More than seventy-five years ago, the Adumbrae manifested in our world, possessing humans and turning them into monsters of destruction, abruptly ending the Second World War. Just as mysteriously, Corebrings came to humanity's aid. With powers granted by the Mother Core, these superhumans continued to protect the world to this day.
Erind Hartwell, a first-year law student, didn't care about any of that, or anything else which didn't directly affect her. Incapable of empathy, guilt, or remorse, she knew she was different from others. And society frowned on different—especially her kind of being different. Which was why she wore the face of a normal person. "I wouldn’t bother the world as long as it didn't bother me," the most of important of her self-imposed Rules.
Unfortunately, the world bothered Erind's normal life.
At the brink of death, an entity came offering powers to save her.
Left with no other choice, she accepted it.
