[Night POV]

My wife and I had been trying to have a child for many many years. For a while we both thought it would be impossible after failing again and again. Then one day my wife and I were gazing at the moonlit sky. As a star passed over the kingdom, I made a wish. As this nation’s king it was really a foolish dream. The only thing I wanted in that moment was to see my wife smile as she held our child. I wished that if there was a god or goddess watching, they would take pity on us. Please grant me this foolish request. I have never asked for anything. I have never sought guidance, but please grant my wife and I the happiness that other families are able to experience.

A few weeks later my wife jumped into my arms in excitement. “I am pregnant! We are going to have a child!” The news almost caused me to drop her in shock. I felt warm tears start to come out of my eyes as I hugged her. My wife was beyond happy over the course of her pregnancy. A doctor who specializes in pregnancies visited the castle, and we were able to determine that we would have a daughter.

Following that news my wife dragged me around to every store in the city. She bought so many baby outfits and outfits for a child. We bought enough clothes that our daughter wouldn’t need new clothing until she was at least 8 years old. Although I was certain that my wife would buy her even more clothing down the line.

Before our daughter was born I chose the maid that I could trust the most to be her personal maid. Yumi was a brilliant mage, so she would be able to protect my daughter. Not only that, but she was extremely loyal to both me and my wife.

The final weeks of my wife’s pregnancy came to an end. As our daughter was pushed out, I could tell my wife was in pain. The pained expression on her face loosened into a smile along with the vice grip she had on my hand. The baby cried a healthy cry as the doctor brought her to my wife to hold. That was the second time I ever saw my wife Elise cry. She cried tears of joy as she held our daughter. Our daughter was so precious. She had the same silver hair as her mother, and her eyes were reflected in the same purple as my own.

Our daughter was quiet for a baby, and she would rarely cry. The doctor assured us that there was nothing wrong with her though. She didn’t utter a single word until her first birthday. I was a little jealous that her first word was “mommy”, but beyond that I was worried because she seemed overly shy of strangers. My wife ended up having to bring our crying daughter away from her own birthday party.

After that it was like our daughter suddenly became a genius. Before we knew it she was speaking full sentences. It didn’t take her long to start reading either; however, she still had a problem talking to strangers. She always opted to hide behind me, Elise, or Yumi when meeting new people. The entire kingdom was curious about the little princess, but she had a hard time speaking to anyone else. It took a long time for her to start talking to the head butler Roland, and he was around constantly.

Every birthday we celebrated she would hide behind us, even as the people presented her with gifts. There was no end to my worries as her father. She would run around the castle carefree with Yumi. She was outgoing around the people close to her, but she would shut out any new people. My wife and I talked about it, and when En turned 3 we brought her out of the castle. That was the one day our daughter had her defenses broken by the chef that cooked her pizza. Our daughter was so excited to try the pizza even though she never had it before. She would sometimes get excited over the strangest things. Everytime my wife and I showed her magic she would beam.

It was all going smoothly, and I couldn’t love my daughter anymore even with all of her quirks. Then one day we thought we were going to lose her after she collapsed on the floor. Her body was shivering, and she went pale. I immediately had my advisor fetch the best doctor in the kingdom. All the while I was praying that my daughter remained in this world. In that moment I would have offered my soul to an evil god if it would save my daughter.

That became unnecessary as my daughter recovered with the help of the doctor, but he told us there was nothing we could do about her cracked mana core. That was when my wife called in an old favor from a stupid haughty dragon lord. I wasn’t sure if the fool would actually be able to heal my daughter, but true to his word he fixed her mana core. Then he said something to my wife with telepathy.

When I asked my wife about it later she explained the side effects that could show up. Then she explained his current family circumstances. He apparently had a daughter that was the same age as our own. The last thing he explained was a bit troubling. Apparently, Shulk’s royal family that fled during the invasion was currently spreading their ideology in Gorgon where they have taken root. This news was indeed troubling as tensions were high between Arris and Gorgon. Their idiot king is aiming for my daughter as their prince's future bride. I don’t want to, but I will walk through the battlefield again if it is for my daughter. The last thing I want is for her to suffer. That is why after her fifth birthday I will train her in earnest. Even if she comes to hate it, I will have to bear with that. This is part of my duty as her father.
