Chapter Forty Four

The next day I awoke to the sounds of the birds chirping, the maids and butlers doing their casual things around the manor, and the sound of someone slowly opening my door.

Who was it? The footsteps grew nearer.

It was Kate… what was she doing here? Ah, that’s right, I and Elizabeth were planning to take her to the town over, for a day out.

Claire and Clara were with Beth today so it was just Me, Elizabeth, and Kate, accompanied by one of the maids.

I guess you could call it a family day out.

“Brother are you not up yet? Mother said we are leaving soon.” Kate said, her attitude showed clearly that she had gotten rid of her shy persona from last night.

“I’m getting up right now, tell her I’ll be ten or so minutes, all right?”

“All right, but make sure to brush your teeth!” after saying that, she walked away and went downstairs, probably to put her shoes on.

However, she was telling me to brush my teeth. Just who does she think I am?

“Haha.” I laughed out a little, she reminds me of my old sister just a little too much, I remember her scolding me for forgetting about it before going to school.

I wonder if I’ll ever see her.

My search for a way to bring her here isn’t bearing any fruit at the moment, however, I also realized something.

Would that be something she truly want? For example, if I was able to bring her here, and did. What would she think of me? I would have practically taken away her previous life, never mind the emotions she would feel knowing that I had been fine and had been living a decent life here.

Would she forgive me?

So many thoughts and emotions filled me.

However, I can only brush those thoughts aside for now, at the moment I need to get changed before I get scolded again.

Getting ready, I took the clothes that were set out for me today, luckily Steven had picked them out for me today, his fashion sense suits me a lot more than the girl’s, he picked a plain shirt with some basic trousers out for me, nothing over the top, and nothing that would shame Elizabeth’s fashion sense while walking with her.

After getting ready I went downstairs to see Elizabeth and Kate already waiting in the carriage for me, so I took the packed lunch that one of the maids had made me and decided to eat it while we were in the carriage. Although the town wasn’t too far away, It was far enough to give me enough time to eat my breakfast.

While I was stuffing my face with the ham sandwich, Elizabeth spoke up.

“Listen, James, you ought to wake up earlier, You should ask the maids to wake you up at a fixed time every day, why don’t you?” Elizabeth asked.

“Well, I don’t like being woken up too early,” I replied, however, I doubt she could hear me due to my mouth being half full.

Kate spoke up.

“Well ill wake you up every day at the same time to get you in a routine, okay?” she said with a smile.

How could I tell her no? she had such a precious smile on her.

“Sure, but not too early, all right?” After she replied with a warm nod, I smiled and started telling Elizabeth some other school stories.

“And so then I met this girl called Rose…”

Elizabeth’s bored and lazy eyes instantly shot toward me like a hawk.

“Rose? Whose rose? Is she a friend? Where does she live?” she asked all these questions, one after another, not giving me time to respond to the last…

Remembering back to the night before the graduation, I got a little embarrassed.

“S-shes just a friend” I stuttered, however, Elizabeth started giggling. She must have found something out. I put my head down in shame.

Kate was just confused. She hadn’t had a clue as to what Elizabeth meant.

“However, Claire and Clara think of her as a sister,” I said.

Elizabeth stopped and responded. “Well if those two girls like her, then she must be a good girl, anyways where does she live? Tell her to come around sometime.”

“That might be a bit difficult,” I responded.

“Why is that?” Elizabeth confused, asked.

It should be all right to tell her, I mean, she’s my mother. If anyone finds out, I’ll take the blame. Also Kate and the maid hearing it should also be fine.

“Rose is the princess of Selrone Kingdom.” I said. Everything went silent for a bit.

“Wow she’s a princess, that’s so cool, brother is she your friend?!” Kate asked with glistening eyes, I mean I guess all little girls dream about being a princess.

After nodding toward Kate, she let out a huge smile, and for the first time, she got up and hugged me.

It shook my heart.

“So, she’s the princess, huh? Wait, she’s the princess!!?” Elizabeth on the other hand, screamed in shock, almost causing the horses to go into a panic. Even the maid who had kept her composure after hearing such a thing almost jumped out in fright due to Elizabeth’s reaction.

However after she calmed down for a while, Elizabeth began to laugh.

“Haha, so my boy is a “friend” with a princess, well that’s good news, just make sure you see her again, or she won’t forgive you.” After scuffing up my hair, Elizabeth sat talking to the maid while I started into the distance pointing at stuff with Kate.

She’s more than my friend…

I longed for her, it’s not even been more than two days, however, I already miss her more than anything.

What is this feeling?....

After a little bit more time, we finally arrived at the small town which was our destination, however, our first stop unsurprisingly was the clothes store.

And unsurprisingly again, Elizabeth’s hobby of buying lots of clothes had rubbed off on Kate…

Was this a bad thing? Not really, this was a girls charm, however, I felt bad for the maid who had to carry everything, so although she was a little hesitant, she split and gave half the bags to me.

Our next destination was the large pond, we had brought a picnic and were going to the pond to eat it for lunch.

These are the days that I wish would last forever…
