Chapter Thirty Eight

However, they were Desperate to know what had happened to me.

It didn’t take long to explain that because I left out the main point about the podium and the shrine.

After talking for a while, we decided to pack everything up and head back to the school, although I had gotten rid of most of the beasts here, it didn’t mean that all of them were accounted for. Some could still be roaming about, and we weren’t going to take any chances.

It didn’t take us long to get out of the forest, however, I was in agony, even though some of my wounds had reopened and blood was spilling out, I had Ralph and Violet holding me up most of the way back.

Not a lot of words were exchanged, and to be honest I felt pretty bad. Even though we were going to be heading back today anyways, we still had almost the full day to do so, I hope the first years understand that we did this for them…

Surprisingly nobody complained, all the first years were walking without complaint while exchanging a conversation once in a while.

Before long we finally got back to the gates of the school and after bumping into a teacher to whom we handed the first years, in which they thanked us. Then we went straight to the principal’s office.

The others were adamant that I went to the nurse, however, I shoved that idea aside. The story had to be told from the source.

We finally got to the door, however just before we were about to knock a voice came from behind the door.

“Come In.”

Almost like she knew we were here, the principal called us forth.

We nervously looked at each other before walking in.

“Come, sit, especially you James, for god’s sake.” The principal shook her head before continuing. “You should have gone straight to the nurse’s office, now come tell me what happened, you should have been back around night time, why did you come back so early? And how did you get those wounds?” So many questions just as I walked in…

After I sat down alongside Violet, Ralph, and Sydney, Sydney explained what had happened to her and Rosemary on the first night.

When the principal heard about the giant wolf, her eyes opened a bit. Even someone as great as her could show expressions like this…

And after Sydney had finished, I explained everything exactly how I did to the others.

“My, that is truly unfortunate, but thank you for telling me, and thank you for bringing back the first years safe. Bringing them back even an hour later could have gotten one killed, and James.” She paused for a second. “You did a great job killing all those beasts, however, look at the state of you… come now go to the nurse’s office.” With a shooing action, she lifted me and told Ralph to bring me to the nurse’s office.

While walking, Ralph spoke up.

“It’s good that the principal will go to the forest herself, with someone of her level checking it out, there should be nothing to worry about…”

I stopped.

What about the stone shrine? If the principal went, if I was able to find it, then surely she would be able to do so too!

*sigh*

I’ll deal with it after I have healed up. There are too many things going on in my mind right now, I need a place to calm down.

After Ralph brought me to the nurse’s office, and with the surprised school nurse pushing me onto a bed, I said goodbye to him while he waved and walked out of the room.

“I’ll come back later, all right?” He said while his voice became distant.

“Yeah!” I responded. Hopefully, he heard me.

“Boy you are lucky, if someone hadn’t done first aid on you, then you would have died for sure!” the old and stern-looking nurse said.

“Yes, I’m sorry,” I replied while scratching my head and smiling.

It seems like I owe Sydney, she helped me out this time. I’ll buy her something with the help of Rose, she has a better sense of fashion than me anyways…

Once the nurse finished stitching my wounds up and giving me some medicine, she let me rest on one of the beds for the rest of the day.

I lay staring up at the ceiling not knowing how much time had passed.

School is almost over. Only about one week or so left.

It’s almost time….

Trying to subdue my everlasting boredom, eventually, I could hear the door open.

It was probably Ralph coming-

“James!” a girl’s voice rang out.

I was wrong.

The voice came from someone whom I had not seen in two days.

It was the voice of Claire, and I could hear two more pairs of steps behind her presumably Clara and Rose.

“James, are you all right?!” Claire came around the corner, however, she stopped and put her hands on her mouth in shock when she saw me. “How did you get so injured?!” however her mood suddenly changed.

“Who injured you, tell me, and I’ll go kick their ass!” she said, meanwhile Clara and Rose turned the corner and pulled off the same expression as Claire did.

“I killed a couple of beasts,” I replied laughingly, however, the three girls ran towards me, obviously not believing me at first, eventually after telling them the story multiple times, and with their mixed expressions of, fear, anxiety, and relief, they finally settled down.

“You’re lucky enough to have gotten out alive! Don’t do anything so reckless again!” Clara said furiously at me for my actions.

“Well, ill be more prepared next time, so don’t worry about it, anyways enough about me, what did you girls do over the last few days?” I asked.

“Not a lot, just had some girl time and a couple of sleepovers, why? Do you want to know what we did at night? You naughty boy.” Rose said, giggling.

I was just curious, jeez…

After the mood lightened down a bit, I talked for a while before the girls went to get me a change of clothes and some food, I was staying over at the nurse’s office for tonight so they went to get some essentials.

And so I was stuck here again, alone.

But, not long after the girls left, Ralph came back with Violet and Sydney.
