RBS Chapter 5.1: Rejecting Confession (5)

Gu Sheng was stunned for quite a while before realizing Yi Zhongshen was referring to how Bo Xiyun addressed him.

Towards Gu Sheng, Bo Xiyun said, “Thank you, senior.”

Towards Yi Zhongshen, he was more polite with, “Thank you, Senior Yi.”

In all honesty, if Yi Zhongshen didn’t mention this, Gu Sheng wouldn’t have noticed the difference in this one word. But now thinking about it, he did address them differently.

“You are asking why he’s more distant when addressing you?”

Gu Sheng considered this while rubbing his arms, before seriously replying. “Maybe you scared him?”

He was speaking from his heart; that expression he had received from Yi Zhongshen earlier still left lingering fear in him.

Not to mention the kid.

But as a good friend, he still tried his best to console Yi Zhongshen although his spine still felt remnants of cold shivers.

“I feel with junior’s character, he would not pick on anyone, so there’s a high probability you scared him.”

But looking at Yi Zhongshen’s still extremely cold expression, his consolation did nothing.

Gu Sheng didn’t feel anything was wrong and continued on, trying to enlighten Yi Zhongshen.

“I’m serious, the kid’s a good kid. Good in studies, good character, and polite.”

As he was speaking, a gentle smile surfaced on his face.

“You saw how easily we hit it off just now.”

Yi Zhongshen, “……”

Unsure whether it was an illusion, Gu Sheng felt that the other party’s expression worsened.

Without waiting for him to continue, Yi Zhonghen didn’t hesitate to change the topic.

“You have spoken to the Bai family?”

“Yes.”

The smile on Gu Sheng’s face gradually faded.

He lowered his eyes and sighed softly.

“It was expected.”

It was an expected disappointment.

“Sixteen years had passed……It was just too long ago.”

There was a momentary silence in the warm lounge before Yi Zhongshen said softly, “There’s still hope.”

“Um.”

Gu Sheng nodded his head and reached up to pinch his high nose bridge.

“We will not give up no matter how long it takes.”

His voice lowered, but it was filled with a confidence that was not to be doubted.
“I will find my little brother.”

Tonight’s banquet had brought too much surprise for the guests, and they were speculating on Gu Sheng’s arrival. Everyone thought he had the same goal as Yi Zhongshen; he was here on behalf of his university to invite Bo Xiyun. But he was actually in Q City for another purpose.

—Because news had reached the Gu family that the Bai family had found their lost son.

Sixteen years ago, the Gu family lost a child too.

But what happened then was too complicated, and it was only years later that the Gu family received news that this child could still be alive. From then, the Gu family spent a lot of time and effort, posting large rewards, contacting police, and sponsoring government authorities and civil societies……any means they had was exhausted, and they practically searched all corners of the country.

But they didn’t have any results.

But even after more than 10 years, the Gu family still didn’t give up on their search. And now, they were extremely familiar with the number of kidnapping rings that had been arrested in each area.

Naturally, the Gu family had paid special attention to the news that the Bai family had found their son.

This resulted in Gu Sheng personally making this trip to Q City tonight to get details.

Gu Sheng let out a breath softly and spoke briskly, “The Bai family found their lost son after more than 10 years, maybe my family will have this good luck too.”

Yi Zhongshen was silent for a while before he asked suddenly, “What happened to the Bai family?”

Gu Sheng replied, “It has to do with Bai Gelei’s ex-wife’s family.”

Yi Zhongshen would rarely ask for more details so Gu Sheng expanded on his narrative.

“Bai Gelei grew up in a rural area and his family was very poor. After getting into a relationship with his junior high classmate, his school fees for high school were paid for by the girlfriend’s family. Later this girlfriend, Liu Ran, became his first wife.”

Gu Sheng grew up in Q City and there had been contact between the Gu family and the Bai family before. He was aware of some of the events in the Bai family.

“After Liu Ran fell pregnant, she caught Bai Gelei in an affair, and they divorced. At that time, Bai Gelei’s business was starting to turn a profit, but the Liu family was very angry with his actions. They broke off all contact with him once the divorce went through.”

These happenings were not a secret, there were so many rumors about Bai Gelei’s infidelity when he was younger. After the divorce, he gave in to his impulses and became a promiscuous player with many girlfriends.

“Three years later, Bai Gelei was involved in a car accident and he nearly died. His temperament underwent a huge change and outsiders believed he had a wake-up call after almost dying. He became a lot more mature and now knew to be kind to the people around him. He then went to look for his ex-wife, wanting to make up for his past mistakes to his ex-wife and child.”

“At that time, Bai Gelei’s ex-wife had already passed away from illness and only the two-year-old child was left. Bai Gelei brought the child home to raise him personally, turned over a new leaf, stopped his philandering, and got married to his girlfriend at the time.”

Gu Sheng added, “His girlfriend at the time is now the current Mrs. Bai, Wu Ying.”

Doing some rough calculations, Bai Gelei indeed didn’t womanize for more than ten years. After that, his reputation took a good turn, his business expanded, and it all looked to be connected—in the eyes of outsiders, Bai Gelei turned over a new leaf.

But the silent and still expressionless Yi Zhongshen obviously didn’t believe it.

Standing not far from the door, he swept an eye towards the outer room, and heard the continuing conversation at the end of the corridor, before coldly saying, “But he does not have any children with Wu Ying.”

