Chapter Twenty Three

When I looked to my left, I could see three highly dignified people with pieces of paper next to them on the desk.

Two of them introduced themselves, however the last did not.

The woman on the far left. “Hello, I am Kate Livingstone, I am the student council president, and one of the three judges, marking down your combat strength.” The girl called Kate was a sixteen-ish-year-old looking girl, she was very busty and her eyes looked as if they were home to thousands of little galaxies. Her hair was sprightly golden blond and tinted with white streaks along her bangs.

The woman in the middle. “I am the school director and the principal of the school, my name is Catherine Crowfall.” Although I had already known her name, seeing her in the flesh was truly awe-inspiring. She was one of the few Emperor Rank Swordsmen in the world, truly a height that most people could only wish to reach.

the man to the right and the most boring one was the vice principal, he just nodded without saying anything nobody knew his rank besides the school director.

“Well, then James.” The student council president said with a majestic tone. “You are the third Wrathead today to come through these doors, I just hope you are as good or even better than those young flowers that came in before you.”

Next, the director sat up and spoke.

“Now, James you have probably noticed that there is a man behind you.”

“Yes, I noticed when I walked in” I replied. I had noticed him however I had not said hello.

“He is the vice president of the student council, Smith Cornwall, you will have a spar with him, and in the process of that, we will be marking down your performance and evaluating it before designating you between either S-C class, now take your stance.” While saying that, the director sat down and waited until I was in stance.

“You may proceed.”

With the words of the student council president, the duel began.

I started by increasing my speed with the water form, rushing towards the still unmoving Cornwall. However he rushed toward me while boosting his strength with the fire form.

This is going to be troublesome, however, I have no time to waste thinking about such meaningless things, on the battlefield, one mistake means everything.

It is power vs speed, I can only hope that I am on a higher level of mastery with my sword form.

I slash down and begin thinking of my next strategy. It was obvious that he had blocked my attack without being fazed, Cornwall had experience which I had not, giving him the clear advantage.

I charge again, narrowly dodging a swing that could’ve poked my eye out, instead cleanly cutting my cheek. But now with this close of a distance, he surely wouldn't be able to dodge.

However, he grins.

I stop immediately and retreat a few steps back.

Why was he grinning? Had he anticipated my movement? That was the most likely outcome, it looks like I’ll have to play a little dirty in order to win.

I now activated my earth form.

I could see Cornwall’s eyes open slightly, it looks like he isn’t informed of what I possess…

“You may have two sword forms, however, it cannot balance out the lack of experience that you have,” Cornwall said while suddenly dashing into my blind spot.

“Shit” I muttered. He had sped up into my blind spot so that I couldn’t reach it in time with my earth form.

A flaw on his part.

It’s not like I didn’t expect this to happen, Back when I was training with my sword forms, the main thing that I have been trying to do was decrease the amount of time I needed each time to switch, I had almost gotten it down to under a second, truly a short time, with this in mind, I switched back to using my water form and dodged Cornwall’s attack.

And I slash down, although he almost fully dodged it, I still nip his shoulder with my sword, causing some blood to drip out.

“You may be right, I lack experience, however, that is why I have come to this school!”

I swing down again, he intends to block it, however.

I have won.

“But senior Cornwall, you were wrong about one thing, just one crucial thing.

When I said this, I could almost feel like the Director let out a small smirk.

I swung down while using the Fire form to boost my power.

“Its not just water and earth I can control.”

I slashed down, and with this collision, both of us were sent flying back.

Struggling to get up I hear Cornwall’s voice.

“You are a complete and utter monster.” he said while laughing, I guess it was his way of complimenting me…

However, when I turned up to look at him, thinking that he was already up, I was shocked to see him lying on the floor. It looked like he had lost consciousness.

“The match is over, the winner is James Wrathead.”

With this, I had done everything in my ability to win, and even someone like me was completely exhausted, I almost fell to the floor right there...

“James Wrathead.” The director looked up at me. “You are a promising figure, if you keep up in training, you will eventually be an unparalleled genius, this school will try its hardest to ensure that you grow up in a safe environment, and with that said, here is your paper. Congratulations you will be assigned to the same class as those two little girls." The director said while winking at me. I guess she knew that I could control the root, however, she said nothing. What a mysterious person.

After bidding farewell and taking my leave, I turned and looked at the two girls who were waiting nervously for me, however when they noticed me they suddenly came running up.

“So, how did you do?” they said in unison.

However I just handed them my paper, and after a few seconds they both let out a cry of happiness.

“Yay, we will all be in the same class until we graduate!” Claire burst out and tightly hugged me.

“It’s only natural that James would be put in S class,” Claire said while jumping with joy. All the previous anxiety from the morning had completely vanished.

“Well, lets go have a walk around campus before it gets too late, alright?” I said while shoving my paper in my pocket.

“Alright!” the two girls said while they grabbed one of my hands each and pulled me outside.
