"It should be here, right?" Trewy asked impatiently.

A few days have passed since they left the clearing. And now... They should be at the place where the Rabbit Tribe lived. However, there was no one to be seen. The maps of the Jura Forest were very inaccurate. Many were made simply from memory. This was one of Nemu's jobs. Making accurate maps with the help of Guide. Of course, he would not mark some places. Like the clearing with the Spirits. Cervi had led them there because he trusted them, but that didn't apply to all people. Probably the place was sacred for the animals of the area. The path they took made no difference, the map would be accurate. But now, for the first time, they faced a problem. The Rabbit Tribe was not here. Even with Nemu's magical perception, he could not detect anything.

"I think we have no choice. We'll just have to walk around and hope we get lucky." Said Nemu. The Rabbit Tribe was around here. There was no question about that. Even if the map wasn't accurate, the place should be close.

Trewy sighed. A week has passed since they set out for this place. And she had been looking forward to it. But the thought of spending another day, or even longer, trying to find the Rabbits' camp... annoying.

"Wait! I have an idea!" Chances were slim, but maybe it would get them somewhere. "Detective!" Said Nemu loudly. Trewy nodded in satisfaction. Of course, she knew about Nemu's detective skill, too. Still, neither knew for how long he could keep track of them. But if anyone from the Rabbit Tribe had been here or nearby in the last few hours, they would be able to follow the tracks.

And they were lucky! Keeping the tracks apart was a problem when large groups were traveling together. However, they were deep in the forest and if there were traces of humanoids, then they certainly belonged to the Rabbits who were supposed to be in the vicinity. And right next to them, there were traces of small feed. For Nemu they appeared in a red color. But they were already very light. Actually, there were traces in two directions. Nemu and Trewy would follow the tracks that were less faded. Even if the rabbits did not return to their camps, they would still meet someone without question.

"It's that direction." Said Nemu while looking in one direction. Trewy followed the gaze.

"Okay, let's go."

They followed the tracks for an hour until Nemu could finally sense humanoid life forms. If they had just walked on it, they would have gotten lost for sure. Perhaps they would have walked in the wrong direction for hours.

"It's over there." Nemu said.

"Wait... something is wrong." Trewy objected.

"What do you mean?" Asked Nemu confused while scanning the area.

"Well, we're supposed to go there without being captured first?" She said with a smile.

She was right. In Kumos web and also in the demon castle, they were captured first and brought there. That was, kind of, their thing. Can't ruin the streak right now, right?

"Maybe next time." Laughed Nemu and Trewy puffed.

"Hmm... There are two strong presences. Probably the guards. Shouldn't they have heard us by now?" Rabbits specialized in their sense of hearing. He had read that before. Long before they can see someone, they have already heard them. Beastmen had these different detection abilities. However, Nemu underestimated himself. With his magical perception, he could not only sense the mana, it also replaced his sense of sight, smell, and hearing. Therefore, even races that specialized in one of these areas were barely comparable to Slime senses. The way they took to avoid the monsters, fully ignoring all of the monsters' ways of hiding and setting up traps would never have worked without his slime senses. Before he got his name his perception was still limited and he sometimes came very close to monsters without noticing them, however, by now that wouldn't happen again. But there were still some traps that were dangerous even for them. Like Kumos web. So they never became reckless.

"Let's get closer. I'm sure they'll notice us then." Trewy and Nemu never assumed they would just walk into the camp. Every tribe was aware of the danger of monsters and they defended their home. So they had to take care of it first. Luckily they were a dryad and a slime, Rimuru had told them before that they would not be attacked by any intelligent tribe. But still, that doesn't mean they should become careless.

And so it happened. After they had come another hundred meters to the camp Nemu could sense that a guard hurriedly moved away. Probably to report that someone was approaching. So they decided to wait before moving on. After only a minute, Nemu watched as one of the guards slowly approached them. He tried to be sneaky and probably assumed he hadn't been spotted yet, but that wouldn't work with them. When he was in sight of them, he immediately ran back to the camp. He assumed he hadn't been spotted and wanted to report back.

Nemu and Trewy started playing cards while they waited. Nemu found the deck of cards again in the Demoncastle. Had it not been in a sturdy wooden case, Corsar probably would have destroyed it, but this way he was able to save it. Games were something Nemu had never done before. If it hadn't been Guide, he certainly wouldn't have found a use for the cards, but after explaining some games to them, Trewy and Nemu had started playing cards daily. Like everything from Tempest, there was a slime on almost every card. The king looked like Rimuru with a scepter and crown. Concerning was the fact that the queen was also Rimuru, but with a crone and a dress.

The card game should be one of the gifts for other Tribes. But Nemu was really happy to have unwrapped it himself before giving it away. Because... well, it must look very strange to other tribes who don't know Tempest.

In the beginning, Nemu had tried to ask Guide for help a few times when he was stuck. However, somehow, Guide always predicted exactly the wrong move. At first Nemu thought Guide was just not good at playing cards, but after trying a few times when he already knew the right move, he realized Guide was deliberately giving him the wrong answers. Well, he probably didn't like it when people abused his skills, or he just wasn't a fan of cheating. But lesson learned. Don't abuse Guide.

