Chapter 74: Passing Time#3

LERAYE'S POV:-

Waves or more precisely waves of monsters occurs when there is an extremely high disturbance in the mana at a certain place. The higher the mana disturbance the more better the quality and the quantity of monsters it will attract. Waves can be good or bad depending on how, when or where they occur. Obviously for Eslaine it's more of a boon than a bad thing. It is also a good thing for young adventurers to increase their skill and experience. Plus it also helps in testing the defenses of the city of Eslaine against monsters and other threats.

Generally the waves are known prehand within the city by the people and they prepare for the waves accordingly but because of Leader's brainwashing everyone forgot about the mana surge that occurred during the attack. Even still the higher ups alerted most of the adventurers and soldiers to prepare for this scenario so the city should be safe.

As for the person responsible for the mana surge, he is currently sleeping in his room back at the inn. After the enlightenment was over, he lost consciousness for a long while before waking up yesterday.

I recall back what leader said about his enlightenment,

("His enlightenment is special, but that is more than obvious so I'll get directly to the point. He won't wake up for a maximum of a week and even after waking up his powers will be down for another week or two. That is one of the reasons we aren't moving immediately out of the city. Also, I need you guys to help Icelos out in his training and get him to be strong enough to at least handle a handful of Gold rank by himself.")

Well, since he will be a strong asset after 2 weeks of wait, it will be a good thing for the party itself. 

'Hmmmm'

Now that I think about it we haven't registered as an official party, have we? Well, it must have been something related to the Leader's plans I guess. He did say that he will be talking to that Adventurers Guild's head. 

Thinking all that I join the other adventurers who were waiting for the next wave to come. I see Icelos preparing to fight too. Honestly, if not being compared to his brothers he himself is quite capable, at least for a human child of that age. He is strong willed and brave plus hardworking and talented. It's just that in front of his brothers, I can't help but compare him to those monsters and in the prospect, I can't help but imagine what he might show us later. After all, he is the brother of those two monsters.

My eyes then drift to Lucy and Kaneto who seems to be standing next to that Albe guy or whatever his name was. That man seems to have collected a lot of capable people around him and he seems to be explaining something to Old man Kaneto. Well, I can [pretty much make out what they were talking about. It is basically along the lines of 'kick your leader out and I will give you this and that.'

When Morpheus heard about it yesterday he just chuckled and ignored it as unnecessary nuisance but he did say to keep watch over Icelos so that they don't approach him. As for Phan, the Leader himself will be taking care of him.

-Bam bam bam

I hear the sound of heavy foot steps coming from the forest. 

"The monsters have arrived," a man beside me murmured as a smile forms on his face. Adolphus seems to have put some bonus rewards for the monsters killed. It really did lift up the spirits of the adventurers.

Soon a few wolf monsters came into our vision and the Archers and Magicians took aim and shot in the direction from where the monsters were coming.

The arrows hit most of the monsters in the front and the middle. Many weaker monsters were killed in an instant but the stronger ones sustained lesser damage. It helped reducing the extra numbers they had. 

Soon the stronger monsters reached closer to us too and the melee team also started running towards them. 

I saw Icelos killing some stronger monsters one by one and my work was to keep the much stronger monsters away from him.

After going on for hours the monsters finally started getting lesser in numbers. Honestly, it shoudn't have taken this long and the wave shouldn't have come this early. I mean the waves do tend to get more longer with passing time but not this early. It should have been a few more days before a wave this long comes. I sit and ponder whether it's related to that higher mana surge or is it something else totally? I couldn't help but wonder.

So the main question that comes is,

"When will this end?" A mutter comes from behind. I turn to find out Lucy and Kaneto have reached beside me. Icelos is behind them too. He looks pretty exhausted but he seems to be enjoying the process. 

"From the looks of it, these waves should take one more week at most and from the duration of today's wave, we should expect at least a calamity grade monster leader among them," I tell them my theory at which their eyes turns focused and they nod at it.

"But it should be nothing difficult for Eslaine to handle," I hear a voice of man coming from behind Kaneto. 

Kaneto moves only to reveal that Albe guy joining the conversation. He smiles as he observes all of us one by one. He seems to be thinking something along the lines of 'Only people like these are worthy enough for those kids to be in their party.'

I move and punch his face only to turn his face into that of bewilderment. He seems to be genuinely shocked at my sudden punch as his eyes locks onto me for answers regarding my sudden displeasure.

"I don't like your face. The way you smile, the way you stand, the way you look at us and the way you think. I don't like any of it. Move away from here before I end up forcing you to do so," I speak with clear anger in my voice. I woudn't have bothered with him if not for his looking at me as if I am something to be used for. Plus there is also Leader's order to not allow this freak guy to get closer to Icelos. 

Lucy and Kaneto doesn't seem to mind my actions. In fact, I even saw Lucy smiling and approving my action. She must have been quite annoyed by this guy. Seriously, why is he so fixated on removing Leader from our group. I genuinely can't understand that part anymore. At this point it is more of an obsession than a request.

"Kid aren't you getting over your head for nothing?" I see another adventure, probably a platinum ranked one joining us. Soon a few more similar rank adventurers joins us as they surround all of us. Looking at their actions of helping out Albe guy and also that business like smile they have, it is quite easy to understand that they are hired adventures by that man.

I point my Scythe at those men. Lucy and Kaneto prepare for the fight too. Icelos seems slightly confused before joining us for the fight too.

"Haha," I coudnt help but chuckle at the sudden change in the situation. Truly things get interesting when it comes to Morpheus, huh?
