"That's not fair!" Jasmine protested when his words sunk in. What kind of bet was that?
"Then don't lose." An evil smile was plastered on his face when he prepared himself. Her instinct told her that he was hoping for her to lose and she knew that it was right.
"Ready?" He twirled his sword in his hand, looking unusually invigorated. Yeah, he really did hope for her to lose.
"Wait wait. I need to brace myself." She was more nervous under his gaze than she was about his condition of kissing her if she lost again.
"Okay. I'll attack on the count of three." He announced. Apparently, that was all it was supposed to take to prepare herself mentally. It wasn't even enough to wipe her sweat and straighten her dress.
He was delighted in her misfortune a little too much and he wasn't even trying to hide his smirk. Darned fish.
"One." He started his count and she could only brace herself.
The blade swooshed through the air, taking her by surprise and her first reaction was to throw a fireball at it.
"Hey!" She glared at him in complaint.
"You lose again, flower." He licked his lips. He must be the only trainer who hoped for his trainee to keep failing.
"You said you would attack on the count of three but you did so on the count of one." She furiously pointed out his unfairness.
"Who actually counts to three, flower?" He laughed at her naivety. "Besides, do you think anyone is going to warn you on the battlefield that they are going to attack?"
"This is not a battlefield." She didn't give in.
"It is." He closed in on her. "At least it is a field—Just not one for battles. But for kisses, it does qualify."
Knowing what he was about to do, she felt more nervous than she already was. Her palms were sweating and it had nothing to do with the intense training. Instinctively, she shrank back to the wall behind her. The sword dropped out of her hand and she didn't even think to pick it, her first instinct being to hide from him.
She should have known that he would follow her and look down into her eyes with his intense blue ones. They made her feel vulnerable, as if she could be seen through by him.
Her lips trembled when he leaned down. "D-dairon, can you kiss me later?"
He threw his head back and laughed heartily, having fun teasing her. "Did I hear you right? Because I thought I heard you asking for a kiss. Of course, I can. I will kiss you later as well if that's what you want, flower."
"No! I…" She didn't know what to say. He knew what she meant! His intense gaze made her unable to say a word and before she could gather her senses, his nose was touching hers. His lips were just a breath away from hers.
Her brains must have hidden away from his gaze as she didn't know what to do—not that she had any strength to do it. She just stood there, plastered to the wall with her heart thumping out of control.
"Mmh?" He probed her to complete her statement but before she could, she felt his lips land on hers.
His hand slid to hold her waist while the other held her head in place. He wove his hand through her hair, feeling its softness as he sucked her lips.
It was nothing like she had ever felt before. A jolt coursed through her whole body when he nipped her lower lip, making her toes curl. Her hand that was ready to push him away felt weaker by the second.
He pulled away and she grabbed the chance to speak. "Dairon…"
His eyes darkened in a way that almost terrified her. "Say that again."
When he leaned down, she shook her head as she gasped for breath. "S-stop…."
He did the opposite. He held her waist firmly against his body as his lips found hers again. He had only wanted to tease her a little but now that he tasted her lips, the last thing he wanted was to stop. Her lips tasted sweeter than he had imagined. He could feel her racing heart that was almost in perfect rhythm with his, and it skipped a beat when his hand traced her back.
His tongue teased her lips and she didn't know why she parted them. All she knew was when his tongue snuck in between her lips, her body went weak.
He looked into her hazy eyes when he stopped, holding onto her waist. "Why should I stop when you clearly want it, mmh?"
"I… I don't!" She denied it at a speed that alarmed her.
"That's not what your body says." He ran his thumb along her lips which he had just kissed but wanted to taste again. "I can feel your heartbeat."
She felt even weaker under his teasing words and she didn't know where to dart her gaze. Her foot stepped on something and when she recognized it as the hilt of her sword, she picked it up while he was distracted and pointed the blade at his neck.
"If this were a real battlefield, your head would be rolling on the ground right now. So, you know. I won." Her chest was still heaving as she tried to catch her breath.
"Sneaky girl." He stifled a laugh. It turned out, sneakiness was a dominant gene in the Cavendish family.
She was quite pleased with herself after tricking him, he caught her off guard by grabbing her and lowering his face close to hers. Her heart skipped a beat. "What are you doing?"
"You won, so I'm going to let you kiss me." He said it so naturally that her face reddened.
"What? That wasn't part of the rules." She swallowed, wanting to get away from his eyes.
"It is now." He declared.
She blinked as she tried to avert her gaze. She tried not to look at his lips which had made her feel things she had never felt before. This was wrong. "You know what? I'll let you off this time."
He straightened up with a smile as his tongue snuck out and licked the corner of his lips. He should stop doing that while looking at her lips. No, he should stop doing it altogether. "What a bummer. I was looking forward to tasting your lips again."
He rubbed his thumb against her lower lip, licking it under her widened eyes. "Tasty."

"I thought you would want to rest." Dairon commented when Jasmine headed for the kitchen as soon as they returned from their training field that had now turned into a kissing field as well.
She felt nervous being under the same roof as him, especially after what had transpired. It felt dangerous even though they were in the hallway and they were not the only inhabitants of the mansion. "I'll just whip up something to eat." She was going to use it as an excuse to get away but she ruined it by asking. "Are you hungry?"
He looked at her meaningfully. "Yes."
"What would you like to eat?" The question felt wrong as soon as she popped it and she soon knew why.
"Are you really sure you want to find out?" He was looking at her lips again.
The familiar jolt went down her body and she immediately shook her head. "On second thought, I'll just cook whatever I can find." Then she bolted into the kitchen as if she was running for her life.
"My lady, are you alright?" Rosetta asked when Jasmine burst in with a red face.
"Ah...yes. I'm just hungry." She made an excuse, a lame one. She could clearly hear Rosetta's thoughts, the latter was wondering whether it was characteristic of fire deities to have red faces when they were hungry.
She chuckled awkwardly in defeat and started gathering ingredients. "I will cook lunch."
Rosetta had already guessed that it was the reason for Jasmine's arrival so she stepped aside to let her access the cooking area. "Do you need help?"
This was the first time since her identity was uncovered that Rosetta was not scurrying away from her so she agreed. "Yes. Could you help me get some vegetables? Get me some chillies too. And…"
Under her instructions, Rosetta brought all the ingredients she needed and she started cooking. She was not in her right mind. If Rosetta was not beside her to remind her several times, the food would have turned into an overcooked mess with probably too many spices.
It somehow managed to be perfect but… "Milady, isn't that going to be too hot?" Rosetta was worried when she chopped too many chillies and added them to the braised meat.
"Dairon can handle it." She laughed at the prank she was setting up for him. His tongue would probably be burning as soon as he had a taste.
The last thing she would ever expect was for him to lick his lip as soon he ate a piece. "Mmh… tasty."
She was once again unsure whether he was talking about the food. As if reading her mind, he looked at her lips. "Not just the food."
