Chapter Thirty Six

Walking for another hour or so, we finally found a good place to settle down for the remainder of the night, it was getting pretty dark so we quickly gathered the sticks for the campfire and set up the tents.

“Hey, Rosemary,” Violet said.

Rosemary was one of the best first-year students, it could be said she was the strongest of the girls.

“Could you please go gather some more sticks? We only need a few more.” Violet asked.

“Yes, Senior Violet, ill be back soon.” And as she said that she went in a completely new direction to find some sticks.

“Hey, Violet do you think it’s all right to leave that girl to go by herself?” Surprisingly the one who spoke up was Sydney. However, after thinking about it for a while, Sydney always had a soft spot for the younger kids, so it was only natural that she would worry.

“She should be fine, however, if you are so worried about her then go with her.

After pondering for a bit, Sydney Nodded and went in the same direction as Rosemary had.

“All right, but be careful,” I said before going back to help cook the food on the campfire. With Sydney going with Rosemary then everything should be fine.

However, thirty minutes later I could hear the shout of Sydney.

“Help!”

 

(Sydney’s POV) (Thirty Minutes Before)

 

“Rosemary, are you all right?” I asked, but there was no response.

Where is that girl?

Walking for a bit longer, I suddenly stopped. I could hear a scream coming from further inside the forest.

“Rosemary!” I rushed towards the source of the scream as fast as I could.

What was there?

There was a giant wolf, it had huge spikey red horns going down its spine and was covered in thick grey fur. One could smell the blood coming from its body, and it was not its own blood. Just how many people had this thing killed?

Wasn’t the forest meant to be safe from beasts?

I looked in the direction of where the wolf was looking, to see Rosemary who was unconscious.

“You bastard!”

I rushed forwards pulling out my sword.

The wolf swung its sharp claws at me and slightly scraped my shoulder. I could feel the hot blood flow and stain my clothes.

“How dare you hurt my junior! I’ll kill you!” with a scream I dodged another one of the wolf’s attacks, however on the battlefield even a minute wasted would be certain death, I couldn’t think of much so I slashed down towards its eye.

It dodged out the way, however, I was able to slice its ear off and it howled in pain.

This wolf was fast.

Was it seriously this fast? I couldn’t keep up with it. Was I going to die here?

No. I can’t.

I am well versed in the Ice Sword form, which gave me an all round balance in my physical abilities, such as speed and strength.

. While charging forwards I activated my sword form and aimed for its legs.

If I could immobilize it, then I should be able to kill it.

However, it started to dodge away from my attacks to its legs.

Did it have intelligence?

This was a complete gamble, if I failed now then it would be all over.

The sound of the wolf cried out, I looked around to see it falling onto the floor.

*Sigh*

I wiped off the sweat from my forehead.

however before I could take a rest...

“Ah, I forgot about Rosemary!” I quickly ran towards her, relieved to see that she was just unconscious due to shock, it looks like there was no physical injury.

When I looked to the right, I could see a pile of sticks that she had collected.

“Good girl,” I smiled before putting her on my back and walking back to camp, Although I have killed the wolf, it still had ripped a bit of my shoulder clean off, id need to get it cleaned and bandaged up before it gets infected.

After a while, I could see the fire of the campfire.

“Help!” I cried out.

 

(James POV) (Present Time)

 

“Sydney are you alright? What happened to your shoulder!?” Ralph said while rushing towards her and helping get Rosemary off of her back.

“I ran into a wolf, however, I was able to kill it, luckily Rosemary wasn’t injured, she just lost consciousness due to shock.

I breathed a sigh of relief, however. “Sydney, your shoulder must be in pain, come over here let me clean it up and bandage it for you.

“Thanks, James.” She replied before coming to me to the senior’s tent while Ralph checked up on Rosemary and while Violet looked around the perimeter.

“Sydney, that was reckless, luckily you only got out with a scrape, call for help next time,” I said, however, she retorted.

“If I left it any longer then Rosemary, she, she would have been killed!” Sydney truly cared for the younger kids.

She also seemed to change slightly. Her attitude was different now.

“Well you did the right thing, thank you for keeping her safe ill report it to the principal when we get back,” I said while applying the alcohol to clean the bandage.

Sydney squealed at first however she responded.

“Thanks.”

After bandaging her up, we decided to join violet and secure the perimeter with some alchemit, it was a kind of chemical powder that would divert any animals or predators away from it, and using it to create a border around the camp was a good idea.

After confirming that everything was all right, we settled down the nervous first years and checked up on Rosemary to see her doing fine.

“Luckily nothing bad happened to you, however, I’m sorry, it was my fault that got you guys into such a predicament.” Violet bowed down and apologized.

She must have felt guilty for asking Rosemary to go fetch more sticks.

“It’s fine, it was strange that there were even beasts in this area,” Sydney said.

However, what she said was correct. Why was there a wolf in this area to begin with? Wasn’t the forest meant to be beast free? Well, I guess ill look more into it tomorrow.

However, for tonight, I guess we just eat and go to sleep…
