, human." Sinos reminded Sophie. Her eyes drooped in reluctance, so Sinos turned to leave. "Since that's the case…"

"His name is Blaze." She interrupted.

"Mother!" Jasmine was shocked at the mention of a male name.

"I'm sorry. I never intended to lie to anyone." Sophie sat back on the couch, her face lowered.

"We were going to get married. But a week before our wedding, he disappeared. I went to his house and all I found was a feather. I sought a witch to ask about it and she revealed that it was a demigod's feather." She didn't dare to look at them, especially Jasmine.

"I didn't want anyone to know that I was involved with a deity. I hid the feather away. I would have kept the whole incident a secret, moved to another village and acted like nothing happened, but I was pregnant with the demigod's child. I could only marry in a rush to save my family's reputation."

"Mother," Jasmine looked at her in shock.

Sophie slowly looked up to meet her gaze. "If I knew you would inherit your father's powers…"

"Stop it." Jasmine stood and headed for the door, tapping Dairon's shoulder on her way out. "Let's go."

"Shouldn't you be happy? She is your mother and she did not betray her marriage either. Why are you so mad?" Sinos asked curiously, noticing that Jasmine didn't spare her mother a second glance. He wasn't about to witness some drama of a daughter severing her familial ties with her mother, right?

"Why can't I be mad?" Jasmine shot him a murderous gaze.

"Of course, you can be as mad as you want." He waved his hands and added in a whisper, "Just don't burn anything."

"Dairon, do you know any demigod called Blaze?" Sinos asked when they were on their own.

Dairon frowned. "Isn't Blaze a god?"

"Forget about it." She placed a hand on his shoulder, glancing back at her home in the distance with a bitter smile. "She is lying. My father is Harry Cavendish. She wants to mislead us." She felt furious just thinking about it. "I have always trusted her. I gave her the chance to tell me the truth but she lied to me. How could she?"

"So you do have a brain." Sinos made fun of her, earning a glare from Dairon.

"Let's go to Monten." Dairon instructed.

"Okay, get ready." He opened a portal in front of them.

"Close the portal. We are not teleporting there. Are you trying to attract attention?" She scolded him. They were still in the human world and teleportation was not common here. It would definitely cause panic if three people were to suddenly disappear in broad daylight.

"Calm down, will you?" Sinos was irritated. Why was she taking out her anger on him?

"Let's take public transport. Are there trains in this city?" Dairon asked her, interrupting their fight.

"Yes. The station is nearby." She led the way. They didn't have any human realm money on them but before Jasmine could suggest secretly teleporting to her room, Sinos compelled the staff into giving them first class cabin tickets.

She slapped her forehead. "They are going to make a loss because of us. Do you realize that?" She reprimanded him when they were on their own.

"They are in luck. I will compensate them later." He reclined on the comfortable seat and yawned. "This is the slowest I have ever gone anywhere."

It had only been five minutes, yet he was already complaining? Was whining his special talent?

She ignored him and turned to speak to Dairon instead.

"You said that you have been to Monten before. Is this where you grew up?"

He averted his gaze from the window. "I was merely here for a mission. I accomplished it but fate punished me for it."

She was puzzled. She had read about how deities would be rewarded for their good deeds and punished for their mistakes. From his tone, he was there for a good deed. How come he was punished? "Do you mind telling me about it?" She asked out of curiosity, and to get her mind off the mess that was her life at the moment.

"I learnt from the gods of time that a series of volcanoes was bound to erupt eight years after the last Lunar Symetoch. All the mountains surrounding Monten village would erupt one after another."

"What? All eight of them?" She was terrified just thinking about it. Wouldn't that destroy at least half of the world?

"Yes, and it did happen. My mission was to save the village—and I did. There were no casualties." He stated.

"That's strange. Why were you punished?" It didn't make sense.

"I don't know either." He pulled her to rest her head on his shoulder. "But nothing happens without an explanation."

"You are right." Sinos opened his eyes, making it apparent that he had been listening. "Though it makes me curious. After such a life-threatening incident happened, considering how scaredy humans are, shouldn't all the villagers move out in panic?"

"Many of them did." Dairon replied.

"Then there's Sophie who continued living there for two years and had a daughter. She really isn't simple." Sinos laughed in ridicule then looked at her in speculation. "You were born in Monten. Didn't anyone ever mention the volcano to you?"

"I don't think so." No matter how blurry her memory got, she didn't think she could forget such a horrifying tale.

"We are here." Dairon announced. It had only taken an hour, but Sinos felt as though it had been forever.

"Is everything in the human world so slow? I almost grew old! Though I have to admit that this village is beautiful." He looked around in admiration. It was comparable to the realms of the gods.

"If you want, we could live here." Dairon suggested to Jasmine when he saw her look around in admiration. It was rare to see her so passionate.

"Who is living with you? Shut up if you have nothing good to say." She snapped in embarrassment at his unreserved words.

He smiled at her explosive reaction. "I have something good to say."

"What is it?"

"I love you." He whispered close to her ear, making her look away and want to beat him up. Luckily, Sinos was too busy gushing about the beauty of the village to pay attention to them.

Afraid that Dairon would say something more inappropriate, she quickly led the way to a row of houses

"This is where my grandmother lived." She touched the door and took a deep breath, hoping that her grandmother still lived here. She knocked the wooden door feebly.

"Grandmother, it's me. Jasmine. Are you home?" She exerted a little more strength when she didn't hear movement from the other side.

After knocking for a while, she was about to give up when the neighbor's door opened and a middle-aged woman came out. "Are you looking for the old lady who used to live there?" She looked at them curiously.

"Yes. Do you know where she is?" Jasmine asked.

"You are not her family, are you?" The middle-aged woman scrutinised them suspiciously.

Jasmine shot Sinos a glare before he could speak, stepping forward herself. "I'm her granddaughter."

Soon after she finished speaking, the middle-aged woman returned to her house and slammed the door shut.

"What happened?" Sinos wondered aloud. "Does she think we are swindlers?"

"She needs proof that I'm my grandmother's family." Jasmine muttered and knocked on the middle-aged woman's door. "I am Sophie's daughter. My mother married Harry Cavendish and moved to Efinchil with him. I lived here for a while." She gave all the details she knew out of logic and hoped that the neighbour wouldn't ask for more.

As expected, the door opened. "You are a pretty little girl, Jasmine. I haven't seen you in years, you have become a beautiful woman."

Jasmine smiled in relief. "I have been in Efinchil."

The middle-aged woman warmed up. "Forgive me.. I was shocked that you didn't recognize me. Besides, how can you not know that your grandmother passed away fifteen years ago?"
