Chapter 17: Chapter Seventeen- the burning village…

Chapter Seventeen

After hesitating for a small while, Claire and Clara decided to follow my lead.

The mysterious aura I felt, kept getting stronger and stronger, the closer I got to the statue.

This must be it!

And it came into view/

A small stone-looking shrine was watched over a singular stone statue, the statue had the appearance of what i could only describe as, God-like.

However, one thing caught my eye.

And that was the red diamond gem sitting in the center of the shrine, just waiting to be grabbed.

The gem pulled me closer to it, and before Claire or Clara could stop me, I already had it in my hands.

I thought something was about to happen, so I unsheathed my sword, while Claire and Clara did the same. However, nothing did.

After a couple minutes of silence, I let out a sigh of relief.

“You two, let’s get out of this damned place!” I said while keeping my sword out and retracing the way we had come in.

Only once we had left the forest and were now on the main road from the village, is when I truly let my guard down.

“Hey guys, don’t tell anybody about this Gem yet, when the time is right we will tell them,” I said while putting the Red Gem into my pocket.

After nodding we decided to head back, it was about time for dinner anyways and we were all extremely hungry.

What made me happy was, unlike the last time walking home. Claire and Clara seemed to be getting along, talking about girly stuff…

Once we got back home, we had dinner. And I was extremely happy that Liza made her special chicken soup, however, the person who ate more than me, was Claire. She is what you would call, a big glutton.

After chatting to everybody about the experiences me and Claire had over the past Eight or so months, I decided to take a shower and go to sleep, Since we were back, Clara decided to stay over. However, I couldn’t imagine both Claire and Clara sleeping in my room.

We talked for a bit and then went to sleep with relaxed smiles on our faces…

 

“Arghhhh! It hurts!"

I was woken up by a scream, and someone tugging me.

The person tugging me was Claire, and she was looking anxious.

“James wake up! Your mother is giving birth!” she said while now violently shaking me

However, when she said Elizabeth was giving birth, my eyes were wide awake. It was happening now? wasn't it a bit too early?

With the screaming echoing through the house, I rushed into the living room where Edward was.

“James I need you to run with Claire to get to the doctor, knowing your speed, you should be able to get to the doctor and back in under thirty minutes. Right now Your father is with Elizabeth, along with the maid and that young girl, now hurry!

Edward who was always a relaxed character had a look of panic in his eyes. As a father would be, with his daughter giving birth.

“After nodding, both me and Claire who were still in our pyjamas grabbed our shoes and ran to the village.

Luckily Liza was trained in delivering babies, however, we still needed a proper doctor to check on the health of the baby once it was born.

However, I was dumbfounded to find smoke coming from the village, so I and Claire decided to run even faster.

When we reached the village, I almost threw up.

The whole village was on fire and there we corpse’s lying all across the street.

I could see the doctor that we were meant to go get with a hole through his chest.

“W-What happened here!?” Claire said while covering her mouth in shock...

“Claire wait here! I need to go get Mrs. Strothings!

“Wait James, it’s too dangerous!” Claire shouted

However, I ignored her and ran into the flames which made me suffocate and begun to burn my flesh.

Although I had been to this village multiple times, with it covered in ash and flames, it was hard for me to navigate to Mrs. Strothings shop.

However when I was navigating the flames I could hear a scream, so I ran towards it. Only to see a mysterious man in black holding up a woman by the throat, and that woman was Mrs. Strothings.

“Hey, you bastard! Let her go!”

However he did not, it was like he did not even feel my presence, was he that strong? Was I just an ant?

However, Mrs. Strothings looked at me and smiled, With the last bit of her strength and spoke seven words...

"Please take care of Clara for me." However right after she said that, the man squeezed her throat, killing her.

He then looked up to the mountain, to my house, and vanished.

we have to head home right away!

I already knew Mrs. Strothings was dead, however, I ran over to her anyways and started crying.

She was always nice to me, yet I couldn’t even save her, I couldn’t save Clara’s mother. I just watched helplessly without being able to do a thing.

However, I made a promise.

“I promise you that I will use my life to protect Clara, you can trust me. I said before running to where Claire, who was worriedly waiting for me. I was burned and on the verge of passing out.

“Claire, we have to get back home, it’s not safe!” I said while grabbing onto Claire and pulling her.

“What do you mean it’s not safe? Hey, answer me, James! What do you mean!?” the innocent girl with the pure white hair which had turned gray with ash landing on said.

“Shut up!” I shouted while facing her, making her show a face that I had only seen her show once before.

Fear.

“Ah- I’m sorry, but please just listen to me for now, ill explain later so please just follow me home!”

I said while I started to turn around and run.

“Okay, ill trust you James. I’ll always trust you, however, I’m scared, I’m really scared. Please tell me what happened to the village later.” Claire said as she brushed the tears out of her eyes and let out a small small smile, before running besides me.

After a nod, we decided to sprint back home up the mountain.
