Chapter 23: Pride Of A Doctor

“Hey..” A young nurse who was carrying files and walking to the records room elbowed her friend who was busy munching on her chips.

“W-what? Don’t disturb me..I am eating right now.” The other girl shrugged off her shoulder and focused on her chips. Since they had been busy all day long, she was starving.

Right now, nothing else was important than the food that was going inside her mouth.

“Dummy, you are going it regret if you do not look right now.” The young nurse poked her in her stomach and snatched the bag of potato chips from her hand.

“Hey, give it ba…..” Her voice trailed off before she could even finish her sentence. Seeing the speechless face of her friend, the first nurse gave a smirk.

“See I told you.” She squealed like a high school girl and clasped the files on her chest in excitement while her friend was in the continued state of awe.

“Isn’t he handsome?” Pointing at Levian who was heading towards the reception room, both of them nodded in excitement as they blushed from ear to ear.

“Is he a supermodel?” The girl who had been munching in the chips asked with doubt as she looked at his well maintained face, body and the domineering aura he exuded even without doing anything.

By simply being there, he was able to win both of their hearts.

“If handsome men like him come to our hospital daily, I am willing to work 26/7 without a moment rest.” The first nurse gave an endearing look at the side profile of Levian as he passed by them.

“I know right..” The other nurse tilted her head and looked at him go to the extent her eyes could.

“Enn…Hey, why are you drooling all over my hand?” She shouted in startled tone and shook her friend.

“Are you really that hungry?” She asked in disbelief but felt sad seeing the hungry look on her friend’s face. She shoved the potato chips packet on her hand and walked away from there dragging her friend along with her.

They could dream about handsome man any day but right now they had to do their work.

“You really attract way too much attention boss.” Roy spoke as he watched the two nurses walk away from the corner of his eyes.

“It’s not my problem, is it?” Levian loosened the tie on his neck and walked to the reception where three staffs were busy making calls, appointments and handling papers.

It was about time to retire for the day so they were hurrying through their works that they did not even notice someone had arrived and was standing in front of the counter.

“Excuse me, May I get an appointment with Dr. Sherry?” Levian asked the staffs who was near most to him.

The lady raised her head up and was silent for a while as she stared at the majestic face in front of her. But as a veteran worker, she quickly regained her composure and denied his request.

“Sorry sir, we do not run OPD services at night. If it’s emergency case then you can head to emergency department at the right wing.” She politely responded to Levian.

She went through the doctor’s list and saw that Dr. Sherry was currently in her office after checking up on a critical patient.

‘Why is she here today? Didn’t she take leave for today?’ She was confused when she saw the records ad had to double check with the next staff who was managing documents.

“Ohh, she came back just a few hours ago due to an emergency case.” The next staff informed her.

“Sorry sir, but you can only make an appointment at later date.” She turned to face Levian who was standing there, waiting for her to make his appointment.

‘Sir, just use your power to make one. Who dares to defy you?’ Roy whispered to Levian but was returned with only silence.

“I can do that..But this time I want to do it from the front door.” Levian gave a silent answer and turned to look at the staff.

‘Oh wow, he is that serious huh?’ Roy was impressed by the determination his boss had to get the appointment.

“Mam, I am really in need of assistant from Dr. Sherry.” Levian was a business man, so the way he spoke was really fluent and attractive.

“I will love to let you meet her sir, but it’s her off day and yet she is working late. I am sorry, I really can not let you meet her.” The staff faltered in her words and her determination when faced with such a good and smooth talker.

“You can call Dr. Sherry and tell her that she has an important patient waiting for her. If she doesn’t want me, I will leave for today.” Levian made his intention clear and looked at the staff.

“Fine, then please wait a minute while I call her.” The staff took out the telephone and rang up Dr. Sherry in her office who, at the moment was taking a rest in her office after taking care of the emergency case right now.

She was tired and exhausted but not physically. Her mental fortitude had always been strong but spending this one day alone had made her feel mentally drained out and emotionally exhausted.

The scenes from before, the scenes from the operation hall came flooding in her vision. She tightly shut her eyes to cut off the sight of pale and weak Bella, who looked like she was about to die any moment due to excessive blood lost.

“Dr. Sherry, should we proceed with the operation?” the senior doctors, Mr. Thomas had asked her after preparing everything.

Sherry looked at the group of doctors who were ready and on standby and at the patient on the bed.

One word from her could decide whether the operation will take place or not since, as her doctor she had full rights over the patient and her treatment.

“Let’s do it!” Sherry looked with determination at everyone there, her voice not faltering one bit.

"I will take care of her, since she is my patient!!" She claimed with her pride as a doctor.

Since the miscarriage was way too serious, they had to remove the womb from her belly. Although Sherry was not a well-trained gynecologist, she could still perform the surgery along with the other doctors from the related department.

After all, Bella was her patient and as her doctor, her responsibility came before everything, even before her hatred and desire for revenge.

“But, the fact she miscarriage still makes me sad. Shouldn’t I be happy that it happened?” Sherry shut her eyes tight while pain eroded her heart from inside.

While she was getting lost in her thoughts, the sound of the telephone ringing echoed inside the silent room.