Gu Sheng smiled, “As expected of you, you have accurately caught the main point.”

“Indeed, his change in character was not because he had a wake-up call after the accident.”

From Gu Sheng’s arrival into the lounge, he had sent his bodyguards to stand guard at the greenhouse’s door, ensuring that there was no interruption. Thus, he was very direct.

“It’s because he is now impotent.”

No surprise showed on Yi Zhongshen’s face.

“Others do not know, but my family is fully aware,” Gu Sheng said. “At that time, Bai Gelei approached the Gu family, asking us to help look for a specialist for treatment. He even tried all sorts of methods, all sorts of remedies.”

Apparently, they all failed.

“During the time of the divorce, Bai Gelei’s ex-wife’s health suffered and there was a high possibility abortion would result in her losing her life. In the end, the child was born and this child became Bai Gelei’s only descendent. And what a coincidence that it was a boy.

“That’s why Bai Gelei insisted on bringing the child back after the car accident.”

Gu Sheng said, “Bai Gelei never wanted to talk about the past. That’s why I’m here today, firstly to send our congratulations, secondly to find out more.”

It was because of the sensitive nature of this topic that the Gu family opted for Gu Sheng to make this trip personally and not to make contact through phone calls or emails.

When Bai Gelei realized Gu Sheng’s intent after he had made an appearance in the banquet hall, Bai Gelei’s expression was not good.

Regardless of what happened in the past or the current situation now, for Bai Gelei, they were both shameful scandals that he didn’t want to bring up.

“Both of you were here early, Madam Bai and the newly found son were still getting ready upstairs. They came into the banquet hall after the both of you left. I was received by both Bai Gelei and Madam Bai.

“Bai Gelei only let me know the truth after persuasion from Madam Bai.”

Bai Gelei’s mood was more controlled when Wu Ying, Madam Bai, was around.

It could be seen, although Bai Gelei’s character may not have changed, after so many years together, he did have some feelings for her.

“Fifteen years earlier, when Bai Gelei wanted to take the child from the Liu family, the Liu family refused and instead, wanted him to kowtow eighteen times in front of his ex-wife’s memorial tablet. Both sides refused to give in and communication broke down.

“But later, the Liu family encountered difficulties, and it seemed that they could not provide for the child any longer. In the end, Bai Gelei managed to get custody of the child.”

Gu Sheng stopped. His meaning was clear, and he didn’t elaborate on the “difficulties” the Liu family encountered.

“The Liu family had suffered setbacks and never did regain their footing, the older generation had also passed away. Furthermore, the Liu family was not based in Q City, they never kept in contact with Bai Gelei any further.”

Gu Sheng paused before continuing, “But Bai Gelei still kept an eye on the Liu family. When Bai Gelei received news that the Liu family was looking for a specialist to treat a younger generation’s asthma, he immediately felt something was amiss.”

“Because his ex-wife had died after an asthma attack when her asthmatic condition worsened. And asthma has a high possibility of being hereditary.”

Yi Zhongshen’s eyes flashed as he listened silently.

Gu Sheng continued, “Bai Gelei intercepted them when they left the province and brought the child to do a DNA analysis.

“When results were announced, this child with an asthma condition, was his real son, Bai Xiu.

“Bai Gelei discovered that he was lied to—his ex-wife’s family hated him and didn’t wish to hand over the child to him. They found a similarly aged child among the relatives and passed that child to him. DNA analysis fifteen years ago was not as stringent as now. The ex-wife’s family had bribed someone to exchange the samples and presented the fake results.”

Gu Sheng pinched the flesh between his eyebrows. “Thus resulting in this real and fake son drama.”

Yi Zhongshen’s eyes were dark and cold, he suddenly repeated a few words, “Child among the relatives?”

Gu Sheng paused and said tactfully, “Bai Gelei’s ex-wife’s parents and older brother had some savings. That relative received a large sum of money.”

He could see Yi Zhongshen was not happy and Gu Sheng sighed.

In that entire affair, being used to replace the real young master, Bo Xiyun was never at fault.

In fact, in this short fifteen years—

He was abandoned by two different families.

“This poor kid is so good, but his life is too hard.”

Gu Sheng sighed again as he said.

Within his unhappiness, there was a deeper layer of disappointment.

“I also asked further, Xiyun’s parents were definitely relatives of his ex-wife’s Liu family. Because the biological father’s surname was Bo, the Bai family changed his surname to Bo.”

“Although it was wishful thinking,” Gu Sheng smiled sadly. “I was still a little disappointed after discovering he could not be my aunt’s child.”

Yi Zhongshen was silent for a while. He asked only after his friend’s emotions were under control.

“Where are his biological parents now?”

“They have passed away.” Gu Sheng said softly, “The current predicament of the Liu family is not good and they are overwhelmed.”

Bai Gelei always had a vengeful streak.

Especially when he was lied to in this way.

Thus now, Bo Xiyun was still alone by himself.

Yi Zhongshen looked up, he could see the corridor outside through the glass window. At the end of the corridor stood a slender figure talking on the phone. The figure looked shadowy through the glass, lacking realism, but he could still see that slender but straight back.

“Another half a year more.” Yi Zhongshen said calmly, “Nothing can affect him anymore once he leaves the Bai family.”

A bright and great future would be awaiting him.
