Chapter 6: Chapter 3: A World Where Women Can’t Stand Men

Taking Lake's hand, Seia slowly pulled herself to her feet.

"Just to make it clear, I'm only doing this because you forced me to," she said.

"That's fine. I don't mind taking advantage of people."

"This is why I hate you men..." she grumbled.

The two of them continued to make their way through the forest. Seia led the way, taking him toward one of the main cities in the area. She appeared hesitant as Lake glanced around ignorantly.

"By the way, the others might not like you very much."

"Oh? So, what's exactly the deal between men and women here?"

"You say that as if you think that you're equal to us. If you don't get it, just think of the relationship between pigs and humans."

"Ah. Well, I'm glad you're frank about it."

"Why would I not be? It's not like I'm saying anything crazy."

After a little while, they arrived on the outskirts of a very large and densely-populated city. It was surrounded by a thick but not very overly-tall wall. Seia quickly stepped in front of Lake and cautioned him.

"S-so... the guards here might not be very happy ab—"

"Are you trying to lead me to my death."

"W-wha...? I'd never do that... probably..."

"Do men actually coexist with women here?"

Drips of sweat gathered on Seia's forehead as she hesitantly answered his question.

"Um... well, men are allowed to live here... in the stables."

"Ah, I guess I was expecting something like that."

"That's not very comfortable. I'm just saying."

Seia took a few steps back, shuffling toward the front gates of the city. Lake considered the fact that she could just escape once they enterred the city. Considering the discrimination that men faced, Seia could quite easily get help from any of the guards. Seia stared at him silently, trying to communicate something with her eyes.

"I'm not sure exactly what you're doing, but I'll just say this now. I probably can't force you to continue staying with me, so it's your choice."

"W-wait, you're releasing me?"

"I mean, I'm not going to fight an army of guards just to keep you by my side. If you want to continue being with me then I welcome it. Otherwise, feel free to leave now."

"U-um..."

Seia was slightly conflicted; the fact was that Lake wasn't exactly the nicest person, and being associated with a man was rather unpleasant in the first place. However, she suffers in the castle at the hands of a sadistic general despite her relatively high rank, and she lacks friends despite being around so many different people.

She stopped for a short moment.

"C-can I think about it?"

"Sure."

Walking a few steps in front, she led Lake to the front gate. They were quickly greeted by two guards, both of which were women, as expected. Holding long, elegant spears, they were very cautious of Lake.

However, that didn't stop them from bowing down at the sight of Seia.

"Lieutenant Colonel Seia, welcome back."

"Thanks, girls."

"Sorry to ask, who's that filthy man behind you?"

"Don't mind him. He's with me."

After receiving some scathing glares from the guards, Lake simply followed Seia inside, completely disregarding them. Taking a few steps inside, he asked Seia a somewhat personal question.

"How come a high-ranking officer like you can still manage to get abused."

"I-it's not abuse... it's just... a punishment... of sorts."

"Pretty weird way to punish a high-ranking officer, I'm just saying."

"D-don't mind it! I deserved it anyways."

"If you say so."

The suspicious glares only increased in number as more people saw the two of them walking through the street. Most of them refrained from openly commenting about it due to Seia's presence, but it was clear that Lake was being looked at like some hideous monster.

"Where are you leading me?" Lake asked.

"I need to report back to the general. You should probably go toward the stables."

"Ah. I guess so."

"U-um... I'll come to visit you... if I feel like it, you know. You were pretty mean to m—"

"It's fine. Which direction is it in?"

"It's in that direction."

With that, the two of them separated, and Lake walked along the path toward the stables. However, as soon as Seia left his side, he was suddenly approached by several other women. They all had very unpleasant expressions.

"What's a man like you doing here?!"

"Eh? I'm going towards the stables."

From the crowd, a rock was suddenly tossed straight at Lake's head. With a swing of his arm, he was able to block it. It crashed to the ground and rolled around a little. It was made abundantly clear that Lake wasn't appreciated there.

Still, Lake wasn't fazed, still single-mindedly making his way over. Plenty of insults were lobbed at him in the meantime.

"...Go back to your pen, you disgusting creature!"

"... Cockroaches like you should stay in the sewers!"

"...You're staining our beautiful city!"

Despite the fact that most people were acting openly angry at his presence, some silently stared at him from a distance—good-looking men were generally few and far between in this world.

Eventually, he got far enough away from the city centre that he was able to get out of the line of fire from all of the women. However, to his surprise, the stables were heavily populated by men, but not any men, incredibly overweight, ugly and grimy men—many of them looked as if they had monster blood as well. However, it only made them more unattractive.

All around, there were various weapons on the ground, people spoke in unnecessarily loud voices, and the general atmosphere was quite toxic. 

Immediately, Lake was approached by someone who was half-skeleton. With a humanoid face, the left half of their body was that of a skeleton, purely bone.

"You look like someone who's normal!" he shouted.

"Huh."

"Everyone here's insane!"
