Chapter 3: Ch. 3 – Survival In The Wilderness

The fierce river currents made Rei's body tossed violently, sank to the bottom of the river and then surfaced again and again.

 His whole body was injured because he was repeatedly hit by sharp and rocky rocks.  The vitality and toughness of his body as a Lycan could at least keep Rei awake.

 However, that doesn't mean he's immune to pain.  His whole body was like being slashed by thousands of knives.

 The swift current rolled Rei's body to the bottom of the river until his head hit a big rock.

 His sight was reddened due to his blood  and his conscious slowly faded away.

 At that moment, the image of Silas Carnielle's memories vaguely swirled in Rei's mind.

 When he closed his eyes, his mind seemed to have entered another dimension.  It was dark and cold, there was only one faint ray of light floating in the center of the dimension.

 At first Rei was a little hesitant to touch the beam.  However, he needed information about Silas Carnielle's world.

 Tap!

 When his fingertip touched the dimmed light ball.  Rei seemed to be drawn to Silas' childhood memories.

 Growing up in a harsh and abusive world, Silas' father was an iron-fisted Alpha while his mother was unknown.

 Little Silas grew up to be a hard-hearted boy.  He was nicknamed the Bastard son of Northendale due to his status as motherless kid.

 The ridicule grew even more intense when people found out his Spirit Aptitude was really bad.  Silas's power level is only 1 Star Realm!  He couldn't even advance to the 2 Star Realm even when he was already 7 years old.

 When he was growing up, Silas's father died mysteriously. Rumor has it that Walter Carnielle was dead due to poisoning.

 As a Lycan with a long bloodline, he was crowned a Baron in Northendale City.

 Being weak and always isolated made him depressed and fed up with his life.  None of his subordinates want to admit himself as a leader.

 They run their job out of a sense of loyalty to Silas' father, Walter Carnielle.

 Silas didn't care about Northendale, who was getting worse with debt and corruption.

 He gave all of Northendale's administration to Butler.  He did not care about the state of the city from which there was wine and women to accompany him.

 Northendale looked fine until finally the destruction came.

 In the middle of a peaceful night, the hunters of The Holy Church's messengers attack Carnielle's castle, killing all the castle's employees and forcing Silas to flee due to being outnumbered.

 Silas Carnielle is wanted by The Holy Church on charges of using forbidden magic.

 No one knew who had started the slander, the last things in Silas' memory were the burning castle and the face of a blonde knight who led the attack on his castle.

 When the memory stopped, Rei realized that he was drowning in the current in the river.

 His chest began to suffocated from being in the water for too long.  Rei didn't know which was up and down when he drowned in pitch black water.

 With the remaining strength Rei tried to reach the surface.  However, once again he hit a rock and made him half conscious.

 Desperate, Rei thought that he was destined to die.  However, in the midst of his despair.  Rei faintly saw the faint glint of the moonlight above his head and make his way up.

 He took a deep breath as his head surfaced out of the water.  However, due to his extremely weak condition he fainted again.

 Moments later he woke up on the river bank and vomited the water he swallowed.  A sour taste rose in his throat and mouth.

 Rei slowly opened his eyes and felt the wounds on his body begin to regenerate slowly on the river bank.

Rei got up and limped his way into the forest to seek a shelter. But also he wasn't too far from the river so he wouldn't get lost amidst the forest that was unknown to him.

As Rei's vision slowly adapted to the darkness of his surroundings, he was greatly amazed by the night view of the forest.

Dense trees grew tens of meters high above Rei's head. All the surrounding plants emit bioluminescent lights, glowing colourfully like neons amidst the darkness.

The leaves of the plant emitted greenish light. Meanwhile, there was a cluster of gigantic mushrooms up to one meter high and up to two meters wide glowing green, purple and blue on the big tree trunks.

Even the grass he stepped on gave off a green light along with every step he took. Rei kept walking until finally he came to a humongous banyan tree with hanging roots that glowed reddish and dangled down to the ground.

Rei sat under that big banyan tree to catch his breath while he scanned his surroundings. From the greenery and dense vegetation around him, he instantly knew that he was in a lower altitude and warmer area of the land.

Rei put off his tattered tunic shirt and checked his body if there was any injury left. Although his wounds was perfectly healed and he doesn't feel pain anymore, he was quite wary he would get hypothermia since only gods know how long he was washed away by the river's currents.

Luckily, although his clothes were soaked wet by the freezing cold water, Rei doesn't feel any cold whatsoever due to his body's high metabolism as a Lycan.

"Seems like this body has already adapted to the cold," Rei mumbled as he squeezed the water from his tattered tunic.

Grumble!

Rei's stomach started to rumble, with a body that has a high metabolism, meaning he also needs a lot of energy intake.

He used to starve for days and eat only packaged MRE during hunting. However, the hunger he faced at that time was so excruciating, his throat felt very thirsty, he could feel his mind was being torn apart and crazed by his hunger.

The Beast's instincts make him want to eat other animals and eat meat until he is satisfied.

"I need to find something to eat or I will go crazy at this rate!"

When Rei was about to venture the deeper part of the jungle, suddenly there was a wind that blew from behind, all the light of the surrounding bioluminescent plants dimmed down and made the surroundings dark and only illuminated by the moonlight.

Ding!

[Warning! Danger is approaching!]

Rei immediately could smell the stench and heard a pack of animals approaching him. When the animals got close enough to him, the four eyes glowed red in the darkness. Then, red streaks flashed from their head across their spines and end up to their spiky tail tips.

They growled and barked and showing their big teeth inside their jaws, those animals were so ferocious and almost made Rei shudder. 

Their big and ugly jaws full with sharp triangle teeth like a shark.

Rei couldn't believe it when he saw those weird animals that almost resemble a wolf but with bigger and muscular features that stood with their six legs 8 feet tall.

"What the hell are those things!"
