Anna was full of questions, but this did not prevent her from committing to memory what the demon taught her.
Sometimes, you didn’t need to be so utilitarian; you could also learn things that were useless. Knowing more wouldn’t hurt anybody.
Originally, the demon wrote 30 words on the paper. Before knowing what the words were, Anna thought that she could remember them quickly. But in reality, it took a lot of time for the demon to explain them, and he passed the paper to Anna afterwards for her to remember it on her own time.
Anna held the paper, mumbling as she read along and memorizing.
When she finally memorized everything, it was already an hour later. During this period, she had no major problems in remembering the pronunciation and meaning, but sometimes she would not understand the methods of killing the demonic creatures, so she would ask again.
Fortunately, the demon still had the reputation of being her teacher, and did not prevaricate her by saying that he was only teaching her to read, not teaching her how to kill demonic beasts. Although he was impatient, he answered all her questions.
After finishing the class, Anna's head was a little dizzy, but at the same time, she was also a little proud. From today onwards, she would be an expert in killing 30 kinds of demonic creatures. Though this was the same as memorizing a thousand numbers of Pi, useless except for showing off.
At noon, Anna went to grab lunch and watched until the demon finished eating. In the afternoon, the demon wrote down thirty other methods to kill demonic beasts to teach her.
So, when she came home from work that day, Anna became the Western fiction version of Wang Yuyan* who knew how to kill 60 kinds of demonic monsters.
[Wang Yuyan is a character from the novel/drama/movie Demi-Gods and Semi-Gods. She is able to identify various types of martial arts simply by observation, even though she does not practise the skills in the manuals she read.]
The demon didn't care for the two pieces of paper that he wrote, so Anna took them away. On the way home, she tore them into small pieces and threw them into the foul-smelling ditch on the side of the road. Seeing that all the fragments were stained black, she left with assurance.
She felt a little ridiculous now.
She had clearly wished that there truly existed a goddess which she could report the demon to, but she was now deliberately helping the demon to cover his tracks. Otherwise, if others discovered the existence of the demon, she was afraid he would flip the table and stop playing.
The whole day today, neither Parrish nor Ulysses came to bother them, probably because they were being considerate of the Holy Son’s health. Anna went back and forth from the kitchen and hadn’t encountered them, which saved her a lot of worry.
Because she was still thinking about little Evan, Anna felt a little upset when she was studying with Dubian. It was not until the end of her literacy and when started to meditate that she calmed down using the power of meditation.
Seeing that Anna cast the illumination spell faster than she did yesterday, Dubian smiled appreciatively. "Anna, you are talented and hardworking. I believe that one day you will become a five-star mage."
Anna knew that a five-star mage was very powerful, but she didn't have an accurate impression about exactly how powerful they were. There was a demon in her life that could possess even four-star mages and priests, so she didn’t know if a five-star mage would pose any threat to him.
She felt a little lost.
However, after personally taking care of the demon, she discovered that the demon seemed to feel uncomfortable because of the body that he possessed. If the person he possessed was killed while he was possessing them, was it possible that she would kill them both?
Of course, this was just one of Anna's whimsical ideas. She had no guts nor ability to kill people. And plus the Holy Son was innocent; how could she be cruel enough to kill him? If one day she became a great mage and the demon was possessing a villain, maybe she could try to kill him.
She hoped the demon would not lose patience before then.
"I will work hard!" Anna nodded seriously, and revealed her wishes. "After becoming a five-star mage, no one can threaten me!"
Dubian smiled and said: "You do not have a pure dark affinity body. As long as you become a one-star mage, you can get a noble title. At that time, you and your family don't have to worry about anything."
Dubian didn't know Anna's plight, and as for the threat that civilians would encounter, they would indeed disappear after becoming nobility.
Of course, there was also a lot of trouble among the nobles, but the lives of the nobles were much more valued than the common people. The death of a civilian wouldn’t make any waves, but the internal strife of the aristocrats would seldom result in death.
Therefore, for ordinary civilians, becoming a one-star mage meant being worry-free for life. But considering the gold coins needed to become a mage, very few people could walk this path.
Anna had the talent and the courage to face difficulties without backing down. Every time she thought of the threats the demon gave her, she would feel a little dispirited before cheering up again.
Once upon a time, she was just a civilian who couldn't find a job, but now, not only did she have the enviable position of a maid in the earl estate, she had also secretly started to become a mage disciple. And all this took only one month.
