[The year 2004] [Location: Drogos Fortress]

"Clear the way. These two criminals are gonna get their due today. Hahaha!!! The Boss will personally punish them for their crimes," A burly muscular man with a bushy mustache was walking through the street bazaar, followed by ten guards guarding the prisoners.

One of the prisoners seemed to be an old man around his 60s, while the other one was barely 16 years old. They were chained in iron shackles, and their mouths were taped to prevent them from speaking.

The people on the road scurried away, clearing the way. They started to spit on the prisoners and even threw stones at them while cursing. There was too much commotion on the street.

[Inside Boss's house]

"Damn it!!! Who the hell is screaming? Did that old coot finally die? Aaahhh!!!" Ethan woke up and sat on his bed, stretching his arms while yawning. Last night was a rough night for him. His ankle was twisted in the underground fighting arena, but he won the match and scored a big.

"Hummm..."

Ethan felt a jolt after seeing his surroundings. He remembered sleeping in his room. Although he drank a little after the match to relieve his pain, he was certain that he never left his room with a swollen leg. But now he woke up in a weird place, on someone else's bed.

"This is bad... What the heck are those things?"

Ethan felt a shiver as his eyes fell on the wall at the end of his bed. There was a humongous skull of a weird shape hanging there. It looked like one of those monsters he had seen in a video game. Besides the monster's skull, there was a rack of metal weapons, and all those weapons were covered in dried blood.

Apart from that giant monster's skull, there were also various skulls, teeth, claws, and hides of various unknown animals all over the room. It seemed as if someone collected them as a trophy after a successful hunt.

The room was made of stones, and the roof was made of wood. There was no concrete on the floor, just some wooden planks laid over it. Rough edges of stone and cement were all over the wall, and there was no paint on them. In short, it seemed like a hunter's room from ancient times.

Ethan's eyes went toward the ceiling after he heard a noise, "Freaking hell!!!" A couple of human skulls were hanging over his bed. And they were clashing with each other lightly, "Heekkk!!! Are those human skulls?" His heart was beating so fast that it seemed to leap out of his chest.

"Don't tell me someone kidnapped me last night. But I am still alive, and there are no restraints," Ethan thought while scanning the room closely. He jumped down from the bed, "What!!!??" He got shocked after seeing his body. Well, it wasn't his actual body but someone else's body.

Ethan was standing on the floor, naked, in someone else's body. Someone whose body was filled with battle scars, "Mirror, mirror, mirror..." He ran over from table to table and finally found a small hand mirror, "Freaking hell!!! What in the freaking hell happened to me? Am I dead? Is this heaven?"

Ethan threw the mirror on the table after seeing his handsome face with a little smirk, "Not bad. Not bad at all. At least I got a handsome face." Then he began to examine his muscular and scar-filled body, "All these scars... Who the heck is the owner of this body?" He wondered.

"Arrgggg!!! What are you doing, Ethan? Now is not the time to be impressed. Is this one of those cliche rebirth things?"

"Then do I have some super special power? What kind of world am I in? Is it a magic world? Yes, if it's magic, it would be a hell of fun. Kekekeke. Or maybe one of those martial arts worlds of murim... Whahahah!!! Whatever it is, as long as it's not some zombie shit, it's gonna be fun..."

Ethan was laughing in excitement with a sinister expression. He was glad that he got a chance to experience such a situation and escape his boring life.

Ethan's eyes went toward the window as the noise of commotion drew near his room. He ran toward the glass window, "Oh my God!!!"

The vision outside the window took away Ethan's breath along with all his hopes and expectations of reincarnating in magic or murim world, "Argggg!!!" A splitting headache grasped his mind. He saw flashes of the memories of the owner of his new body, and it wasn't fun.

It took a few minutes to fully process the memories. Ethan's headache wore off, but he curled up on the floor, grabbing his head and shaking in fear, "A dystopian world!!! Why did I have to be reborn in a freaking nuclear-ravaged world? Why? Why? Why?"

The world Ethan woke up in was not the earth he knew. On this earth, a nuclear accident occurred in the year 1990. It nearly drove the world to extinction. Around 40% of the world's population died that day, and most of the land became Ground-0 because of the nuclear wastes where no one can survive.

After that incident, organic life on earth began to mutate. Animals and plants mutated and evolved into dangerous monsters. As for humanity, a lucky few gained super abilities. They established small bases and fortresses all over the world.

At first, their objective was to protect humanity, but soon a never-ending battle broke out among the people over resources and clear water, which is hard to come by in a ravaged world filled with mutated monsters. The continuous conflicts gave rise to bandits and cutthroats. They kill and steal resources from weak bases.

"I am one of those ruthless fortress leaders... If they learn that I am not their Boss, they are going to lynch me or worse," Ethan's eyes went toward the human skulls hanging on the ceiling over the bed, "What are you looking at? I got no plan to join you all..." He touched this neck with a fearful expression, imagining his severed head hanging on the ceiling among those skulls.

[Knock] [Knock] "Heekk!!!" The sudden knock on the door nearly made Ethan pass away, "Those lunatics... My heart... Phew!!! Get yourself together. Time to put on those acting lessons from high school to good use..." He took a deep breath and grabbed a pant and a shirt that was lying on the floor.

"Let's get started..."

Ethan opened the door.
