The rest of the goblins emerged from the darkness and paused as the light from the spell above seared their skin. The light’s distance wasn’t close enough to cause real damage, but just enough to slow them down. After a moment, they continued their slow ascent, giving me just enough of an opening to make my move.

I held the spell for just over three seconds before my MP hit rock bottom and caused the spell to choke out, and the flames dissipated, allowing me to see the damage I had caused. The creatures, set on fire, stopped the ones behind as the light from the flames irritated their skin. Two of the creatures burned to death, while the closest to me exploded into a pile of disgusting black goo. The stench of burning flesh filled the caverns enough for me to cover my nostrils with the clean side of my cloak. The other creatures stumbled over the flames as the larger thuds of the boss came closer and growled at them aggressively to move out of its way. I’m certain that I was the reason it was so ticked off, and it surely wouldn’t stop until I was either part of its puppet collection or dead in the ground.

I unsheathed my sword and readied myself to start swinging while the others began ascending the ladder. A long black tentacle swung up from behind the creatures and punched me right in the chest. I couldn’t even react as the breastplate rang like a bell smashed by a hammer.
[Ali’Creed Level 4: HP: 86/146, SP: 97/146, MP: 92/146]
I went flying backward, hitting the rocky wall, and dropping my sword in the process. I coughed drops of blood all over the ground, some liberally sprinkling my armour. I looked down at the breastplate, where the fading light from the spell allowed me to see a small dent in the metal. Mere seconds later, it popped back out and looked as though nothing had occurred. I mentally thanked the elves for their self-repair enchantment but wished they had added something like that for the wearer. My body hurt like hell as I pushed myself back on my feet. I swiftly grabbed the sword while observing the hole. Six giant black tendrils held the area around the edges and pulled the slimy hunk of black goo out of the hole. It ended up pushing some of the smaller ones up in the process. That’s how bloody big the damn thing was.
I could feel its demented influence trying to pry its way into my mind once more. “Fuck You!” I shouted before I quickly grabbed the sword and made a swift limp back to the previous chamber. I was not giving it another chance to petrify me again; I’d rather fight the bastard to my death than let it in. My chest ached in pain from where the blow landed. I knew this battle was far from over, and I would more than likely end up dead facing it down here, where its power was magnified by the natural darkness surrounding it. My plan was to lure it out of the ruins and out in the open where I was hoping… praying, there would be enough light left in the sky to fend it off.
I quickly selected one HP and MP potion each before consuming them and throwing the empty bottles away, hearing them smash to pieces behind me. I could have just put them back in the inventory but running for my life seemed more important right now.

I arrived in the next chamber with the ground shaking more vigorously as this mind fucker crept closer with every thud. The spider-like legs seemed to do a great job of allowing it to keep up with me. I was hoping to use the disadvantage of its large frame to my advantage, but that was no use as it had managed to somehow get through the tight parts of the caverns even though some points had been hard enough for me to get through. Then I remembered how its face morphed while it had me in its grasp, and it clicked. Maybe its body could morph the same way as it was made from the same goo.
I didn’t even consider looking back and just kept on limping toward the goal of getting out of this damn place. I finally arrived at the first chamber and began my ascent up the long stairs out of here. I had to use my arms to pull myself up the last dozen as exhaustion took hold of me. “For fucks sake!” I shouted in annoyance as I noticed dark clouds above obscuring the sun. Small droplets of rain hit my face as I pierced the entrance. Why the fuck did it have to start raining now of all times?
Forget the clouds. I was even more fucked now as ahead, a group of wolves stared at me with a menacing gaze as though finding their next meal. They began to howl when some others emerged from the bushes and joined them. The massive one I’d seen earlier was also with them and hadn’t gotten any smaller.
Before I could even think of my next move, a tentacle wrapped around my leg like a cobra and squeezed hard before tugging me down. I fell face first upon the ground, narrowly missing a rock that would have surely sent stars flying around my head. This day just kept on getting better and better. Fuck! I pushed myself up and around so I was facing upward and did a sit-up so I could get a better view of my target. I used my other leg to push against a large stone to slow the creature's pull.