After a few minutes, something finally happened. A group of four rabbits approached them. They had weapons but they were all pointed at the ground. They were aware that there was no danger from a slime and a dryad.

"So it's true." Nemu heard a voice from afar.

"I told you. A young dryad and a red slime..."

"Oh come on, how likely is that? Don't wonder we doubted it."

They slowly approached, probably unaware that Nemu could already hear them.

Nemu and Trewy had already finished their game. Trewy had won and was in a good mood. But Nemu will definitely get his revenge, he decided.

And now, the Rabbit people were standing right in front of them. They looked exactly like humans. Most other beastmen had more beast-like characteristics but the rabbit tribe only had their long ears. As before, they looked at Trewy when they started to speak.

"A young Dryad and a red slime." The oldest of them and the only one without a weapon started the conversation. "What a surprising group. Welcome. Were you looking for us?"

"Yes, we are from Tempest. I'm Trewy and this is Nemu." Trewy introduced them.

"Oh, I knew dryads had names but a slime with a name? That's new." Everyone was now looking at Nemu. They had different emotions in their eyes. Surprise, disbelief, and.... Envy? Nemu was still not used to it. In Tempest, everyone had a name. But outside of Tempest, there were few with names. Without question, they would get this reaction more often.

"I am Nemu." Trewy had already introduced him, but they probably assumed he couldn't speak, so he should clear this up. Unsurprisingly, they looked even more shocked.

However, the oldest Rabbit man started to laugh. "And he can even speak. A red slime, with a name that can speak. I thought a young dryad moving alone in the forest would be unusual, but this was really unexpected."

"Unfortunately, we don't have names. But I am one of the oldest in our tribe. So you can call me Elder." He didn't look that old to Trewy and Nemu, maybe in his forties? However, even though the Rabbit Tribe was one of the better known tribes in the Jura Forest, they knew little about the inhabitants. Most conversations were between hunters and traders, so little information about their tribe was shared. Perhaps Rabbit mans were just not that old.

"So, you said it's no coincidence that you're here? Can you tell me the reason why you are here?" The elder asked with interest.

"Well..." Nemu started talking. "Actually, there are two reasons. We are adventurers and we want to visit as many places in the forest as possible..."

Nemu was interrupted because one of the Rabbits started to laugh mockingly. Before he began to speak, Nemu and Trewy sighed. There must always be that one idiot who can't help himself, right? It's like this is a novel. "A slime who wants to be an adventurer. That's laughable. Do you even know how hard it is to survive in the woods?"

And immediately, as in every novel, he was scolded. "A red slime with a name that can talk and you think it's laughable that he's an adventurer?" Said the Elder without expecting an answer. Slightly annoyed.

Nemu couldn't even blame the young rabbit man. Nemu knew he was special. And he also knew that many had to fight for their survival every day. That simply a slime arrives, who should be the weakest life form and tells he wanders through the forest because he wants to be an adventurer? Even if his reaction was inappropriate, he could not blame him.

"I'm sorry about him. Please continue." Said the elder.

"It's okay. I know it must seem unusual. But it is what it is." Nemu said politely. "Like I said, we're adventurers and we've heard of the Rabbit Tribe, so we thought we should pay it a visit. Also, I'm very interested in other races so I'd be very grateful if you'd tell me more about yourself."

"Hmm..." The elder said and nodded. "And what about your friend?" He now looked to Trewy.

"I left my grove for the first time a few weeks ago and the job of dryads is to protect the forest. When I heard about Nemu's journey, I wanted to accompany him. So we set out together." Said Trewy.

"Makes sense." The Elder nodded. "Dryads are always very welcome here. You said there was a second reason?"

"That's... more complicated." Nemu said. His reason was simple. He wanted to visit this place. But telling them about Tempest, Rimuru, and the changes in the forest would take more time. So it would be better if they didn't do it outside in the forest. The elder's companions were nervous. They were not in their camp and therefore were looking very attentively into the forest, always assuming the worst. Nemu knew that they were also very focused on their hearing senses. It looked funny when their ears twitched at every sound. It was just the sounds of the forest, falling leaves, cracking sticks and the rustling of the wind. However, the elder knew what Nemu implied when he said complicated. It is not the right place.

Before they started walking, Trewy asked one more question. "You said dryads are always very welcome here. Why?" Respect for dryads was something every tribe had. But Trewy was right, there must be more to it than that.

"Oh... You don't know?" The elder said, looking at Trewy in surprise and raising his eyebrows. "In the past, we often had problems with humans from outside the forest. We were attacked time and time again and the dryads often protected us. They said it was their job but we could never show our gratitude until today." He smiled.

Trewy's sisters had told her about the Rabbit Tribe, but why did they leave that part out? It's not like it was a small thing... Annoying. But more important, why would humans attack the Rabbit Tribe? The place wasn't close to the borders of the forest, so they must have had something in mind.

The elder saw from her expression that Trewy had no idea. So he shrugged it off with a smile.

"I'll tell you about it later. It seems like there is a lot to talk about. Now come along for now, it's dangerous out here."

The guards let out a relieved sigh. Finally their tension eased. Nemu was a bit confused about their reaction. There were many monsters in the forest, but he never thought it was this dangerous.

Trewy nodded. Nemu was able to hold back, luckily. First impressions were always important!
