Although he had heard her clearly, he still sought confirmation. "Are you sure? There are other rooms, I can get one ready for you right away."

She knew that he would be fast, but when she thought about it, she was still uncomfortable. "I prefer staying here. Just for tonight…" She looked up at him and added, "Only if you don't mind."

"I don't mind." His heart broke seeing her like this. Knowing that she needed the company more than she needed to stay in a different room, a slight smile threatened to form on his lips. This was bittersweet. He liked that he would be spending the night with her but at the same time, he wished it was under different circumstances. Not with her scared out of her wits.

"Thank you." She smiled and finally let out the breath she didn't know she had been holding.

"Do you need something to drink? Warm milk to help you sleep?" He offered. She hesitated. Before she could actually answer him, he disappeared from the room, and when he returned, he had a ceramic mug of milk in his hand which he handed to her. "Be careful, it's hot. I added a tiny bit of sugar to make it tasty."

"Thank you." She couldn't turn down his kindness. She drank the milk in small sips as they chatted, and as though it had a magical effect, her eyes were starting to sting in drowsiness by the time she finished the milk. He snapped his fingers and the empty mug disappeared.

"What happened to it?" She asked curiously.

"I sent it back to the kitchen." He looked towards the bed. "What side do you want to sleep on?"

She thought about it but couldn't bring herself to choose a side. It was already kind enough that he let her sleep in his bed and even warmed her milk so she would sleep with ease. She looked at him. "What side do you usually sleep?"

"The left." He didn't know why she was asking but he answered it.

She nodded as she made a decision. "Then I'll take the right."

He nodded and she climbed onto the bed. She was on the left side so she climbed in before rolling onto the side she had chosen. His side was still warm and seemed to carry more of his scent than her side did. She felt nervous. This was the first time she had ever slept in a man's bed.

What was she doing? It was even worse that said man was not her husband. The fact that he was a demigod didn't make it any different. He was still a male nonetheless.

When he climbed into bed and turned off the torches, her heart almost stopped beating.

He knew why she was nervous, which is why he didn't make a move to hold her even though that was what he craved. He tapped her nose to tease her. "Don't be so tense. You will have a muscle ache in the morning. Just relax, okay?"

She did everything but relax. To be exact, she didn't move an inch. She simply curled as far as the bed could allow and gripped the covers in her hands. Using the light seeping in from the moon outside, he could see her eyes blink uneasily. It was expected.

"Your parents are quite strict." He decided to strike a conversation to distract her.

She was still nervous but she smiled. "I'm their eldest daughter. What do you expect?"

He chuckled. Well, that made sense. That and the fact that the Cavendish couple loved their daughters more than their lives. "Are they usually like that to all your suitors?" He couldn't help but wonder whether he had it worse than everyone else for being a demigod.

She covered her mouth and laughed. "I don't remember about the others but he threw one out over the fence for saying that he wanted a child within the first year of marriage."

"He deserved it." He cringed. If he knew who the idiot was, he would seek him and give him a good beating for ever having such idiotic thoughts. "A wife is a companion, not a breeding machine. Kids are not an obligation either. Having them should be a choice that makes the parents happy."

She smiled at his words. At least he respected those facts. Most men in Effinchil thought of marriage as a duty and having children as a source of pride. But then again, he had spent more years away from Effinchil. Of course his views would change over the years even if he were an idiot before.

"But now that we're on the topic, do you like kids?" He asked out of the blue.

"I've never really thought about it." Came her natural answer. When she thought about it, she couldn't decide whether or not she wanted them.

"That's because you have not met someone you want to have them with. When you do, you will feel it naturally. It will feel special."

"What about you?" She asked out of curiosity.

"Have I found someone I want to have kids with?" He deliberately picked the question he knew was not the one she was asking. "Yes I have. If she feels the same way, that is. I wonder whether their element will be watter or fire."

His words made her cheeks flush. She couldn't bring herself to ask what she had actually wanted to find out. He was definitely crazy.

A moment of silence followed, and when he looked over at her, he noticed her eyes drooping by the second." You're sleepy, aren't you? Go to sleep. Goodnight, flower." He smiled.

"Goodnight." She gave in, falling into a deep slumber.

When she woke up, Dairon had already left and his side of the bed was cold. That was strange. Why did it feel as though she had slept in a pair of warm, strong arms? It was different from what she felt when her parents embraced her—not in a bad way. She must have been dreaming because Dairon woke up long before she did.

She saw him at the balcony when she finished making the bed so she went over to him. There was a bird on his shoulder and he was pulling a small scroll from its claws.

"What's that?" She asked.

He opened the scroll and skimmed over the characters. "It's a message from the gods of fire. They are going to throw a banquet for you."

Her face dropped. "I'm not sure I want that." She was not ready to meet the deities, especially not a crowd of them at the same time.

"It's a tradition for newborn deities and demi deities to be introduced at a banquet. You're no different since they haven't met you yet." He sighed as he dropped the bummer.

"I see. Then I guess I don't have much choice." She shrugged. She knew that she would have to face it.

He stuffed the scroll to close and tried to send the blue bird away. "I can have a word with Blaze to delay it until you're ready."

"Will you go too?" She asked.

"Yes. Because in this kind of banquet, you will need to identify your element. Deities of all elements will be invited." He explained.

"But my element is obvious...right. Formalities." She figured it out with a chuckle.

"Don't worry. No one will pin pressure on you." He patted her shoulder.

She nodded, reassured since he would be there. "When is the banquet?"

"Tomorrow night." Came another shocking bummer.

"What the f*ck is wrong with Blaze?" she exploded. Would it hurt to give her a few days to prepare?

Dairon smiled. "The message was written on the day Blaze left. This little fella found some friends to play with and forgot to send the message in time."

She glared at the blue bird, apparently that was its cue to fly over and land on her shoulder. "Hey, what the..!"

"Just don't poop on me, please." She muttered when the little thing didn't move no matter how hard she tried to shoo it off.

Training started soon after breakfast, and she was pleasantly surprised when he handed her a sword. "I get to learn how to fight with swords?"

"I'm glad you look forward to it." He unsheathed his sword. "This is killing two birds with one stone. You learn how to fight and at the same time, improve your self-control."

"Okay…" She waited for his instructions while standing opposite him.

"I will try to attack you. You are going to dodge and go on the defense. Don't attack, don't use your powers, just defend like a human would." He instructed and prepared to attack.

"Well, I lived like one for twenty five years anyways." She was pleased by what seemed like an easy task.

"Is that so?" He grinned and aimed his sword right at her heart, which went into flames and melted immediately.

"You lose, flower." He smiled in triumph.

She had forgotten that she could fight without her power before because she was yet to regain it.

"You lose again."

"Lose."

"That's 0 for you and ten for me."

"Hey!" groaned.

The more worked up she was, the more she would lose. He was enjoying this. "If you lose again, I will kiss you."
