Jasmine was in disbelief when she realized that in her memory before, Blaze had stopped the fire that he had set on her as soon as she called him "father". Could it be that the word really worked on him?

Even so, she shook her head at the thought of it. "Calling him means acknowledging his adoption and admitting that I am his daughter. I will not do that in this lifetime nor will I do it in my next incarnation." She looked like she was about to give a solemn vow.

Bardumond could only let it be. "Suit yourself, sister. But if I would get what I want from calling my enemy "father", I would not hesitate, let alone someone who adopted me."

"Then I guess parents don't mean much in the Realm of Immortals, huh." She taunted, knowing that she would never be ready to use that word on anyone who was not Harry.

"It's quite the contrary." Bardumond smiled as he packed the herbs away in what looked like magical leaves before keeping them in his satchel. "I don't remember my own parents anymore but Blaze and Lolanthe have loved me for more than two thousand years. Not only would I kill for them, but I would also give my life for theirs." His gaze softened when he spoke of his adoptive parents. "They were so kind that they offered their daughter—my adoptive sister—to me in marriage. If it isn't because she chose to be with her mate, we would have several little goddesses already."

"Two thousand years?!" Jasmine was so shocked that she failed to notice how odd it was for a brother to think about marrying his sister and having kids with her. Two thousand freaking years?! He didn't look a day older than thirty!

Bardumond thought she was amazed at how long Lolanthe and Blaze had taken care of him. "Yes. If you believe that time strengthens bonds, you will agree with me."

"No, the point here is, how old are you exactly, brother?" She lowered her voice like it was a secret.

"Two thousand, five hundred and ninety nine. Why?" He finally realized why she was shocked and teased her.

"How can you be my brother? You are definitely my ancestor's ancestor!" She frowned. Why did a five hundred year old need to be adopted? Wasn't he already too old? This world sure was twisted.

"I'm not sure you would want to call me your ancestor's ancestor." He chuckled.

"That's true." She was defeated, it felt more right to call him her brother.

She wondered how many generations of ancestors Dairon was, but she was yet to ask when she saw him walk in with a tray of drinks.

"When will we resume training?" She decided to ask.

He gave a glass of wine to Bardumond and pushed a glass of what looked like medicine in front of her. "When you feel better."

"I feel better." It was not just an excuse to evade the medicine, though she did want to evade it.

"You still need to rest a little more." He urged and shot a look towards Bardumond for the latter to help him convince her.

She didn't need to hear Bardumond's words to know that she would not be allowed to train today. "What will I be doing all day?"

"You can come with me to study poisons." He offered. When he met Dairon's glare, he cleared his throat. "Or you can follow Dairon to the grand Enchanted Library and read to your heart's content."

Neither was a bad idea but she was afraid they might be interrupted. "Wait. I should have a word with Blaze."

"Then I can go home with you." Bardumond offered, knowing that she would not be able to get to Blaze's castle on her own.

"Well…" She hesitated. Go to Blaze's home? Would that be appropriate?

"Don't worry. My mother is friendly." He reassured her.

"It's not about that." Jasmine didn't know how to say it without sounding paranoid and rude.

"Summon him instead." Dairon advised. He didn't want her to go to that god's castle either.

"How do I do that?" She cocked her head to the side.

"Show her." He instructed Bardumond, who readily agreed to help.

"You need to repeat these words, they may be difficult to pronounce but you will find it easy after a while." He told her and tried to say a few words for her to try out. She couldn't remember a single word after several tries which irritated her. How the hell was she supposed to summon him if she couldn't even memorize five words?

She was irritated." Blaze! Get your stinking ass here right this instant!" She yelled in anger. To everyone's surprise, Blaze did appear.

"Only one demi deity has the audacity to summon me so rudely and I guessed it would be you, Gessamine. Oh, it's Jas." Having appeared in mid air, he did a smooth landing and retracted his wings.

"Jasmine." She corrected him with a frown. She felt uncomfortable hearing him use the nickname that her friends usually used.

"Jas. And I don't think my ass stinks." He flashed a smile.

"Whether it does or not is not the point here." She tried not to let his insanity get to her.

"You want to continue living here." He guessed. When she nodded, he flashed yet another smile. "You can decide that later but first, can you have a look at my castle?"

"You want to show me how wealthy you are and how comfortable it will be to live there instead of here." If he could guess her thoughts, so could she. She knew that she was right when his visage stiffened for a moment.

"That's one thing but…" He tried to explain, only to be cut off by her again.

"You want to prove to me that I am much better off in your care than in that of the damned cursed fish." She read his thoughts aloud yet again.

"I'm still here, you know." Dairon frowned. He didn't care what the other gods and demigods called him, but if it was Jasmine and she was using such a tone of disdain, it made him immensely uncomfortable. Did she despise him so much?

"I'm not talking about you." She slapped her forehead when she realized that she was not making sense. "Not in that kind of way. I am simply stating what is on his mind."

Dairon was relieved. As long as she no longer hated him and didn't despise him, he would be happy even if she didn't end up falling in love with him. He stood a step in front of her, blocking her from Blaze's field of view while shielding her. "I am the one who found Jasmine. She is mine and it is my responsibility to take care of her." He declared resolutely.

Blaze scoffed. The audacity of this demigod! "Don't assume that just because you found her, you are entitled to keep her. Don't forget, everything is in the hands of fate. If you didn't find her, someone else would."

It was true and they both knew it. If Jasmine's accident didn't happen and she didn't end up meeting Dairon, she would still end up in the realm of immortals one way or another—as long as it was destined for her to be there.

Dairon nodded to this point too. "Yep. You are right about that. Someone would have found her, and fate decided that I should be the lucky demigod. Not you, Mr. High and mighty firefly."

Firefly? [1]

Blaze was enraged. The cursed fish dared to insult him!

He refused to succumb to the lousy trap of the bastard. He must be trying to rile him up so he would lose his temper, and he would use that to prove to Jasmine that he was capable of hurting her.

Fat chance.

"Jasmine is a demigoddess of fire and my daughter. I have every right to take her away."

"But you will not do that, because Jasmine has the right to decide on her own." She glared at the two of them. "Can the both of you please shut up?! I'm not a prize to be worn nor an item whose ownership has to be decided by this elementary-level argument!"

A vase shattered when she accidentally threw a fireball at it, jolting the arguing duo.

"Jasmine, I…" Dairon tried to touch her shoulders only to be pushed away. She was really angry. "I'm sorry. I just don't want you to be taken away." He knew that he was being selfish but he couldn't help wanting to keep her by his side.

She took a deep breath and glanced at the god. "Please leave and retract your orders, Lord Blaze."

"What does that mean?" Both Dairon and Blaze were nervous, and Bardumond was curious.

"I would rather stay here. For my entire stay in the Realm of The Immortals, I will stay here. If you don't agree to this, I would rather go back to where I belong." She decided resolutely, leaving Blaze no choice but to leave.

Dairon smirked at her words. Should he take that as a compliment?

"Rather." He teased when Blaze and Bardumond had left.

"I didn't choose to stay here but it's much better than being in the presence of that god who wants to kill me." She explained.

[1]....Please don't kill me, I know fireflies are cute. But Dairon used it as an insult so Blaze definitely wouldn't like it. It's just like being called a dog.. They're absolutely cute but if it's an insult, it will still sound offensive.
