Smiling after teasing her, Dairon had a taste of the chicken and nodded. "I was right. It tastes yummier than it looks."
She let off a small sigh of relief. It would be troublesome. If she had to start cooking all over again.
"Give me a minute." She bolted out of the dining room, knowing that he was going to ask her to sit and eat too. After taking off the apron and dusting all the flour off her, she let down her hair before going back to the dining room.
She ate in small bites, but she couldn't help sneaking a few peeks at him once in a while. Was it just her, or was he different?
He looked up and caught her staring. His facial features softened into a smile. "You are staring at me. What, do you have a crush on me?"
"What? Of course not!" She almost choked on her food, having been caught off guard.
"Oh, you don't? I'm a little disappointed, flower." He put a piece of meat in his mouth.
That was exactly what she was thinking about. Why did it suddenly seem like everything he was doing was flirtatious?
Trying not to think about it, she asked, "Is there any other way for me to go to The Clock aside from being summoned by Lord Blaze in my dream?"
"There is a way but it might take some time and involve other gods." He didn't ask why she wanted to know.
" Other gods?" Her heart sank.
"Not mean deities like Blaze and Scarlet. They are my friends." He reassured her.
She dabbed on her lips with a cotton napkin. "It's worth a try." Anything to get away from Blaze. If she asked for his help, who knew what absurd terms he would come up with, especially after their recent fight?
"I will get in touch with them but not tonight. I have to warn you. Tomorrow, the training will be especially intense." He stated.
"How intense?"
"Bardumond will have to be there." He answered, making her heart tense. Did he mean that there would be casualties?
"I'm not deliberately making things difficult for you, flower." He added in case she misunderstood. "It's just… your power is growing much faster than we anticipated. If your body can't handle it, you will soon break down."
"Okay… I will mentally prepare myself." She understood that he was afraid she would be too exhausted to go to The Clock after the upcoming intense training so she added, "we can meet your friends when it's suitable."
He nodded.
She had her fill and stood to leave.
"Uhm… Jasmine?" He stood to follow her.
"Is there anything else?" She paused in her steps.
"I'm going to the gallery and will spend several hours there." He started and paused.
"And?" She probed.
"I will not be done soon… usually, I get a drink to keep me going but I think the maids have been working too hard." He almost bit his tongue out. Couldn't he freaking come up with a sane excuse?!
As expected, she saw right through him. "Are you trying to get me to make you late night drinks?"
"Well…" He tried to think of a way to weasel out of it.
"It's alright. I can do that." She smiled, catching him off guard.
"What?" His brows furrowed.
"You wanted me to do it." She chuckled. "Anyway, I will stay up late too and would have to make myself some drinks. It's just an extra cup."
"Thank you." He sighed in relief.
Another smile flashed on her face. "You don't need to thank me, Teacher Dairon."
He watched her leave and cursed. Crap. The last two words were not coincidental. She was reminding him of his position. She was only doing this because he was her current trainer. He suddenly didn't know whether to be happy or sad.

Despite having rested a lot during the day, it didn't take long before fatigue started to creep in.
Feeling sleepy out of the blue, Jasmine closed her eyes for a nap and was woken by a loud clicking sound.
"It's the clock!" She half-sleepily recognized the sound and bolted out of bed. Blaze wasn't there this time, so she figured she should follow the sound and go towards it on her own.
It took several complicated turns before she could get to the giant clock but Blaze was standing outside it.
"You look eager to see me." He grinned.
"Why are you here?" She frowned accusingly.
"Do you think The Clock would wake you on its own?" His brows raised as if calling her out for being silly.
Although she still disliked his attitude, he was helpful in making her know her past so she smiled. "Thank you."
"Where do you want to go tonight? I have a feeling I should seal your power again." He asked in a teasing tone.
"You probably should. I'm going to the cave." it was uncertain what kind of scene was awaiting her. "Just leave me the ability to see in the dark, please?"
"I would even if you didn't ask me." He tapped her forehead.
"You are ready." He nudged her towards the entrance of The Clock.
There was only one corridor this time, and Jasmine sprinted to the end which led to the cave where the past her stayed to hide from the angry villagers.
She was still on the ground, her small body shaking from the cold as she hugged her arms. She was still trying to get a word out of her mouth.
The present Jasmine leaned over and listened carefully. After a while, she heard it a little more clearly.
"Tolvethor."
Tolvethor? This name…
She was yet to figure out where she heard the name when Sophie arrived in the cave, having searched all over the mountains for Jasmine.
"Jasmine!" She called out in relief.
The girl stood to her feet and glared at Sophie condescendingly. "Why are you here? Are you here to give me to them? To tell them that I'm here?"
"No, no!" Sophie was startled that her daughter would think that way. She held her arms out helplessly. "Jasmine, you're my baby. I would never betray you. I love you."
The girl didn't flinch.
"Come with me. Everything is ready, we are leaving the village right now." She coaxed.
Jasmine turned away dismissively. "You leave with papa."
"We can't leave you behind. Baby, please." She pleaded.
After pondering for a moment, Jasmine took a step towards Sophie. Sophie pulled her into her arms in an emotional hug. When she pulled away, she held Jasmine's hand and led her out of the cave only to stop in horror.
There was a large crowd of men approaching and they were all armed with swords and arrows. It was more believable that they were going to battle than to catch a little girl.
"What? This…" Sophie was confused. "Get behind me." She pulled Jasmine behind her back while holding her arm out in front of her small body, trying to shield her from the approaching crowd.
"Huh, I love you too, mother." Jasmine snickered.
Sophie felt weak in her knees as tears flooded her face. She had never imagined that the most touching words in the world could also be the most excruciating. From Jasmine's tone, she didn't trust her. She thought that her mother had betrayed her.
"Jasmine, I…" She wanted to say that she didn't know that she was being followed, then she realized that she had no right to say a word. She should have been more careful. She should not have sought her daughter even while knowing that everyone was looking for her. It wasn't out of question that someone would follow her everywhere she went hoping to catch them together.
Sophie was no match for a crowd of angry villagers and Jasmine didn't try to fight. She merely stepped out from behind Sophie and surrendered to them.
Jasmine was dragged into a dungeon and locked behind bars. None of the villagers was brave enough to know what she would do now that she had been locked up, so only one man represented them to try and stop the magistrate from letting her go.
"Magistrate, you saw what happened last night. The whole village fell into darkness for a while. No one could make a fire no matter what they tried. It was definitely not something an ordinary human can do. It was her!"
The magistrate frowned as they approached the metal gate of the dungeon. It was obvious that he was still going to put the village in danger and free her nonetheless.
"Look what she is doing now!" The man pointed at Jasmine. She was playing with fireballs! Freaking fireballs! Not only did they appear out of thin air, but they also appeared like ordinary balls in her hands. They didn't burn her, but from the increase of temperature, both of them knew that they would get burned if they touched her unique 'toys'.
The magistrate was shocked too. It wasn't every day that he saw kids like her. Even so, he still wanted to protect her despite seeing it with his own eyes. He must be insane. He looked at her gently. "Jasmine."
The girl retracted the fireballs she was playing with and looked up at him, flashing yet another innocent smile. "It's okay. Do the right thing.. No one will blame you for it."
