Chapter 2: Ch. 2 – Running Away

Deg!

 Rei woke up like he had just fallen from a high place.  Rei opened and took a deep breath, he felt his chest burning.

 Sprawled in the mud and battered, his clothes tattered in the unknown wilderness.

 Rei glanced down, an iron wedge made of silver stuck in the center of his chest.

 "Help..."

 Rei tried to call for help, but his voice was hoarse. His whole body felt scorched from inside out and immobilized. 

 He grabbed the iron wedge in his chest and his palm instantly scalded. Little did he knew, the wedge was enchanted by a holy magic that specialized to hunt down Lycans kin.

  However, his instincts urge him to pull the wedge out from his chest.

 An inch by inch of the wedge was released from his chest, Rei shouted from top of his lungs and pulled out the silver wedge despite having to endure the excruciating pain.

 Blood spurted out of his chest, he coughed mouthfull blood and crawled. Searching saver place to recover.

 A minute later, the bleeding stopped, the wound closed slowly and he could breathe freely.

 Rei gasped in surprise, yet he didn't understand his situation, various kinds of information also flooded his mind.

 "Alpha Lycan? Power Level? What the hell? Is this the System that God of Wolves mentioned before?"

 [New quest!  Survive the hunt!]

 Rei was confused by the information that came to his mind and digested what was happening.

 Before he had time to understand it all, a silver wedge stuck between his legs, the cheers of people echoed in the distance.

 The torches shone like a will o wisp in the middle of a pitch black forest.

 "He's still alive! Over here!"  shouted one man in a white robe and a red cross on his shirt. 

 Although already inhabited by a new spirit and life, Silas Carnielle's wild instincts as an Lycan seemed to command Rei's subconscious to run away.

 Despite the low light, Rei could see very clearly like in the daytime.

 He was surprised by the ability of his new body, agile and strong.  He can reach a distance of tens of meters in one jump.

 Even so, the hunters were stronger and faster.  Two people chased after him like winds from behind.

 Silver Wedges shot like arrows, even through tree trunks.

 "Who the hell are they!"  cursed Rei while continuing to run.

 Dense vegetation and steep terrain slowed him down quite a bit.  Dozens of silver Wedges rained down on him from behind until they finally hit his calf and fell to the ground.

 "Fuck!  My legs!"

 Rei cursed at his feet and holds the wound dearly. The silver wedge was very effective at immobilizing him.  He crawled among the bushes and hoped to escape his hunter's pursuit.

 Despair ran through his mind as two people in white robes landed in front and behind him.

 "Finally!  Ha ha!  We defeat this village Lycan!  If we retrieve his head, our Pope will grant us hefty rewards and raise our ranks!"

 "Damn right, my brother!"

 "I have to escape! I won't die for the second time!"

 With all his strength, Rei pulled out the wedge stuck in his calf and hobbled away.

 "Seems like our prey want to play a bit longer, my brother!"

 "Yes, lets see how far you can run from us!"

 Rei ran and kept running, he didn't care about the blood running down his legs.  After a while, the wound on his calf began to close, but slower than before.

 He was lucky enough, the denser trees helped Rei to outwit his pursuers.

 He managed to hide in a big tree with a fairly large branch.  For a while, he could take a breath and rest.

"Finally!  Ha ha!  We defeat this Lycan!  If we retrieve his head, The Pope will grant us hefty rewards and raise our ranks!"

 "Damn right, my brother. Hahaha!"

 Right at that moment, adrenaline surged inside him.  Survive was the only thing that he could think of.

 Rei was even surprised by his body's ability to climb hundreds of meters high trees with ease.

 In the midst of his confusion, the text message appeared again in front of Rei's eyes.

 [Bloodrage is Ready]

 "Bloodrage?"  Rei touched the text floating in the air, then the explanation about Bloodrage opened.

 [Bloodrage: You will shapeshift into Wolf Form.  Increase Overall Status by 200%]

 "What? It means I can run and jump twice as fast than before?"

 Whoosshh!  Twack!

 The silver wedge stuck in the tree trunk, if it was even a second late, the silver wedge would definitely make a new hole in his head.

 When Rei cast his gaze in the direction the silver wedge came from, two hunters in white robes with a red cross pattern on their chest were already on the opposite tree.

 "There you are! You mongrel pup!"  said one of the hunter.  This time he drew the sword from its scabbard, then jumped onto the branch of the tree where Rei was.

Buk! Tink!

In his surprise, Rei's new body could avoid the sword attack and jumped back to the higher branch.

 "Haha! Just surrender and you'll die painlessly!" One of the hunter was furious and he began to emitted his aura.

 "To hell with you guys!"

 "Bah! Hahahaha! You are now just a mere mortal! It truly is a miracle you can survive the previous attack! You are just miserable, you can't shapeshift into Wolf Form, not to mention your Level is just them 1 Star right now!"

 "Shut up!"

 The wild instincts of an Alpha Lycan began to dominate Rei's mind.  The anger was so strong it made his blood boil.

 He could feel a power coursing through his veins.

 "Die! You vile creature!"

 One hunter who was in front of Rei jumped into the air and swung his sword overhead.

 Rei jumped and pounced on the hunter, with one swoop. With just one move the hunter's head was snatched. The body was limped and fell to the ground.

 Swwiiifttt!

 Another hunter threw the silver wedge once more at Rei, but this time he was able to deflect easily like a fly.

 Rei's blue eyes flashed in the air. Hiis body became more muscular and strong. His claws extended on each finger.

The beast inside him was awakened and made the hunter shudder in fear.

The another hunter was frightened and almost pissed himself when he saw Rei who had almost completely transformed into a Lycan.

 He immediately fired a magic flare to tell the other hunters where he was to call back up.

 Loud explosions and white light illuminate the entire forest.  The torches that had been scattered in the forest started moving towards Rei's location very quickly.

 As a hunter who is now being hunted, Rei knows very well how wolves avoid being chased by hunters.

 He immediately turned and went down to forest floor.  He was sure the thick snow on the ground would make it difficult for them to follow in his track.

Rei ran amuck in such pattern to outwit his pursuers. He made fake track and jumped to branch one after another.

 Rei kept running until he finally came to a big waterfall.  The cheers of the hunters echoed behind him, he realized there was no more time to hesitate.

 The worst thing is that Rei could die of hypothermia.  However, it was better than dying at the hands of the hunters.

Rei did a Leap of Faith, straight into the strong torrents of the waterfall below.

 The hunters chasing Rei stopped their steps at the edge of the cliff with a torch in one hand.

 A knight in full armor and riding a bulky horse stopped behind his subordinates and said "Did we lose that Lycan?"

 "Sir Henry! Sorry the Lycan got away! He was so resilient!"  said one hunter to his knees beside the knight's horse.

 Plaak!

 A hard whip landed on the hunter's cheek, causing a wide open wound from the cheek to the corner of his lips.

 "Useless bastard! Quickly find him! Or spend your time in the grave starting tomorrow!"

 "Yes my lord!"  they replied in unison with fear
