Chapter Fifty Two- Spatial Rings

“What shop should we go to first?” I had no clue where to go and just followed Sydney’s lead, and by the look of it, neither did Violet nor Ralph, we continued to follow behind Sydney.

“Well first we should get some more gear,” Ralph interjected, and while that was a good plan, there was something else on my mind.

“Food.” Sydney stopped In front of a café.

My eyes lit up, flabbergasted look at Sydney, just how did she predict my thoughts?

Brushing that aside, he ordered some food, I went with the chicken curry, and so did Ralph, while Sydney and Violet both got some salad, just why had they gotten something so basic? Were women truly concerned about their health that much? However, what surprised me next was the massive cake that was brought out for us.

“Wow,” I exclaimed. Wow indeed, this cake was completely chocolate! Just how could a civilization so far behind my old worlds make chocolate cake? I didn’t know, yet I still took a piece. It melted in my mouth, the sweet nostalgic taste burst into my mouth.

“So good.” Four voices said out in unison.

We each looked at each other and laughed. After finishing the cake and finishing our lunch, we decided to get down to business.

“So, I’m thinking we get everybody some small spatial rings.” Sydney’s voice piped up.

“Spatial rings!? No Sydney! Do you know how much that cost??” Violet shook Sydney. I was speechless.

I had read about them in a book at the academy and had personally handled one before in class, they were rings with a small amount of magic, which created a small space to store stuff such as food, clothes, and items, they were extremely coveted, and nonetheless were just as expensive, they were a lost product, something only the magic casters of the long annihilated magic continent were able to make, there were probably under a thousand still left in this world, just where on earth were a bunch of B-rank adventurers meant to buy them?

“Well…” Sydney fidgeted with her fingers. And opened her hand.

Wait don’t tell me…

Violet quickly shut her hand and looked around “Sydney, don’t tell me, have you already got them!? Where did you get the money!” she shouted, however with the growing faces looking towards us, she lowered her voice. “Sydney where in the bloody hell did you get them?” Ralph and I were completely paralyzed with astonishment, had she stolen them? Or had she been scammed into buying some fakes?

“Well.” She quietly said. “Do you know how my family is super rich?”

We all nodded, she came from a wealthy family, however, she had insisted on becoming an adventurer. Her family respected her decisions and began to financially help her.

“Don’t tell us”…. Both I and Ralph came to a sudden comprehension.

“Well, this is a secret, so please don’t tell anyone.” She said. A family secret? Just how much trust did she put in us? We could only nod. We crossed our hearts to not tell another soul throughout our lives.

“Before the great war, my family’s patriarch married a woman from the magic continent, these are the four rings she brought with her, they are extremely important, originally my father was only going to give me one, however, he said that since I was the next head of the family, then the decision was mine to make, he trusts me so much, and I trust you guys.”

Such an innocent smile, how could I betray her trust? I swore at that moment, that if I ever leaked this to anyone, then my soul demon would come and take my life.

After that, she handed each of us a spatial ring, it looked like an ordinary ring, but, tapping its diamond jewel would allow the thing you were thinking of to come out, then again holding an item while tapping the jewel brought the item into the spatial area.

Following those bizarre events, we went to the Armor shop and bought a couple of pieces of Armor each, Ralph wanted to buy the coolest looking thing, however, knowing the quests that we were going to take weren’t of the highest level yet, Sydney stopped his indulges.

“Well we have most of the things we need, how about we head back to the inn and have a drink before accepting our first quest as a full party tomorrow.” Violet’s idea was met with much positivity, I couldn’t say I didn’t like my drink, however, more and more these past days, I have been resorting to using it to wash away my pains. Especially the pains of leaving the girls back at the family estate…

The Inn was as busy as ever, Ralph even got up to sing a little, however, he was booed off the stage, and his singing was atrocious.

A few drinks later, with my head thumping due to the mix of the noise and drink, I had to carry the drunk and bubbling Violet to her room, while Ralph who was already out cold was carried up by Sydney, after putting them in bed, I and Sydney headed down for a few more drinks.

“I can’t thank you enough Sydney.” I blurted, the smell of alcohol reeking out my mouth, it could be said that although she had the same amount of drink as us, Sydney was able to stay mostly sober, I used to be able to praise my ability to be a heavy drinker, but compared to her, I felt like a lightweight.

I carried on. “Without your proposal about me joining your party.” I burped. “I would probably be wandering alone right now with no money sleeping on the side of the road, After leaving Claire, Clara, and my sister, I have been feeling extremely lonely, so I can’t thank you enough.” I toasted.

….

..

.

“So, I can’t thank you enough,” James’s said to me, he was completely drunk, however, his words were sincere, I hadn’t realized that my little interjection and proposal had meant so much to him. Without it, then just what would he be doing right now? Freezing to death on an empty road as he had said?

Just how lonely was he? He talked about being alone for an entire month before running into us. I couldn’t imagine the pain he must have felt leaving Claire and Clara, especially his Sister…

After a few more drinks, and quietly listening to James rant about some more things, he was completely out of it, I carried him to his room and tucked him into bed. Before leaving I leaned down and kissed the now-unconscious James on the forehead. “No, thank you,” I said before walking out and closing the door.

My face beet red, I walk towards my room to go to bed…