I redirected what remained of the short two-second blast to redirect the flames to the tentacle that had grabbed my leg. A loud growl erupted from the hole as both spells combined did what seemed like a fairly good amount of damage. The creature’s grip released me before I hopped on my feet and limped a few meters back toward the wolves. They just looked at me, very confused, and I doubted they had seen anything like that creature before.
The larger wolf leaped towards me, causing me to take a few steps back. I thought it was going to attack me, but instead, it just stood there gazing down into the dark hole where my light spell was currently burning the big monster. The wolves began to growl at me when suddenly, the larger one snapped at them and issued a command. They growled and bowed their heads.
“There’s a big fucking monster in there that could kill us all,” I explained, hoping the wolf would understand. To my amazement, it looked at me and nodded. It must have sensed the demented energy from within, and I’m certain that fucking monster was trying to pierce the wolf’s mind right about now. The wolf growled at the entrance as all six tentacles emerged, and they gripped the surrounding rock before pulling the creature out.
[Unknown Creature Level ??: HP: ????/????]
“What do you say about teaming up?” I asked.
The wolf locked its gaze with me as it no doubt scanned my intent. I wasn’t really looking for a fight with this thing, and it seemed able to understand what I was saying, so fighting it was off the table for now as we had bigger fish to fry. It took a deep breath before the pattern on its chest began to glow a bright blue, and sparks of electricity began to materialize from its mouth. A shock wave of energy emerged before being hurled toward the giant monster. It landed right on the creature's chest before causing severe shock, similar to how a taser gun would immobilize a person. It turned to me again and growled as if to say that’s what would happen to me if I tried anything funny.
“Alright… chill, dude. I’m not going to fuck around with you. We don’t have much time to take this bastard… monster out.”
The wolf sighed and shook its head. Maybe bastard wasn’t the best word choice when talking to a wolf but nonetheless something new appeared on my HUD.
[Elemental Dire wolf of Sparks Level 17 would like to join your party: <Y>/N]
I swiftly pressed the yes command.
Would you like to give your new companion a name? <Y>/N
The other creature was still stunned, so I guess, why not? How about... Sparky? The wolf looked at me with a funny frown before turning its attention back to the monster. Sparky it is, then.

With Sparky now in my party, I also turned to face the monster, who was just about free of the effects of the electrocution. Not sure what happened, but as soon as Sparky entered the party, the monster's stats were now visible to me. It was as if the information was being shared between us in real-time, courtesy of the system.
[Unknown Creature Level 24: HP: 1174/1400]
What remained of the smaller creatures emerged from behind the monster. Sparky growled at his wolves to take care of them; they obeyed his command without hesitation and got to work.
The big monster turned its attention to both of us and began to swing its tentacles in a strange fashion.
Sparky charged another bolt of lightning and hurled it forward, shocking the monster once more. This gave me the opportunity to get a few swipes of the sword in on the tentacle, which had made its way toward me but stopped due to the stunning effect.

This just appeared to piss the creature off even more, and once it broke free from the effect, it took a deep breath and launched a giant torrent of green liquid toward us. I ran back and fell on my ass, avoiding the very acidic-looking liquid while Sparky just hopped away on all fours.
Then came another tentacle attack, Sparky managed to fend himself off by digging his teeth into its flesh, something I wouldn’t be emulating. Sparky quickly puked the contents of his previous meal before using a few sparks to wash his mouth clean of that disgusting goo.
Sorry Sparky, but you made me mentally laugh at that one. Distracted, I didn’t see another tentacle hurl itself toward me and took a not-too-gentle blow to the leg. The same leg it had grabbed earlier. A sharp pain erupted in my leg, and I began to scream like a little girl.
Sparky turned to face me and let off a little chuckle. Damn it, Sparky! You're just getting back at me for laughing at your little puking incident, aren't you?
I squealed in pain before swinging my sword at the tentacle, managing to land a few blows before it retracted back to its filthy owner.

Sparky used my pain as his distraction to get close to the creature and used some kind of an electric claw swipe across its chest before hopping back. He even gave me a little nod followed by a grin to show me his dominance in the fight.
I shook my head and frowned. What a fucking show-boater!
[Unknown Creature Level 24: HP: 938/1400]
Sparky had some powerful attacks, clearly noticeable on the creature's HP bar, but not enough to actually defeat it. Meanwhile, the other wolves had managed to kill a couple of the smaller creatures and now ganged up on the two that remained. In the distance, two more wolves emerged from the bushes. The larger one looked like the prettiest wolf I had ever seen, adorned with thick fluffy white fur. It looked like a female one so that’s what I presumed her to be. Sorry for assuming your gender... wolf. Right next to her appeared a smaller version of Sparky, blue pattern included. It didn’t take a genius to know that was Sparky's kid.
“Go on there, Sparky!” I chuckled before Sparky turned and growled at the pair. I think he wanted them to stay at a distance while the fight was ongoing, but it seemed his kid wanted a piece of the action and ran forward toward one of the Afflicted Goblins and did what appeared to be a weaker version of Sparky's claw attack.
Sparky frowned, but before he could react, the big monster had taken advantage of his distraction as a tentacle was hurled towards him. The blow landed on his side and caused him to take a few steps to the side. I could have sworn I heard a few bones crack. He was stunned and gathering himself when I noticed the monster gearing up for another attack, but before it could land another hit, I managed to get up and limp forward.

