Chapter Thirty Seven

The next morning, I woke up early, although we had put a barrier around the camp we still had to be on alert.

“Good morning Violet.” I yawned while stretching my arms. Violet was cooking my breakfast for me.

“Ah, good morning James, are you ready for today?” she asked, somewhat worriedly.

Why was that? Well, last night we decided that one of us would go and check out the situation in the forest while the others stayed with the first years.

And that person was me.

“Well, yeah It’s something I have to do to keep the first years safe after all,” I responded.

If I couldn’t locate the source of the reason why there was a beast in such a peaceful forest, then some incident may occur in the possible future.

After eating the bacon roll that Violet had made me, I got up and grabbed my sword from the tent and headed out.

“I’ll be back soon, I won’t be long,” I said before waving back at the first years who were occupied by Ralph and Sydney.

“Take care senior James!” some of the kids said.

All right, I guess I'll head to the most suspicious place, the area where Rosemary encountered the giant wolf last night.

After walking for a bit, It didn’t take long before I could see the corpse of the wolf which was already half eaten and beginning to rot.

As I suspected, there’s got to be more of them here.

I unsheathed my sword, although it was unlikely that one would attack me right now, one could never be so certain.

I continued to walk deeper into the heart of the forest, and the atmosphere seemed to change.

What was different? Looking around nothing seemed to have changed, however, I felt a dark, almost murderous aura all around me.

Were they all around me? Had I fallen into their trap?

I braced myself.

*slash*

Suddenly an arm came rushing towards me. However, I remained calm. If I hadn’t then I would not have gotten through the six years of school.

I slashed down, a clean cut.

The bear let out a scream. Although I had cut off its arm, it continued to rush at me, however this time it was not just one arm, but multiple arms of countless beasts charging at me with murderous aura.

Massive tigers with deformed body proportions, more giant wolfs with red, green, blue, and black spikes appearing along their spines and giant black bears with red eyes that illuminated even in the light.

These beasts were not average, furthermore they seemed abnormal.

Why were they different? And why were such huge and murderous beasts in this forest?

However, with many questions and no answers, one thing became clear.

I had to get rid of every single one of them here, or more innocent people would be killed.

I began to rush through the flood of beasts while my Fire Sword Form activated.

Blood spattered everywhere, however, although there was an endless slaughter, I could see no end to the hordes of beasts.

“Fuck.” Blood that didn’t belong to me was now covering my entire of body.

“Die you piece of shits!” I screamed out and continued my endless slaughter, on the odd time I got slashed in the shoulders, arms, and legs. However, no hits were directed at my back.

I wouldn’t allow them.

I continued my mindless rage, not caring weather I was attacked, all i cared about was killing these things.

……….

..

“It’s over…” I huffed completely out of breathe.

However I was in no condition to speak, I had been hit too many times and the mixed blood was seeping into my cuts, I was probably in worse shape now than when I had got stabbed at the start of school.

However while endlessly slaughtering through the mass amounts of beasts, I discovered something.

Something that made my heart drop and my mind turn blank.

A podium with a stone statue, and a small shrine-like space that held something, however that space was empty.

The only thing that could fit that shape and size, was the red gem. was there more of them?

What did this mean? Why was this here? And where was the gem? I could tell without a second thought that this was the same podium-like structure that I found the red gem in.

The same gem that led to the death of Clara’s mother, my father, and grandfather….

However I couldn’t dwell on it for too long, if it was gone then it was gone, it just meant that the mysterious man had been here before. And the occurrence of the beasts were related to him.

However, why did they suddenly appear?

Was it because the gem was gone? However, it wasn’t certain how long ago the it was taken.

I didn’t know...

But I had to get back to the camp, I was extremely injured and we were heading back today.

It took me a lot more time to walk back. I was dripping blood each stride and was continuously getting dizzier and dizzier.

However, I eventually passed the small powder restriction border that we set up last night.

I finally got into the camp, however, I tried to hide from the first years, them seeing me like this would be the worst thing possible.

i walked towards the seniors tent.

“Sydney!” I got into the tent and fell. I started to lose consciousness, however, I saw Sydney running towards me.

….

……..

..

I woke up to the worried faces of Violet and Ralph. I looked around to see Sydney not there, where was she?

“Where’s Sydney?” I asked. However, I didn’t get an answer. “Never mind that James, what happened? Who got you into such a state?!” Ralph exclaimed, I mean I couldn’t blame him. I probably looked terrible.

However before I could answer, Sydney returned, and her hands were completely wrinkled and red, her skin was cracking. She was holding a bucket of water and a cloth.

I guess she had wiped me down from bottom to top and bandaged me up.

Honestly… I sighed.

“Sydney, thank you, but I’m all right now, go take a rest,” I said.

although hesitant at first she agreed.

“All right, but don’t move so much, I just cleaned the wounds and bandaged them up, they will bleed if you move.” She said, and after I nodded she finally breathed out in relief.

“Anyways James!” Ralph said again. “What happened!”

“It’s a long story,” I responded with a faint smile.