Sparky nodded and got back up. The rain had begun to get heavier and had saturated the entire ground. I quickly gulped down a level 0 MP potion while I still had the chance but ended up spilling some. Damn it!

“Sparky, this fucker’s tough, so we need to attack him together. Use your lightning attack on him after I cast my light spell, then I’ll barrage him with what remains of my magic with fire.” I explained. Sparky agreed with a small nod and prepared himself by charging the attack.

Sparky launched a powerful bolt of lightning. The rain had made his attack even more powerful, acting like a supercharger of sorts as sparks flew in every direction and made the area smell like a burnt circuit board. The bolt hit the creature directly in the face.

Elemental Magic is Now Level 2
In total, I blasted the creature with six seconds of flame with each hand. I could tell by the flames turning from an orange colour to a deep light blue. They must have reached temperatures far greater than that of a blow torch. A massive chunk of black goo had melted away from the creature's chest, biting away at a large portion of its HP. From what I could tell when the spell finished there was a small amount of reserve MP still within my body that allowed me to extent the spells time by a second. Was this even safe to be doing?
[Unknown Creature Level 24: HP: 456/1400]
A loud shriek caused me to cover my ears, shortly followed by a tentacle wrapping itself around my throat and lifting me at least a couple of meters off the ground. It squeezed harder than a vice as my health began to drop along with my oxygen supply.
Sparky moved closer and used his swipe attack once more, slicing it right on the tentacle that had grabbed me. I dropped to the ground, twisting my ankle in the process before gasping a lungful of air. I crawled back to a safe distance and snapped my ankle back in place.
[Unknown Creature Level 24: HP: 326/1400]
Before Sparky could hop back to safety, the creature had managed to impale his leg by morphing one of its tentacles into a sharp spear. Sparky naturally began to bleed as the hole in his leg gushed a torrent of blood. By now, the other wolves had managed to slay the remaining goblins, made their way to the larger creature, and began barraging it with a plethora of attacks to wear it down. They didn’t exactly do much damage except piss the larger creature off even more.

The monster lashed out in a flurry of blows with its tentacles which had all now transformed into spears. At least 5 Wolves had been impaled and killed in the process before Sparky and I re-joined the fight. Sparky howled at his pack to leave the area before hurling another powerful bolt of lightning at the monster.
[Unknown Creature Level 24: HP: 146/1400]
I was just about to begin casting when what remained of the black goo morphed into a dark liquid sphere. Then all of a sudden, spikes began to form on its surface. I knew exactly where this was heading. “Watch out, Sparky, it’s going to shoot spikes out... like, everywhere!”
Sparky howled at his kid and female companion to get back, which they did, but before he could get out of the way himself– the sphere exploded. A couple of spikes impaled Sparky in the side of his torso, causing him to whimper as his HP raced to rock bottom. I managed to avoid them as I took cover behind some rubble just in the nick of time.

“Damn it!” I rushed towards Sparky as fast as I could and took out a health potion before forcing it down his mouth. Sparky's HP continued to drop before it stopped at around 24 and then began to rise. Phew! That was a close one.
[Unknown Creature Level 24: HP: 64/1400]
The creature's stat box appeared once more as the black goo rushed towards the centre of where the creature stood moments before. I began to cast the fire spell once more with both hands and aimed it at what remained of the creature before letting it loose.
You Cast Stream of Fire: +20 XP
With each hand, I held the spell for two seconds before the monster exploded into a pile of burned goo that now covered the entire area. “Finally!” I sighed with relief. I turned to face Sparky, who was still on the ground. The she-wolf and the kid approached Sparky. I guess it would take a lot more time to recover from that entire mess.
Some of the other wolves turned their attention to the kid and his mother before growling at them. They probably took Sparky's moment of weakness to assert control over the pack like vultures. Some loyal ones stood as a bulwark between them and Sparky’s family.
I unsheathed my sword and moved forward to defend my new friend. After all we went through killing that monster… wait a second… there was no kill notification. That fucker’s still alive... what a sneaky bastard.
I turned around only to notice that a blob of black goo had escaped into the section of the forest covered in cobwebs. “For fucks sake!” I grunted before turning my attention to the wolves that had turned on Sparky. “You fucking little runts are going to die for this!”
